MY 10 year old grandson and I arrived at the airport to pickup an automatic car booked weeks earlier through Jet2 and they told me they had none and could only offer a manual. For me automatic car is essential when driving on the opposite side of the road to UK in a busy and unfamiliar city. So I declined their offer and managed to extract a fully stamped and signed letter from them declaring "Fleet Fail"
Despite the authoritive letter Autovia months to reluctantly give a full refund.
Luckily I got an automatic car from a nearby company (Budget) but at 3 times the original price!
So I managed to save the holiday from being ruined by throwing money at the problem!

I strongly advise against renting from Autovia, Ecovia or Furgovia. Based on our experience, I would not recommend these companies to anyone.
We originally booked two cars through Booking.com for €313 each. We also purchased the most comprehensive insurance available through Booking.com because we wanted to avoid any problems.
However, when we arrived, we were told that the insurance purchased through Booking.com was not accepted directly by the rental company. We were then offered additional insurance from them for €544 per car.
We decided to take it because we did not want to risk being charged for damage that was already present on the vehicles. In the end, each car cost us around €857 instead of the original €313. Since we had two cars, we ended up paying approximately €1,714 in total.
Unfortunately, our concerns about the vehicle inspection turned out to be justified. When returning one of the cars, the employee pointed out scratches that were already present when we received the vehicle. Fortunately, I had taken a complete video of the car before driving it, which clearly showed that the damage was already there.
We also witnessed another customer who had only taken the insurance through Booking.com. They were extremely upset because they were being charged for damage they believed was already present on their vehicle and were then left to deal with their Booking.com insurance themselves.
The staff's attitude also made the experience much worse. The employees at the desk were extremely unpleasant and, according to my Italian-speaking friend, were insulting us during the conversation.
Our overall impression was that customers are put in a situation where they feel pressured to purchase additional insurance and potentially pay much more than the original rental price.
I genuinely do not recommend this company. If you are considering renting from Autovia, Ecovia or Furgovia, I would personally choose another rental company. Take detailed photos and videos of the entire vehicle before driving away, and carefully check exactly what your insurance covers.
For us, what initially looked like a €313 rental ended up costing approximately €857 per car. With two cars, that was almost €1,700.

Car rental Napoli Airport
I would like to make a formal complaint regarding both the service provided by your staff and the way the payment and insurance requirements were handled.
First, I was very disappointed with the attitude and level of service at the rental desk. Your staff were not willing to properly discuss the situation or provide reasonable assistance. We also had to wait unnecessarily long, while the staff appeared to be more interested in talking to representatives from neighbouring rental companies than assisting us and the other customers waiting at the desk.
More importantly, I was told that I had to purchase your most expensive insurance package because I was using a debit card rather than a credit card.
I find this unacceptable and would like a clear explanation for this requirement. I travel frequently for business and have rented vehicles from many other rental companies using the same debit card, without ever encountering this issue.
I therefore do not consider the additional insurance charge to be reasonable, particularly given the circumstances under which it was imposed.
I am requesting a clear explanation of this charge and a refund of the €672 charged to my card.
Please also provide me with a detailed breakdown of the €672 charge and explain the specific terms and conditions that required me to purchase the additional insurance.
I expect this matter to be reviewed properly and would appreciate your written response as soon as possible.
Kind regards,
Rasmus

My experience with Autovia was awesome. The car was clean, the staff helpful and the pick-up and drop-off time was short.

We booked a car at Autovia Milano Centrale. The required deposit is enormous. In my case higher than my credit card limit. I couldn’t raise that limit on the spot, since it was a Sunday and my bank was closed.
We offered every solution we could think of: another driver’s credit card, putting the booking in a different name, paying the deposit in cash, collecting the car the next working day, rebooking for later. Every single option was refused. The only thing Autovia proposed was an excess-reduction package costing twice a full week’s rental.
That’s when it became clear they weren’t looking for a solution at all. Getting you to cancel is the point. They even told us we couldn’t pick up the car the next working day, as that would be counted as a no-show. On a car we had already booked and paid for!
I’ve rented cars in many countries and for many years. I’ve never had this experience before.
Autovia is an awful company. Don’t book with them, and don’t put much faith in the positive reviews you see here.

I do not believe this company operates in good faith. Everyone in front of me in the queue was refused access to the car they’d booked unless they bought hundreds of euros of insurance. Expect to pay at least as much again for the service you believe you have booked or, even better, don’t use this company.

Very friendly and helpful personnel.
Flexibel and to the pont.
Only thing is the communication via email is often in Italian. Would be better to check nationality and communicate in English

AVOID AUTOVIA>
The company states mastercard, visa are cards they accept for deposit and placing a block amount if not buying their insurance.
Arrived Milan Linate airport.
But when you arrive your mastercard may not be acceptable. Any reward mastercard they say is unacceptable. Misleading terms and conditions.
this took place with 4 other customers who were there with prebooked rental bookings.
So you lose your deposit as a no show if you dont book. If you buy their super cover insurance then your card is now acceptable.
I hired cars for 40 years. Never had a problem before with card. Just a scam to make you pay 4 times the bait price that you booked. Took my card to 4 other on airport rental companys. No problem with my mastercard. AVOID. AVOID.

WARNING - THEY TRY TO SCAM YOU CLAIMING FALSE DAMAGE FOR PREEXISTING DAMAGES. I have made a google review too, where pictures of the alleged damage and communication with the company can be seen.
We are from Copenhagen Denmark and visited Piemonte Region i aug/sep 2026. We rented a car with Ecovia/Autovia through Discovercars.com. Everything seemed to work fine and we had no issues with the car. We were happy with the rental until return. When we returned the car at 18:30, unfortunately no one was there to take it in even though it stated they close at 19:00. So we had to drop the keys in the key box and trust they did a proper return inspection the following day without us being present. Unfortunately this is where it all went down wrong. Not only did they try to charge us for existing damage, but they also failed to list damage we had pointed out on pick up of the car - who knows if they will try to make subsequent customers responsible for this damage? I have uploaded pictures of the alleged new damage compared to video footage of the car on pick up. Fortunately I made a comprehensive video on pick up, otherwise I would be stuck with a bill for some scratches on one of the wheel rims. I have contacted customer care many days ago, but they still haven't replied me and they have tried charging me money on my credit card. I have spent hours and hours having to go through video, writing mails to customer care, contacting my credit card company to make them hold the amount they are trying to withdraw and uploading all sorts of evidence. If you are looking for a good car rental company, then stay completely away from this one. They try to scam you and you will regret it

Picked up at Venice airport - staff were lovely and process fairly seamless. Great vehicle. Only issue was dropping back off at a busy time and limited spaces to leave the car

Happy with the car and service. One of the members of staff at the desk at Treviso airport spoke English, explained everything and sorted everything out quickly and in a friendly manner. Will be going to Autovia first next time 👍🏻
