I recently decided to move my house insurance to Aviva.
Just 10 days later, I was told that the engagement ring included in my policy would need an updated valuation, as my existing one for €8000 is from 2017. I’ve never had this requirement with 123.ie or AXA.
Getting a new valuation means arranging an appointment in Dublin and paying around €200, which is both inconvenient and an unexpected extra cost.
I called two days ago to express my dissatisfaction and was promised a call back — which never happened. Instead, today I received an email (from a “no reply” address) warning that my cooling-off period is about to expire. What’s the point in sending an email I can’t even respond to?
At this stage, I’ll be moving back to 123.ie, even if it costs more — at least the service is better.
To add to the frustration, one of the reasons I switched to Aviva was the promise of a discount for existing customers. However, I was then told that my 30-year life insurance policy (which I pay €109 per month for) doesn’t qualify.
Honestly, you couldn’t make it up — this has been one of the worst experiences I’ve had with an insurer.
