If considering buying a Balfour Beatty property

If considering buying a BB property, ask yourself if you have the time and energy to deal with a 'snag' list of over 400 items that will take years to fix. We're snagging previously fixed snags. Ask if you have the resources to pay for heating a house that has daylight showing through the external doors and windows. Ask yourself if you're healthy enough to have rockwool floating about the kitchen because it wasn't finished. Ask yourself if you are prepared to talk to a brick wall that would be more responsive than any BB staff. If the answer to these questions is 'no', choose another builder

Avoid

Having read the majority of these reviews I realise that our experience is not unusual as we had been led to believe - rather it appears to be the norm.

We had major issues with the build before we moved in, in April 2021. If we had known what we would face once we moved in, we would have pulled out of the purchase.

On Day 1 it was apparent that there were serious issues with the drains. I was made to feel as if I was being unreasonable and that everything was fine and I was being too picky.

After repeated occasions where plumbers etc had to be called out as waste was not draining away from the property it was discovered that 3 out of 4 drains had collapsed under the house.

The plumbing contractors are beyond incompetent. Issues have included taps connected incorrectly, loos not working/ flushing properly, sinks not fitted correctly, leaks in pipes and in trying to fix initial problems, more issues created resulting in a huge leak in shower room which damaged walls, ceilings, carpeting etc. 6 months on this is still not fixed.

In the recent heavy rain we have further water damage suggesting that the brickwork is substandard as well.

In trying to sort the shower room - the emergency plumber had to break into the walls to create a hole so he could have access to the problem. We then discovered empty drinks cans had been left behind the walls - just appalling!

I have lost count the number of times we have had to email or call with a number of messages being outright ignored. Promises made and broken on a regular basis.

Given what we were going through the Director of Construction paid a visit and promised emphatically that our awful experience to date was not the level of service we should expect to receive and matters would be sorted quickly. That was in May and things are still outstanding.

I also emailed the Managing Director of Housing. Initially she responded - but only the once. One of her assistants was in touch again promising that things would be sorted, but sadly all empty promises.

Their tag line is that they are large enough to deliver and small enough to care. I stressed that neither of these applied to our experiences to date and beyond a promise that things would be sorted - nothing has changed.

I echo others comments and would say avoid, avoid, avoid this builder.

Avoid, avoid avoid shocking build quality and worse support

We purchased a home with Balfour in June this year. It started off fantastic, the house was lovely and the staff were extremely helpful.

The on site team were really good and we agreed a 7 day snag list.

Fast forward 4 months and most the items on the snag list are still outstanding and they are not small issues:

- En-suite bathroom flooded on day 1 which caused damage to kitchen ceiling. 4 months on and we are still without the shower and ceiling with damp plasterboard

- No heating downstairs at all as radiators plumbed incorrectly

- Taps fitted the wrong way round

There are lots more. They do not answer the phone or return calls. When they finally get in touch they make promises but never see it through.

You have been warned, the houses look nice but the aftercare is shocking so would honestly avoid.

Unprofessional staff

Unprofessional staff, a member of my team went into greggs for lunch and member of balfour staff started shouting, swearing and wanted him to go out side so he could attack him, this is so unprofessional for a company like this. And if balfour do read this and care which I doubt by reading other reviews they where working at Bicton Heath in Shrewsbury

Problems with Balfour Beatty new builds

We purchased a new home in 2018 from Balfour Beatty at Pentland View, Gorebridge. A number of serious problems have been found on all of the houses built at the same time as ours. We are currently waiting for a list of works required. We will need to leave the house for probably around 8 weeks for the work to be done. Some of the houses were worked on last year when lockdown was eased and the owners had to vacate them. The company hired did not fix many of the problems and the owners will have to vacate the houses again. In some cases they will have had to leave three times. In additions the company hired workers who were swearing and shouting a lot, not pleasant for young families on the estate. Balfour Beatty are planning to build further houses on the estate hence we will probably be facing several more years living on a building site. Neighbor informed me that they will have to build a retaining wall behind our houses which will mean removing fences and most probably part of our gardens so need not have bothered trying to make it look nice.
I would certainly not recommend buying a new home from Balfour Beatty. To top it all off I would like to sell the house and cannot see anyone wanting to buy it with all the problems.

Incompetence that borders on cruelty

This company were contracted to build our local health centre facilities. It cost many millions of pounds but after only a few years of operation, the entire complex needed a major overhaul due to the terrible quality of the build. Not least of which was the large swimming pool with diving facilities- a swimming pool that had major leak problems. Quite literally the one thing you expect from a pool is that it holds water. But not a Balfour Beatty pool!
My main complaint is that the diving facilities have been ‘being fixed’ for well over a year now and they keep changing the time frame of when they will reopen. This diving facility is the only one in the entire South West. My daughter is a diver and it is her joy and passion; a passion this company have stolen from her with their shoddy workmanship and broken promises. I find their attitude to their work to be morally questionable at best.

This is the most unethical company you…

This is the most unethical company you can ever have working in your local community. Another morning being woken up at 5am in rhyl without a complete disregard to the residents of rhyl. Refuse to have this company working in your area. Maximum disturbance and poor quality work. Partition against any work being completed by this company in your area otherwise you will be sorry. They will also do damage to your property and refuse to take liability. The royal Alexander hospital is leaking all over the place since they started work opposite and many offices can not not be used. Staff and residents have experience frightening shaking and vibrations. Pictures have fallen off walls and cracks have appeared. Denbighshire councel is also courrpud because they apparently allow them to do the work and offer to pay for surveys with a company they use and they are not impartial. Paul the community officer is a joke. He phones with his biased agenda days after the complaint calls to say sorry we woke you up at 5am but we have a permit to terrorise the community at 5am from Denbighshire Council like it is fine. People are losing sleep and it is impacting on their health. The liaising is a joke and so is this company. If you see planning notices with this company carrying out work object otherwise you will be sorry. All throughout the pandemic the practices are bad on this site and has probably been a source of transmission for covid 19. Avoid anything to do with this company. Read the comments. It is a disgusting company. Why do Council use tax payers money to pay companies like this.

I wanted to try this company and I thought I should first read the reviews and comments from people who have tried it already. Wow wow not good at all. It seems the company couldn't care less for its customers. Thank God for the reviews, I can't trust this company with these kinds of comments. Thanks so much people for your remarks!

Poor,poor, poor !

Recent gas mains repairs in our area..
Poor communication: failed to communicate when our gas was being reconnected.Left us and more importantly a frail older couple with health issues, without gas for 3 days,no heating,no hot water.
Dishonest: lied about when the power was going to be reconnected on numerous occasions.
Unethical : promised a goodwill gesture of £80 to those whom they had let down. That of course never happened.
Poor, unethical, shoddy !

Extremely poor organisation

Extremely bad experience during Gas mail line repair work. The gas has been off for 3 days in cold weather with no prior warning. The 24 hour customer service response line do not respond before 11 am and after 5 pm and it takes hours before they respond. The Customer service rep then informs that there is a lack of staff both for manning the helpline and field staff for putting the gas on. Repeated requests to talk to someone senior but despite promising a call back several times there is no call back or information. The staff just keeps passing responsibility to others and there is no will to resolve the issues . Vulnerable people are left in cold conditions and being told just to put up with it and not given even the expected time of resolution .

We could be the next Grenfell

We have been waiting for a month for Balfour Beatty to respond to us regarding our unsafe building. Other than saying they will pass our concerns onto the relevant party, we have heard nothing.

Our building lacks fire stopping both internally and externally and leaseholders are having to foot the bill for this whilst Balfour Beatty bury their heads.

Advice to anyone buying an apartment designed and built by Balfour Beatty, check that they installed fire breaks and used correct materials. Ask your surveyor to look in dry risers etc to check the fire stopping before you part with any money.

Very poor service during gas main replacement

During gas main replacement work I was left with no supply on 2 occasions, once overnight and all last weekend from early Friday 18 Sept. to lunchtime 21 September. Although the problem was identified there was no attempt to rectify the issue till 2 hours before they were due to finish the job when they ever realised they would have to sort it out. Totally useless

Abhorent

Company with customer service and operators that do not have a clue about humanity.
They put you on hold and forget about you.
They cut of my gas service and do not want to reconnect the service.
I was told that a reasonable person will contact me to give me an answer. No chance!
Very insane company.

I spoke to several people for an update.
They are simply ridiculous.
They have no systems in place to handle the job that they are doing.
They are digging the road with no plan.
