Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 73 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers found the service to be despicable and expressed that they would be better off paying out of pocket for medical expenses. They frequently encountered issues with customer service, describing representatives as rude, incompetent, and unhelpful, often experiencing disconnections and a lack of follow-up calls. Reviewers also reported significant problems with claims, including denials for medically necessary procedures, cancer treatments, and even annual physicals for children, despite paying high premiums. The pricing was a major concern, with many noting that costs for prescriptions, doctor visits, and other services increased significantly, often exceeding what they would pay without insurance. Conversely, a small portion of people felt that some staff members provided exceptional customer service, being helpful, friendly, and professional in answering questions.

They were told via email in October…

They were told via email in October that I did not want to renew my insurance. January the 1st they took $220 out of my bank account and then delete me out of the system. They took my money even though I told them not to and then delete me so I can't use the insurance. I have filed a complaint. When I talked to them they refused to take any responsibility or be of any help. These company is trash and shouldn't be allowed to handle people's health insurance.

To even open the app you have to wait…

To even open the app you have to wait anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. This is completely unacceptable for a business of their size. It almost feels as if they want to cause the customer to give up and try again later. Which later could result in a late fee. Completely ridiculous.

They might start with giving a damn…

They might start with giving a damn about the customer. I needed proof of coverage, for my other (auto) insurance company. I have had to redo my email twice, gotten error messages, and switched between CS & tech twice now, and been on hold for over 4oins, after being disconnected when they wanted a photo sent to them telling them what error I had gotten. To them it seems like this is and endless joke cycle until someone just quits. Final resolution... have it mailed to me. I am sure that will work out fine. Imagine if it took me that long to pay them

If I could I would leave zero stars

If I could I would leave zero stars. BCBS is the absolute worst when it comes to calling them. They leave you waiting for about 2-3 hours and then proceeds to hang up on you. Sometimes you can't even hear music in the background while you're waiting for a representative to pick up the phone. Making you think that something went wrong with your phone. This continuously happens and I am not happy at all. Especially when it comes to work and they take up half your day waiting for someone to answer.

I have had to spend over 2 hours on hold just to pay my premium. Then when someone finally comes on the line, they ask the exact questions that the recording did. Why bother??? Customer service agents must be hired based on their ability to be rude, lazy and imcompetent.

I would leave zero stars but I’ve never dealt with more consistent incompetence, lack of wait times, being put on hold with literally each question, and customer service asking me questions liter as Lou just asked them. My employer switched me to this company by default, I strongly advice United Healthcare or anywhere else.

bcbs service

insurances need to do better when it comes to customer care and service over the phone. I work at a doctors office and feel bad for the patients when I see them with these insurances, especially BCBS. Why have a call line if youre going to try your absolute best to have an AI answer. And this is me calling from a doctors office as staff, not a sick confused patient whos seeking help because their time is limited.

Horrible experience

Horrible experience. BCBS uses American specialty health (ASH), only allows $44 toward chiro visits and double counts the visit toward both chiro and physical therapy visit count allotments. AVOID them and avoid ASH.

100% Scam of a company, others would be sued into oblivion

I'm 40 years old and this is the worst insurance company I've ever witnessed in my lifetime. An absolute mess of a structure with 0 accountability, ridiculously cobbled together systems, horrible user experience, customer reps who either have no idea what they're doing or simply do not have access to essential information. Triple the cost of my Aetna plan with 20% of the benefits or ease, loving it all.

Imagine for a moment you call up your own insurance with procedure codes, doctor names, locations and dates and the rep says: "We won't know how much that will cost you until you go thru the procedure."

Expect 100% use of outsourced call centers and empty platitudes instead of actual service.

Terrible Customer Service

I have been on the phone for more than 2 hours on 1/5/2026. I never got through to talk to someone. I am now on the phone again 1/6/2026 for another hour now.

BCBS needs better customer service. You need an online chat on the your main website page for customers to get the answers they need without the headache of waiting and hoping someone will pick up the phone.

I got disconnected and never got a call back and now I am stuck in the que again.

BCBS.....Do Better!

Crazy deductibles …

So I have to spend $8000 in deductible in order for them to pay for anything. I don’t even go to the hospital that much. And the reason why I won’t be going for any check up or other medical services. I would have kept my old insurance company something that usually cost me $200 is now over $1,700.

Not impressed with their customer service.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC's Healthy Blue plan has some issues that need addressing. The providers they work with, namely ECU Health will balance bill you and BCBS seems to be able to do nothing about it. The customer reps will tell you it's taken care of but months later you start getting collection calls. Online chat cuts you off even when you are keeping the window active and when you call it's a game of chance if you can get a live rep or not. I am a previous BCBS customer under a different plan and had no problem with them. Please consider the lack of support if you are considering choosing BCBS Healthy Blue as your Medicaid provider.

Denial of Service

I have a service that is a required treatment that accepts blue cross blue shield, but this provider does not offer coverage for this service. Absolutely despicable service. If you have any alternative option, I would go with them. They are terrible provider. You’re better off paying out of pocket.

I am retired and my pay check is fixed…

I am retired and my pay check is fixed except for a cost of living raise we usually get every year that turns out to be about $35 maybe $40. Every year we get a raise blue cross blue shield goes up on their premiums and every time it is more than my raise so really I am getting a pay cut. Blue cross is making plenty of money but it seems to be never enough for them. I wish they would quit be so damn greedy.

Blue Shield Dental - Delay Deny Depose

FEP Blue Shield Dental - I have $19,000 in outstanding claims from an in-network dentist beginning April through May 2025. BS insists I have other coverage that is primary which is not true. I have to "prove it". How can you prove something contrary to what's in their systems? I personally pay for my BS Dental premium, have received nothing but headaches, and hours, days, weeks on the phone with them. But no more. I'm going with another Dental plan in 2026 that is not BS. Ironically, my dentist is dumping them too.
