Scummy/scammy business tactics

If a business requires you to ring to cancel their subscription they're scammers.

So I tried out this free trial thing (because why not), but I later found out you have to call to cancel your subscription.

I thought it was just a one off purchase which in my opinion would be a much better service because the wine is good, but the borderline scammy tactics leaves a bad taste in my mouth (pun not intended).

If I wanted to cancel any other subscription service like Amazon or Netflix all I would have to do is click a button and it's done.
But no, I have to ring them and wait 20 minutes and then when they do answer you are forced to listen to their sales pitch, I kept saying "I want to cancel my subscription" but the sales rep kept saying "oh that's fine but we're just having a conversation first" I don't want a conversation I want to cancel, eventually I did because let's face it, who's going to drink three bottles of wine in a month that's mental.

They are working like a scam company

This is working like a scam company. They are offering free wine/beer but after that they are activating subscription without any approval. And if you try to cancel subscription, impossiple to do that from website, if you try to call, you have to wait like 30minutes. Dont ever think buy any product from this website.

AVOID BEER52 SCAM

I took the trail offer but then got charged £27 the following month, apparently by taking the trial I had joined a subscription. I called beer52 immediately and got told I can not cancel the order or receive a refund for an order that I didn't want and had no notice of. Had I had an email letting me know that an order was automatically been created I could of canceled the order prior to it being automatically completed. I feel this is a scam and my reviews will warn people to avoid this site!

Totally overpriced and hard to cancel, but here is how to cancel!

Totally overpriced, ridiculous small snacks that always arrived squashed under the wine bottles. You can sign up online yet the ask you to phone to cancel. This goes against regulations in the UK. I sent this message via their “general enquiries” contact form on their website and my account was cancelled within 24h.

I am writing to formally cancel my wine subscription with immediate effect.

Unfortunately, I do not feel the contents represent good value for money – the wines are overpriced, and the snacks consistently arrive in a poor condition. Given this, I no longer wish to continue the service.

Please confirm that my subscription has been cancelled and that no further payments will be taken. I would appreciate written confirmation of the cancellation for my records.

I expect this request to be actioned without the need for a phone call, in accordance with my consumer rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

Kind regards,

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

You can only cancel your subscription by phone, and when you do, you have no proof of cancellation. They do not allow you to cancel via email. As a result, they withdrew money from my bank account and marked it as a pending transaction, but they didn’t send any items. I disputed the transaction with my bank and called the company to request a refund. However, they canceled my points, reactivated my account, and sent the wine to me after a week. These people are fraudulent and unreliable; I recommend avoiding this company.

I got my first wine box and when I call…

I got my first wine box and when I call to leave I was asked if I would stay to get 1 more box and complimentary gift with of £20. The box arrived but I never receive the gift. When I called to ask what happened they said they forgot to shop and instead have me £2 refund. The only reason why I stayed extra month is because of a gift I was promised, but it was never received. Don’t get scammed!

Scammers

Do not use under any circumstances. You have to call to cancel then they say they will send you an email to confirm that never arrives, then they take payment again. Fraudsters and cheats. I have reported to action fraud and FSA and my bank. Refuse to give refunds even though you have told them to cancel. Scumbags of the highest order.

Only giving 1 star as no option to give no star.
Highly difficult to cancel. I was on their beer club too, and even though I cancelled, they still took a payment the next day, and refused to take the product back.
Shocking customer service.
Today was on hold for 45 minutes to the cancellation team, called the order team instead, got through within a minute.
Anyone else trying to cancel use the e-mail support at beer52.com, where I have been advised your cancellation will be within a few hours.

Very difficult to cancel!

Very difficult to cancel. You call up and they put you on hold for AGES, then, as part of the cancellation process, they insist on telling you about all the wines you are missing out on, even after you say that you don't want to hear about more offers. They say that they are obliged to read the wine descriptions 'as part of the cancellation procedure'. I twice said 'I just want to cancel, thank you, and do not wish to be given more information about other wines', but they continued to tell me about a special Georgian variety that would be mine 'for free' if I maintained my subscription. I actually had no idea that I was signing up for an ongoing subscription when Harts of Stur wrote to say that in order to thank me for my order, they had teamed up with this company to offer me 'three free bottles of wine'. Nothing is really for free, since the company obtains your data. For full data removal after subscription cancellation, you apparently have to contact data protection at Beer52, otherwise you will be contacted again in future. To quote from their cancellation email: 'Your Wine52 account has been cancelled as per your request. Farewells are never fun, so let's just consider this an 'au revoir' for the time being. (...) Thank you for choosing Wine52, and we hope that someday soon, we'll have the pleasure of introducing you to new wine experiences once again.' I logged onto their website after cancelling and my account was still active with 'Contact me by phone' checked in settings, even though I had specifically said that I did not wish to be contacted in any way. I updated my name to 'Do not contact me', but see that they have my payment details still (card ending in xxxx) from when I paid postage for the free wine. Please note also that no age verification was requested upon delivery of the alcohol!

Difficult to cancel

While the subscription service was okay after signing up on a deal, it became very expensive after the deal expired. It was then really hard to cancel & you had to call to it (while waiting on hold in a long queue to talk to someone).
I personally regretted signing up.

Pour the wine back into the sewer it came from

Really, really poor wine 90% of the time. From time to time there are acceptable wines, and so very rarely there are excellent wines. Please do not waste your time….

If you are sadly misfortunate, and end up in a subscription with Wine52 and decide to try to initiate cancellation, you’ll have to first speak to a retention team who will lie to you, and try to stop you from cancelling, by lying.

The first retention agent I spoke to was one South African girl who said I’d get a wine I had previously had and enjoyed if i kept it the subscription. I kept the subscription and I did not receive the wine at all. So then I called to cancel and I spoke to a British guy who spoke highly of the next batch of Chilean wine I’d get.

Let me tell you, it was heave worthy. I have been pouring many of the bottles back into the sewer where they came from.

Awful

I think it's disgusting that you have to call to cancel. I repeatedly said I need to stop drinking as I am suffering with a health condition and they repeatedly tried to give me free wine and beer. As I kept saying "NO!" I was offered a further 5 deals.... absolutely abhorrent, I Continued to tell them I'm struggling with alcohol addiction and they still pressed me. That should never be allowed.

If I could give 0 stars I would

If I could give 0 stars I would. I bought a box of beer and a three month subscription for my dad for his birthday and they signed him up unbeknownst to him or me to a subscription. He has contacted them many times to ask them to stop sending beer and cancel but they won’t do it, they also won’t talk to me because I’m not the account holder. These people are con men. Stay away!!!!!
