We had booked two rooms in Beaune but

We had booked two rooms in Beaune but, seeing so many very negative reviews, we cancelled and booked elsewhere. After waiting for a refund for almost two weeks, I contacted Best Western, only to be told that I had to provide evidence that the refund had not been issued! This is ridiculous - and I have never had anything like this before. The customer service lady was helpful, and after another few days we received the refund.
Never again Best Western!

1-Star Review – Good Location, Everything Else a Major Disappointment

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share this experience so others can make an informed decision.

The only positive aspect of this hotel is its location, which is convenient and central. Unfortunately, everything else was deeply disappointing.

This property is advertised as 4-star. In my view, that rating is completely unrealistic. The hotel feels old, worn, and poorly maintained. We paid extra for an “Executive” room, and it was dated and unattractive — nothing about it justified the upgrade.

The air conditioning did not work. We were advised to open the windows, which meant constant street noise and very little sleep. The water pressure was weak, and the hot water was inconsistent. These are not luxury expectations — they are basic standards.

When we raised these issues, staff acknowledged that other guests had experienced similar problems. However, instead of resolving anything, we were repeatedly told to speak to someone the next day. It became an endless cycle with no solution. We were also told changing rooms was not possible.

This stay was meant to celebrate our anniversary, and it was unfortunately overshadowed by frustration and lack of rest.

Aside from the location, the experience was a disaster. There are many better options in the area at similar prices. I strongly recommend considering them before booking here.

Worst Western is more like it!

“I’ve been a loyal rewards member for years, expecting a strong guest experience from Best Western. On a recent stay at the Best Western Beauséjour in Lourdes (Oct 4–7, 2025) I was disappointed that advertised amenities (internet, television, laundry) were unavailable without prior warning, and the front desk was frequently unattended. When I raised these concerns with corporate customer relations, they offered me only 3,000 reward points — valued at about $15 — as compensation.

That minimal gesture does not match the inconvenience and unmet expectations of the stay. It suggests a disconnect between their “guest first” messaging and real customer satisfaction. If you value reliable service, transparency about amenities, and meaningful restitution when things go wrong, you might want to consider other hotel chains.

I appreciate the corporate rep I spoke with — she was courteous and responsive — but as a whole, Best Western needs to raise its follow-through and reward structure for loyal guests who experience genuine service failures.”

And I had to pay for entire stay when I checked in! Is this normal billing procedure for this hotel group?

Horrible Customer service, room size a joke no window with daylight. If you enjoy a dungeon, this is your place. Good luck finding space for your luggage. Safety Box and Wifi didn't work on arrival but were fixed within 2 hrs of arrival. Need a shower? Good luck fitting into it if older than 13. I am 6'3 and I can tell you I had bruises all over me after stepping out of the shower. It also had a mild smell of mold. So if you have other options stay away from this junk hotel. Frankly Best Western should remove them from their chain as they are tarnishing their reputation - shocked that I am writing this myself! 😀

Outrageous security deposit arrangements - beware!

The poor rating is not a reflection on the hotel le Bois de la Marche in Poitiers, which we enjoyed, but more because of their thoroughly ridiculous security deposit arrangements. On checking in asked to provide €177 via a card, signed for it in French and told it was just a formality. No copy of what we signed for given or explained. Expected when we checked out the following day for it to be annulled as one sometimes does if asked to provide a deposit - only to be told somewhat glibly that it may take up to a week to return - and here we are 5 days later still waiting. What is more outrageous is that the deposit ( why this figure) exceeded what we paid for the stay and dinner. So, an immediate and very substantial cash outlay which was not expected. Sharp practice and would not stay again. Don’t see why we should fund their cash flow!

Uncaring service at Sure Hotel by Best Wester…

Not our choice to stay at the Sure Hotel by Best Western , Coquelles, France and would never go back. Stuck here due to car broken down. So waiting for transport which can’t be here until about an hour after we have to be out of the hotel - they can’t possible accommodate inside for that hour so we are sitting on the side of the road with 2 dogs, too much luggage to carry ourselves, in the cold November wind - it would be bad for anyone , but my husband is in the late stages of cancer and regularly needs to rest - the stress is not good for him or for me. We will never stay at a Best Western again
