Over Charged with Terrible Service
This company provided terrible service on my gas fireplace. I told the technician that my pilot flame keeps shutting off. This technician claimed he sealed a minor leak. He restarted my fireplace, but the next morning I noticed the pilot flame shut off again therefore the problem wasn't fixed. This company did not come to correct the problem instead they suggested something else was wrong with my fireplace and wanted to charge me more money after they had already charged me $280. I would not recommend this company to do any type of services.
They are not reputable
I had an appt on 11/2/25 with BHO for a fireplace failing to ignite. The technician called to inform me he would be late arriving which he was over 2 hours late. Once he arrived and I gave him background info on what happened he immediately took the fascia off the front of the fireplace messed with the flow tubes a little tested for gas leak fired it up and it lit immediately. He replaced the fascia said they could do an acid clean of the gas line but that would be like $900. I said I would not be doing that right now but what was wrong with it and he just beat around the bush and never said what the issue was. Then charged $300 and on the receipt said if the issue occurs again to just give them a call. Well 48 hrs and two starts later the same thing happened, so I called on the 11/4/25 they said they would call me back to reschedule him to come out. I never heard from him. I called on 11/10/25 same thing no call, called on 11/19/25 still no call back. I called today 12/3/25 and I’m still waiting for a response. I will call everyday until they either change their number, fix my fire place or refund my money. BHO is a ro off. Do not look at the reviews on their website they are not the same as the ones with the better business bureau or on trust pilot. Beware of this scam.
Ripped off
I had a simple problem. I had a flue brush stuck in my chimney. I called Bho up. I was very clear about what needs to be done. They said no problem. They sent a guy over to my house. He shows up park in my driveway with a minivan no ladders. I asked him if he understood what the problem was that he may have to get up from the top of the Chimney. He said no problem.
Judging from the Equipment that he had, I could tell that he was not gonna be able to do it. I asked him outright. He showed me some silly little flu brush. It was definitely not the right tool.
Took one look at the chimney and said he couldn’t do it and then proceeded to charge me $75 for the initial inspection
As I didn’t want to conflict on my front yard, I just gave him the $75
Do yourself a favor stay away do not use this service. They do not know what they’re doing. They obviously just started a company without any training stay away.
Why are they still in business?
Definitely avoid and why aren’t they closed by BBB? Busy people trying to get household care done quickly can’t catch a break when these BS scam companies are the top results! Nobody has time for this!
Anyways, thankfully we didn’t pay when we saw how bad they were. Very sketchy and didn’t lay down a tarp so the whole living room is covered in soot. Will now have to spend hours and money cleaning. Sorry to all the others honest, hard working people who had to deal with this. It’s too bad there are such incompetent, dishonest people out there. So if you want to avoid this waste of time and money, avoid this company
The operator showed up in a beat up van…
The operator showed up in a beat up van with Texas license plate. The windshield was cracked and unsafe. Reflective of their work habits.
The operator pulled out a shop vac. No ladder, no flume broom. I sent him away.
Extremely Disappointed
Booked an inspection with BHO Chimney Sweep, and they rescheduled three times, arrived late, and offered a quote of $4,000 for a repair I resolved myself. Their technician barely looked at the issue and showed no professionalism. I would strongly advise choosing a different provider.
No call , late showing up and NO Free estimate .
Was told the guy doing the check would call half an hour before he comes... NO Phone call... Appointment was for 11:00 am .. Showed up after noon... The FREE inspection cost me $69.00 . Will use them or refer them to anyone.
Chimney inspection
Called and set up inspection for 11/20 between 3 and 5 pm. Missed phone call around 3 o'clock then received text telling me tech was running on delay and could be here by 4 and to reply "ok" which i did. They called back about 5 minutes til 5 telling me the tech would not make it out that evening. We reschedule for the next day between 10 am and 12 pm. The technician called around 12 asking me what I needed done exactly. I told him I needed an inspection. He then began to tell me he was running behind and could be here in about an hour or so. This was the second time they did not show up on time. He tried to blame it on the missed call from the day before. I then told him to nevermind and that I would find someone else to do my inspection. From my experience I would not recommend this company for a chimney inspection.
Tried charged us $4k!
Before they even showed up, they ended up rescheduling our appointment three times. When they did end up finally showing up, they looked at our fireplace for less than 10 minutes, deemed it as 'unfixable' and quoted us $4,000 to replace it! We ended up being able to fix it and get it working that same night after they left. I would highly recommend a different company for any fireplace repairs!
TERRIBLE Comapny. Buyer beware
I wish we could review with negative stars. This company is the worst. I set up an appointment, one month earlier, received email conformation, called the company to confirm, even received an email confirmation. Had to call on the day of service because I heard nothing, ONLY THEN to find out they won't service my area. I spoke to them 2 times, have an email conformation, and then, without a word, just opted not to come and I had to call, hours after their scheduled appointment, to find out that NOW, instead of a month earlier, decided to NOT come out. IF YOU CAN FIND ANYONE ELSE,EVEN YOURSELF, TO DO THIS, DO SO. This company acts like they are a monopoly and serves who they want, when they want. And will lie to you about their commitment. Find another company or be sorely disappointed. There is a reason they have 1.5 star reviews and it's not because they care or try. It's because they truly do not care aboit your time, money, or that they think they hold us hostage. Sad stuff that a company like this exists.
Untrained or Unable to Do What they Say
The technician came out and had no idea what to do to fix our fireplace. He said he inspected it and everything was ok and that if we let the gas run for about an hour the fireplace would work. That did not happen. They were engaged to get the fireplace working and could not accomplish this. Don't use this firm.
The technician Eli
The technician Eli, left a MESS of soot all over the area downstairs. After emailing and calling trying to receive a partial refund We were told by Eli that he wasn't issuing a refund and that he wasn't dealing with my bullshit. And hung up. We've been cleaning the house ever since the chimney service. My 90 year old father and grandchildren whom are 8 and 2 are constantly exposed to this soot and mess even after our attempts of cleaning. We've hired a new service to come and re clean the chimney and will probably have to hire a cleaning service to help get rid of the rest of the soot we cannot do ourselves. Items have been ruined and thrown away and repurchased due to this. The amount of mess left is a safety hazard to my family. Severly disappointed for a thousand dollar service!
Total Scam/Upsell - Charged $69 for a 5-Minute Inspection
We called for a chimney cleaning, but instead, we got a high-pressure sales pitch. The person arrived in an unmarked uniform, was totally unprofessional (didn't remove muddy shoes), and spent 5 minutes looking at our fireplace before announcing we needed a $1000 deep cleaning and a $1000+ custom topper (based on a quick look from the ground in the pouring rain). We were immediately charged $69 for the "inspection." The entire experience was shady, from the lack of company identification to the conflicting business names on the receipt/website. This is not a professional service; it's an expensive upselling operation.
If I could give this company zero stars…
If I could give this company zero stars I would. BHO sent two technicians to our home to do fireplace inspections on our gas fireplaces. Both technicians had zero experience working with gas fireplaces. When I called the number to complain, I was told by someone who was a scheduler they had nothing to do with who was sent. I requested proof of their certification to work with gas lines and the scheduler I talked with had no idea what I was talking about. She could not refer me to another person to speak with and said she would try to contact the company to have someone return my call. The technicians that were sent were friendly, butvery unprofessional looking. This is not a reliable company.
If I could give 0 stars I would
If I could give 0 stars I would. I scheduled an appt for someone to come inspect my fireplace to make sure we could use it. My appt time was between 8am-11am. No one called I had to reach out to the company at 10:30am to see if they were still coming. After I called the tech reached out and said he'll be here at 12. No one came... They didn't get here till 6pm. He inspected it and did a so called cleaning even tho it was never used so it wasn't nothing really to clean. The little big if stuff that came out he didn't clean it up afterwards. Then had the nerve to charge $679. When that wasn't communicated.
I Spoke with MIKKA TODAY AND SHE…
I Spoke with MIKKA TODAY AND SHE APPARENTLY DIDN'T LIKE MY VERBIAGE AND CALLED MY PHONE FROM YOUR BUSINESS AND SAID F YOU TOO THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED AND NO SUPERVISOR IS AVAILABLE Ummmm i wonder why??????
Water was leaking down the chimney of…
Water was leaking down the chimney of my gas fireplace whenever it rain.i called BHO. A technician came and told me that he applied some silicone around the chimney and fixed the problem. When it rain, the problem was fixed. I called them at least ten times to report that the problem hasn't been fixed. Each time they promised to have some call me to come back to fix the problem. No calls and no show. I would not recommend this company to anyone. They are very dishonest and unprofessional. Very poor customer service.
😡 Terrible Service, Damaged Property, and a $5,680 Unnecessary Replacement Quote
On Sunday, October 26, 2025, we had Technician Leo visit our home to assess our non-working gas fireplace. The service was a complete failure and resulted in unnecessary damage to our property.
Caused Damage: While attempting to assess the fireplace, Technician Leo could not determine how the decorative logs were affixed. He proceeded to forcefully pull and broke the right bottom log during his disassembly attempt.
Failed Assessment: Despite causing damage, Leo failed to diagnose the issue. Instead, he simply told us the fireplace was "old" and needed complete replacement, providing us with Quote #722-1 for $5,680.
Charged for Failure: Leo then charged a service fee of $71.62 for this failed and damaging visit, which I paid.
Competitor Success: The very next day, a technician from Aztec Fireplace Service came out. They immediately diagnosed the problem (a common electronic control unit failure) and repaired the unit for only $400. We were told the fireplace is in good condition and should last another 20 years.
Cost of Damage: The Aztec technician even provided the part number to replace the log Leo broke. The replacement log cost $147.25.
In total, Leo's company caused damage and tried to push a near $6,000 replacement for a simple $400 repair. When I contacted Technician Leo about the damage and requesting a refund for the service fee and log cost ($218.87 total), he did not respond. I strongly recommend avoiding this company.
A scam is a dishonest scheme to defraud…
A scam is a dishonest scheme to defraud someone by gaining their trust, often exploiting emotions like greed, naivety, or compassion.
Chimney scams are unfortunately quite common, especially during colder months when homeowners are more likely to book last-minute cleanings.
Here’s how to spot and avoid chimney cleaning scams:
🔍 1. Verify Credentials and Certifications
Legitimate chimney professionals are usually certified by recognized trade organizations such as:
CSIA — Chimney Safety Institute of America
NFI — National Fireplace Institute
NCSG — National Chimney Sweep Guild
👉 Check the company’s website and confirm their certification on the official CSIA or NFI directories.
If they can’t or won’t provide a certification number, that’s a red flag.
Also check Trust Pilot to ensure that the company is not advertising false reviews on it's website.
💲 2. Beware of “Too-Good-To-Be-True” Prices
Scammers often advertise very low prices (like $29 or $49 chimney cleanings) to get inside your home — then claim to “find” serious issues requiring hundreds in cleanings or repairs.
✅ A typical professional cleaning costs $150–$250, depending on chimney type and region.
❌ If the quote is suspiciously low, assume it’s a bait-and-switch.
❌ If the quote is high, ask how much time they will spend cleaning and get it in writing.
A single-flue wood-burning fireplace is faster and should take about 45–60 minutes.
Multi-flue or tall masonry chimneys can take closer to 2 hours or more.
🧾 3. Ask for a Written Estimate and Inspection Report
A reputable company will:
Provide a written, itemized estimate before starting.
Include photos or video of any problems they find (cracks, creosote, liner issues).
Never pressure you into immediate repairs.
Scammers often:
Use high-pressure tactics (“this could cause a fire tonight!”).
Reuse to show you visual proof, or show you fake photos.
Demand cash-only or instant payments.
Very disappointed!
I agree with someone else's review that the 5-star reviews on their website must be bogus. They are the most unprofessional company I have ever worked with by far. The people in the call center can't assist with anything needed and you can't get a call from someone in the actual office. I was lied to repeatedly and then because I kept calling for help, they actually blocked my number. I had to call from another number to get assistance but again was told they would take care of my issue and then again, it never happened. I still haven't gotten my issue resolved but have given up. I do not recommend this company.
