They took my book order in June 2024…

They took my book order in June 2024 knowing full well they were going insolvent. Now that they have been bought out and repaid all the big creditors they won't reimburse the individuals. Got a response saying 'sorry, we can't give you back your money'. And they continue as new! Sending me emails like everything is normal. I am going to make it my life's work to strongly not recommend them to everyone I meet. Such a terrible attitude to previously loyal customers.

Back in August 2024 Booktopia was acquired by Digi Direct and have been operating under new owners, unfortunately any order before July are the sole responsibility of the Administrators as we do not have access to those orders.

The only thing we can directly recommend in this situation is contacting your financial Institution to raise a dispute for chargeback with whichever payment method you used to place your order.

Do not buy from here - they're super dodgy

Do not buy from here - I would give it 0 stars if I could. I bought a paperback for $82.50 and paid $14.95 express shipping because I really needed it for study urgently. I could have bought the same copy secondhand from Amazon and saved $70. But I thought it would be worth it to add it to my long term collection. Booktopia basically sent me a second hand book - the pages are covered in sooty fingerprint that won't wipe off and the pages and cover are all bent like a book that's been with someone for a long time and read continually. It was really damaged- there's no way this is a new book from an online store's warehouse. I wonder the margin they get from peddling secondhands. I asked them to refund it and the shipping, but Ann from customer service insisted that because it arrived on time they shouldn't have to refund the express shipping - she then agreed to refund the $4.95 difference between shipping and express but I wouldn't have incurred any shipping cost had I not purchased the book. I think they're super dodgy and selling second handbooks and pretending they're new. I would never buy from there again and so I'm refunding and returning all books I purchased in the order, not just the damaged one. Awful experience - they're really dodgy. I would never ever purchase anything from them - I hope the poor quality of their products and the customer service policies lead to the natural end to their business. Don't give them your custom.
Update: Unfortunately Dymocks didn't have them in stock but I've since bought the same titles new from amazon and it ended up being cheaper and included free shipping. Lesson learned.

I do want to apologise for the damaged and dirty book that you have received. All books that are sent out are brand new and should be in pristine condition. Any items received damaged, faulty and not in pristine condition we will issue a replacement or a refund.

I also want to say that I am very sorry for the customer experience that you have received, I have put the feedback through in hopes to improve our services and the customer experience.

If you still want to return just the damaged book, I am happy to issue a full refund for this book and the $14.95 express shipping fee. I do appreciate that you may now want to return the full order for a refund which is also understandable.

I order ans paid for 2 books that…

I order ans paid for 2 books that didn't turn up. After contacting BT I was advised to submit a claim form which I did. That was 6months ago. No happy Jan!!

Booktopia literally stole from its customers

They took $200 from me knowing they couldn't fulfil the order and they refuse to refund it. They were fined $6 million for lying to their customers (look it up). Now they're back and pretending like nothing happened. If you make an order on booktopia ... good luck. It's a coin flip and you might literally just be throwing money away. Be smart and avoid.

Easy transaction.

They didn’t have the set of books I was looking for as a Xmas gift but had the books individually which didn’t really work out to much extra so I was happy about that.They came in plenty of time for Xmas and were well packaged.Would definitely buy from these guys again.

Flagrant thievery - steer clear!!!!

It makes me furious whenever I see Booktopia advertising on the internet because they ripped me off to the tune of hundreds of dollars - along with many other customers. The company went bankrupt and sent emails out to all their existing customers that orders would not be fulfilled and no refunds would be issued. However, they continued to trade, taking orders from unwitting new customers even as they pocketed hard earned money that their loyal, long time customers had given to them in good faith. I will never order from them again and I warn everyone I come across to steer clear of these criminals.

I ordered a book for Christmas on 4th December. When I called 2 weeks later (it was pending on my aus post app) they said it was still in warehouse waiting. Obviously not enough staff. It's Christmas Eve and have received all my online purchases except this one from Booktopia. Will not be using again

We paid for two books and Booktopia…

We paid for two books and Booktopia didn’t deliver.

In one case they declared insolvent and in the second just took the money and didn’t deliver.
This company shouldn’t be allowed to continue operating as they are as per 24th December 2024.

Actually I had a good experience

Actually I had a good experience with Booktopia. They had the books I wanted and delivery was fast. Well I live in the outback so anything that arrives within 3 weeks is good for here.
I have purchased from them before with no issues either. Perhaps it’s the type of literature I read. Anyway I recommend them and will use them again. Until it doesn’t go well then I will review differently.
