Wrong test sent

Wrong test sent, cannot scan at code. Wasted money and lots of time for trying to contact customer service via telephone and email. Do not recommend.

I would give this no stars if I could

I would give this no stars if I could. It is IMPOSSIBLE to upload your result. I've done everything, including trying all the tips helpfully left by other reviewers. What a waste of time and money. Boots should immediately change the system.

No printed barcode

I ordered my kit, then my wife’s. Both arrived the same day, but a second kit arrived for my wife on the following day with the same order number. All three kits were from the same batch number

I did my test first, but I could not upload the result as the device did not have a barcode. My wife’s first kit did have a barcode, so we successfully uploaded using Safari (Brave would not scan)

Luckily her second kit did have a barcode, so I was able to complete my tests using the spare kit. However, there is a quality issue with batch COV1070078 as some kits are missing barcodes which might be a problem if you are the unfortunate person without one.

There is no contact details for Boots, but I have reported this to Hughes Healthcare.

Boots Day 2 LFT Not recommended

Cannot recommend the Boots day 2 lateral flow test. The tests themselves seemed straightforward and were negative when read at the correct time. However, uploading the results was a nightmare and the instructions to do this poor. It took a further 45 minutes to activate and scan the completed test during which time my husband's became weakly positive. An immediate repeat NHS LFT and PCR the following day were both negative. Sadly the PCR result did not return in time for my husband to celebrate his birthday at a family meal as he was dutifully isolating. Not impressed. If you use this test be sure to photograph the result at the correct time to read it and not assume you'll be able to scan results in a timely way.

Scanning QR Codes

The test itself was easy enough and instructions quite clear. The upload was something else altogether. As per other reviews I just could not get the QR code to scan or input the QR code manually. A BIG TIP... I took a photo of the QR code on my iphone then enlarged it. Once enlarged I showed this to my PC camera and at last it scanned. They have a real problem with this inputting system - not easy at all.

Absolute disaster

Absolute disaster. Information re barcode wrong. QR code will not scan. I have my name listed twice and no way to correct. Online was no help, local store not answered phone at all. Store staff caouldn't help. Called another provider but they are unable to do a test for me now. Called the gov help no and they can't advise what I can do. I hope this doesn't stop my next trip. I won't be using Boots

ReCoa 19 Portal difficult to use and no way to contact or challenge

Received the tests on time with no issues. But trying to activate the test kit was v difficult - the ReCova portal does not like safari and I had to manually input the QR code on my PC. Then with my wife's test clearly showing a negative result - ReCova advised that it is positive- there is no way to contact or challenge ReCova a v poor experience

Breathtaking Incompetence

Can only echo the problems of others. Day Two Test (Hughes Rapid Antigen). Cannot register the test online. Camera does not recognise barcode on package, nor does it pick up the QR code on the test cassette. Currently in min 38 of holding to speak to someone at Boots. They've had plenty of time to get this process right. That is so manifestly wrong, and that Boots has apparently done nothing to resolve these issues, is very poor. Advantage Card being binned right now.

Day 2 LFT frustration due to poor instructions

This review is about the Day2, lateral flow, home test kit experience on 5th November 2021.
Also see uk.trustpilot.com reviews for recova-19.com

I agree with other reviewers; it is inexcusable for the instructions to be anything other than crystal clear. So, as others have found for "sample tube bar code" read "Test cassette QR code".

Then, even if you've guessed that it's the test cassette, you go into a blind, jet-lagged panic when scanning the QR code from the Android browser doesn’t work, unless you happen to have defaulted to Chrome. So, I was in jet-lagged, blind panic until I stumbled on the great advice on this forum. Note that the work-around to pre-scan the QR code and enter manually didn’t work using copy and paste and reported invalid bar code. Try typing in the code instead or use Chrome browser to scan directly into the form.

As a chartered engineer I agree that the lack of attention to detail by Boots / Recova makes this a poor experience and is inexcusable.

UPDATE. Having ultimately uploaded my wife's and my results, we both got confirmation and certificates within 20 minutes.
I should also point out that my Boots / Recova in-store fit-to-fly test on 22nd September 2021 went well, with results within 20 hours.
So, I have to give some credit for that.

Another disappointed customer.

Appalling service. It was impossible to upload the test result. Contacting Boots Customer Care by phone took over an hour, and they gave an incorrect solution to the problem.
E- mail responses are days later, and unhelpful. I have paid for a Day 2 Test kit, am unable to upload the results, I am technically in breach of the law and Boots obviously does not care.
A complete waste of money.

Just about impossible to upload results…

Just about impossible to upload results of test as the instructions are not correct it asks for the barcode of the test from the tube. It actually wants the QR code from the test strip.
This then wont upload from your phone as it repeatedly fails to recognise the in built camera or QR code reader. Your are unable to eneter the QR code manually. Then following advice from this site sent all my details to my PC and tried again this time copying and pasting the QR code. It wont accept the first letter so deleted the letter C and still wont accept so reinstated the C manually and finally it accepted it and uploaded. A complete and utter balls up. Wont be using Boots ever again and they charghed me £21 for the privlidge

Paid £68 for a Covid "arrivals" test…

Paid £68 for a Covid "arrivals" test which I completed 2 days after I arrived. Sent it off immediately. After 7 days in the UK I returned to Italy during which time no result was provided. I complained to Boots once I was back in Italy and the result was finally posted on their website 11 days after I first sent it to them. Pointless waste of money - still trying to get a refund

Can't press the Send button?

Thank you to others who confirmed that the best way to submit the result it to scan the QR code on the test cassette and then go online and enter the series of letters and numbers.
However I did that in both the boxes then tried to press the Send button, but it was greyed out and didn't work. After trying everything I eventually discovered that if I placed the cursor at the start of the code and deleted the first letter, then hit the Tab key, that I could then send it.

What a palaver!

Unable to activate the test in order to upload the results

The webpage for registering was painful but I was able to complete it. The test kit arrived within two days. But I was unable to register the test. The barcode I entered wasn't being recognised. The wording on the instructions didn't make sense. There was no barcode to scan or a QR code to read. The instructions didn't help or solve my problem. There is no possibility to report the issue to Boots Recova. I will not be purchasing this product again

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE - Avoid at all costs!

Purchased Day 2 Post Travel Testing (DV) kits for my partner and myself. Completed as per instructions but hit a brick wall trying to activate the tests as I could not enter or scan the barcode/QR code as requested. Tried manually entering it. Tried using the barcode scanner but kept getting an 'error initializing camera' message. Gave up in the end as my stress level was going through the roof. £42 paid out for nothing. Boots should be thoroughly ashamed ripping off people who are trying to do the right thing.

Wouldn't work from Phone at all

Wouldn't work from Phone at all. Could not upload code from phone as got an error as it tried to open a barcode reader not a QR Reader. Scanned QR code (ON TEST STRIP) with an installed QR reader on phone which gives you letters and numbers. Website on phone still wouldnt accept these letters and numbers. So went on PC. (below instructions may help)
1. Read QR code on test strip with phone QR reader.
2. Sent QR code letters and numbers to PC. Sent Photo of test to PC
3. logged into Recova website on PC. ( I used firefox)
4. Select activate test
5. Entered numbers & letters from QR Scan made on phone, which then allowed me to activate test.
6. Uploaded photo of test.

A complete waste of time and money

An expensive waste of time and money. I've had to buy two tests in eth last month to satisfy the requirement of the PLF hor travel. It hasn't been possible to register either of the tests or submit either result. So my cost of £42 and two hours of my time, the government are none the wiser. In essence a very poor portal and I am surprised Boots haven't taken action already. I only wish that I had reviewed before I purchased

IT meltdown!

I would have scored higher given most aspects were OK but given the number of bad reviews on here seemingly the only way to get something done is give the lowest score possible.

Travelling to France all I had to do was complete a 'sworn undertaking' declaration, despite the UK having the highest number of cases in Europe. We seem to end up paying money. Also I wasted over 1 hour this morning trying to load a test result.

Ordering a 2 day LCR test was fine; it arrived within a couple of days. The test itself was simple; just a swab from the nose.

The nightmare was uploading the results. The online form asks you to enter or scan the barcode or QR code from the sample tube or enter the barcode of the sample tube. There is a plastic tube to collect your sample but that had nothing on it. There are barcodes and QR codes on the other materials provided but none of them had both together.

I scanned the various QR codes but when I did a confirmation scan the original info vanished. Having read a number of the complaints on this site I scanned in the QR code on the plastic test cassette. This came up COV1070078HUGHESAG plus some numbers. Doing a re-scan it disappeared. I scanned it in again and wrote down the reference and entered it manually in the second box. It worked and the rest was simple and after completing everything I received a confirmation of the negative result within minutes.

Clearly after all the user complaints this problem could have been easily rectified but someone is more interested in the money rather than making things more convenient for customers.
