Found car on auto trader and spoke to…

Found car on auto trader and spoke to Mark who described how it was.....I was somewhat sceptical because it was such low miles for its age. My son lived closer to me and he went to inspect it and reported back to me.....was very near a oil and filter service.....spoke to Mark and he said he would do.....which he did at a cost of just over £300.00. I picked car up and drove home.....drives lovely, a real pleasure ......thankyou Mark you have been honest and upfront , keep up the good work.

Friendly and helpful service - great car!

Braidwood has a fantastic range of cars. I found the one I wanted on Autotrader, called for more info and paid a returnable deposit. Mark kindly offered to put a fresh MOT on the car, even though it wasn’t due for 7 months, and paid for some significant work to be done for my peace of mind. Braidwood Motors is almost 400 miles away from me, but I was able to book a cheap flight and they collected me from Edinburgh airport. It was easy! Nothing was too much trouble and there was no pressure at all while I looked over the car. Needless to say, I’m delighted with the car which was just as described in the advert.

DO NOT BUY

Mark was incredibly reassuring and friendly so we drove a 6 hour round trip to purchase what appeared to be an immaculate mini countryman cooper s from this garage and had problems instantly. The battery died within the first week and the advisories on the MOT certificate were much more significant and I have no idea how it passed. The clutch pipe was in such a bad state I was advised it needed replacing immediately- Spent hundreds on these repairs because the full warranty that I was reassured would cover any problems, didn’t. Still had problems with the brakes which cost another £600+ to repair, then a few weeks later the passenger door handle broke trapping my 90 year old grandma in the car. More repairs, then a few weeks later the engine management light came on and the car needed an oxygen sensor, and was dropping in power. Replaced this and not even 3 weeks later the alternator died suddenly leaving me broken down in the middle of a busy roundabout. £700 to repair this. THEN my air con broke! I’m not even bothering to fix it, waste of time at this point.
Literally one problem after another from point of purchase. Absolutely heap of shit, not worth £1000 let alone the almost £13,000 I spent on it. My 20 year old banger cars were better than this.
Pay attention to the reviews and don’t waste your money 💔

NOT JUSTIFIED

We are very disappointed to receive such a disparaging review, especially as, in our opinion, you have been very disingenuous in the extreme which can affect the livelihood of all staff, when not explained in detail.

The reason for the delayed response is two fold.
Firstly, we had to search for the date of sale of the car to yourself, to find that it was TWO (2) YEARS AGO, at which point, the car was already 6 years old.

Secondly Mark, who sold you the car, was on holiday at the time of your posting the review, and we wanted to ask him if you had been in touch with him at any time, through any means, regarding the issues that you have mentioned.
He has since returned and says that not once did you contact him with any problems in relation to the various faults you've mentioned. We did wonder, because any other customer experiencing a battery failure, within days of purchase, would call to explain the problem and, quite rightly, look for immediate assistance. It appears that you didn't make any contact whatsoever.

We have looked at the advisories on the M.O.T. at the time of sale, (carried out by an garage independent from ourselves) and they were nothing more than the service brake binding, but not excessively.
In any case, both front and rear brake discs and pads were replaced by the workshop prior to you collecting the car.

The clutch pipe advisory was clearly not an issue or would have been deemed a failure by the inspector at the time. We have to ask why you didn't contact Mark to make him aware that another garage had deemed the clutch pipe not fit for purpose.
Perhaps you should be questioning the eventual repairer of the clutch pipe, as to whether or not it was really necessary to replace, or were they merely prospecting for work? We will never know.

We've covered the brakes issue earlier, therefore, we fail to understand why brakes would require to be replaced during this period. Again, no contact from yourself to highlight any problem.

Door handle: We're assuming, as no other explanation is available to us, that this would have been nothing more than a failed door latch. If that was the case, then it would have been covered by the warranty, if the failure of such occurred within the 6 month insured period.
To say that your grandma was trapped in the car sounds a little dramatic, given that there's a door on the other side. Although, we know we weren't there, but we think it's fair to make this hypothesis.

Oxygen sensor: again the part failure would have been covered by the warranty, if failure occurred within the 6 month insured period.

Alternator: once more covered by the warranty, if part failed during the 6 month insured period. Also, £700 for an alternator is incredibly excessive, if indeed that is what you were charged.

Air conditioning: Without better information, we have to assume that you mean it required re-gassing. This is a serviceable item and will need topping up every so often, depending on the usage. The typical cost of this would be around £80-100-hardly prohibitive.

Other than the battery, you haven't stated when the other problems materialised, although we have to come to the conclusion that they may have been out with the 6 month insurance period, otherwise you should have gone through the appropriate claims procedure explained in the warranty book supplied.

If at any time you were unsure, then all you had to do was call Mark for help.

Excellent & friendly

Car was exactly as described, Mark was friendly from the start and, very important to me, was never pushy ortried to force the sale. He gave me time to look over the car and waited until I was finished before asking my thoughts. Change over day was super simple and easy with Mark doing all of the work, transferring ownership of my purchase and my trade in. All was confirmed by email in minutes.
This is the true benefit of using an independant dealer - friendly personal service with zero pressure to buy extra insurances or ceramic paint protection gubbins.
Keep using family run independant companies, otherwise we will lose them to the giant corporates and we will all be poorer for that.

Bought from these having not seen the car or heard of them so was very nervous and cautious especially given some of the reviews I’d read and was parting with nearly £50k
They collected me promptly from the airport and took me to the dealership which, on first impressions looks a bit ropey tbh. However cars great, service was good. Upon the long drive home the ‘air freshener’ wore off and the overpowering stench of a smokers car took over. I ended up getting it fully valeted internally and also bought a Halfords odour smoke bomb which has helped. They were good enough to go halves on the detailers £100 invoice which was good. Detailer did also point out to me the amount of mud under the wheel arches so hadn’t been fully cleaned, and also it’s had a small bonnet re spray ( hopefully just for stone chips) and some overspray on headlights which was surprising given the car is just 18 months old and only 5k
Overall I’m happy and the car spec is what I wanted.
Maybe a little more attention to detail is needed but nobody’s perfect.

Recently bought a car from Mark at Braidwood.

We found the car in an online search, the advert was exactly what the car looked like in person...immaculate.

The experience buying was smooth with no issues.
