Great learning app that’s easy to use however I didn’t want it long term. I forgot to cancel and, despite their terms, they issued me a refund out of goodwill. Great customer services.

Written by the company

Brilliant helps learners achieve much higher levels of ability in STEM, in less time, with more purpose and joy. Its content spans algebra, programming, and other quantitative problem solving across math and computer science. Brilliant’s lessons prioritize visual representations and active learning. Lessons build intuition with visual explanations, hands-on manipulation, and concrete computation. Brilliant doesn’t teach how to do something before asking questions—instead, it lets learners try to find a solution before learning the procedure. Every lesson has associated practice sets. For personalized practice, Brilliant predicts the optimal next problem to ask, so that learners are adequately prepared to answer future questions. This includes spaced repetition in weak areas and mixing practice problems from different concepts, so that learners must identify what approach to use to solve each problem, rather than just applying the same procedure to every problem. Brilliant’s courses are crafted by multiple IMO medalists and PhDs from MIT, Caltech, Stanford, and Harvard. Brilliant serves people who take pride in having a well-trained mind—students seeking to excel in STEM, professionals learning new skills or refreshing dormant ones, and lifelong learners staying sharp. Brilliant’s optimized learning experience is not only effective, interactive, and adaptive—it’s also fun. The gamification layer provides scaffolding for motivation and habit formation. This provides another tool to help learners stick with learning even in the absence of tutors or parents who help foster motivation. The content itself is also designed to feel fun—from the pedagogical design of the interactives and problem progression, to the types of sounds, feedback, and haptics as learners interact and progress through levels of progressively more difficult problem solving in a topic.

Don't touch it.

I had the same experience as other 1 star reviewers here. The free trial is like a trap. If £100 makes a difference to you, don't touch it.

Thank you Brilliant

When first time i saw this app on play store i was shocked. The idea behind it was magnificent. But I doubt that they can make it real, spoiler alert: they did.

The topics are Brilliant, and wide. From it to art to mathematics.

I'm from Iran. A country in middle eats. Unlike they're politicians Iranian are kind, happy and funny. In January, regim kills around 10000 Iranian protests. They shut down Internet and kill their people.

It's a very dark and terrifying era in my whole 5000 years of Iran history. But one thing make me feel better. Brilliant was helping us. They didn't broke our strike chain . Even this little help was alot.

Thank you Brilliant. Thank you Steph(the admin)

A Solid Platform, but with Room to Grow

I think Brilliant is decent, but not outstanding.
I’ve tried it, and it’s especially strong for mathematics.
However, if you want to improve your programming skills (for example in Python), it’s smarter to learn with the help of AI and to experiment using online coding compilers.
This way, you can learn for free and at least ten times faster, which simply makes more sense.
I also believe Brilliant could benefit from offering more dedicated courses in science and engineering, such as civil engineering, energy systems, chemistry, optics & photonics, and mechanics. Some of these topics are touched on in the Scientific Thinking course, but in my opinion, they deserve full courses of their own.

Thanks for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback. It’s great to hear that you found Brilliant particularly strong for mathematics — that’s an area we put a lot of care into through interactive problem-solving and visual explanations.

You also raise fair points about programming and the value of hands-on experimentation. Brilliant’s approach is less about replacing practical coding tools and more about helping learners build strong conceptual foundations that can support faster, more confident experimentation.

We appreciate your suggestions around deeper science and engineering topics and have shared them with our content team as we continue expanding our library. Thanks for helping us think about how Brilliant can grow. Stay curious! 🌱

1/2 star deserved

If I could give 1/2 star that would be awesome. This company is a total rip off. They charged me for something I never purchased. I have no account with Brilliant and they won't refund me unless I sign on to my account. Of course, yet again I do not have an account with Brilliant. Customer service on refunds deserve a ZERO!!!!!!

That’s understandably frustrating, and we’re sorry it felt so difficult to get help.

Unexpected charges are usually linked to an existing signup under an email, Apple/Google account, or payment method—even if you don’t recall creating an account. For security reasons, our team does need to locate the account tied to the charge before reviewing it. If you contact support@brilliant.org with the charge details, we can help track it down and assist you further.

Really liked the sample but asking for your payment information before the "trial" period seemed like a test of your intelligence in itself.

It's too bad because I was pretty likely to have subscribed it it hadn't been for that.

Thanks for giving Brilliant a try — glad to hear you enjoyed the learning experience itself!

I understand why being asked for payment details before a trial could feel discouraging. We do this to allow a smooth transition into a full membership if someone chooses to continue, but we know it’s not everyone’s preference. Your feedback is appreciated and has been shared with the team as we think about improving that first experience.

They never recall about my trial ending… and charged me 150$

They never recall about my trial ending and the renewal. THEY TOOK 120€ (150$) without any previous notice and despite me trying to cancel the renewal literally 20 MINUTES after they took my money, there no way to get a refund on the website. You have to harass them, that's the way they ask to be treated!!!!
And their service is really bad, it's nothing special, just some ridiculous graphical animation, the same as in a study book but on a website.
Don't get scammed like me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Oleg, this sounds like a really frustrating experience, and it’s understandable to feel upset when a renewal catches you by surprise. We appreciate you sharing how this felt from your side.

For clarity, once you reached out to our support team, we were able to help and a refund was issued. We know that doesn’t erase the stress of the moment, but we do want to acknowledge that your concern was ultimately resolved.

Brilliant uses automatic renewals so learners can continue uninterrupted, but we recognize that reminders and cancellation flows need to feel clear and easy—your feedback highlights where that experience can fall short. We’re sharing this with the team as we keep working to make billing and account management more transparent and straightforward.

We’re also sorry to hear the learning experience itself didn’t meet your expectations. Brilliant focuses on interactive, visual problem-solving to help people build intuition, but we understand that style isn’t for everyone.

If you’d like to share anything more about what didn’t work for you, our team is always open at support@brilliant.org. Feedback like this genuinely helps us improve.

Watch out for renewals - you won't get a refund!

Agreeing with other reviews here that there are issues with billing. We didn't notice the renewal because it was sent to my daughter and even though we hadn't used the account they would not offer even a partial refund, helpfully pointing out (as they have to other's here) that all payments are final - watch out!

The content itself was so-so, but it never really captured the imagination of the kids. There are better and cheaper routes to learning math available.

Scam alert - unauthorised payments after cancellation

Be careful signing up to Brilliant. They will make large unauthorised debits after you've cancelled the subscription and will refuse to refund the money.

In response to Brilliant, that is simply not true. I cancelled the subsription but was then was charged $171.6 USD. I suggest you review your company ethics and practices because going off my experience and judging by the feedback of several other customers the issue is ubiquitous.

Reply to Brilliant: let me clarify for you, I cancelled the subcription during the free trial period in May 2025. (Had I known this would happen I would have taken a screenshot as proof but I was naive). Then I was charged in June 2025 without my knowledge, which I only became aware of recently while filing taxes, Disgraceful and unethical! This matter could easily have been resolved with a full refund and apology, but instead Brilliant doubled down and gas lit. Keep the money! You will never get my business again. I hope prospective customers read this before supplying their payment details to this unscrupulous company!

I have already dealt with the (not so) Brilliant support team. The support team may as well be robots. They don't read or address customer complaints and respond with cookie cutters. I raised this issue with two staff members, neither appeared to have read my complaint, nor address my issue. Anyhow, i have raised the issue with my bank because i have gotten no where dealing with brilliant.

Also i did not "accept any trial extentions" as suggested. That is untrue.

Thanks for following up and sharing your experience — I’m sorry for the frustration this caused. We want to clarify that charges aren’t made after a successful cancellation. A subscription remains active unless cancellation is fully completed before the renewal date, with pricing and renewal timing shown in advance during checkout and in account settings. In this case, the trial stayed active because trial extensions were accepted, so the subscription didn’t cancel and later renewed.

We understand how upsetting unexpected charges can feel, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. If you’d like us to take another look or have any remaining questions, our support team is happy to review things again and help clarify.

Scammy feel

Ridiculously hiding the price of the premium package even though they keep forcing it upon you. They keep advertising 30 days free trial and 20% discount on every step but not showing the actual price. Even when you get to the point of entering card details you still have to unhide the "details" to finally see how much they want to charge you. It all has a feel of a scam. I know it's not and it generally gets good reviews, and it's not actually a scam site, but if you've got good content you shouldn't be trying to hide the charges in such a scammy way. It just puts you off completely regardless of how decent the content may be. They won't see me back any time soon. Just can't trust them.

Awful company

Awful company. Emailed support within a few hrs of money leaving account explaining I did not want the subscription and was struggling to figure out how to cancel purchase. There is a right to cancel a subscription usually within 2 weeks, I emailed a few hours after payment was taken and they are charging the full annual fee, absolute rip off company

Signed up for an account to see what…

Signed up for an account to see what it's like and my inbox was flooded with emails daily. On top of that because I'd used social login the delete account wasn't intuitive at all.

Because I'd use social login didn't have a password set, however, you need to enter a password in order to delete your account. This summer waffle about being able to set a password in your social connection page whatever that is. However, it also told me that I wasn't connected to Google.

In the end, I managed to delete my account by putting a space in the password field. I didn't expect that this would work.

In the best case scenario, this is just poor Ux design, in the worse case an element of dark Ux was employed to make the account removal process unintuitive.

Brilliant have responded, let's see if they are comitted to solving the problem. What happens next will be quite telling.
