The frustrated old woman behind the desk was as rude a person I've ever met. The car they gave me was a battered old lump of crust, too. Consistent, I guess.

Shockingly rude despite being at fault

We rented a car from Malpensa airport for 3 days. The check-in was quick and easy: we were given the keys and told the car would be in a numbered bay. When we got to the parking lot,the bay was empty. We went back to the terminal to be "told off" saying we should have looked around for the car.
Half way through our journey we stopped on a rest area in the motorway to just realise the car did not close using the remote control or the key. We attempted to contact them five times before being able to talk to someone. They advised returning the car to the nearest branch, so we did.Once arrived no one had made contact with the other branch, so no cars were available for us to take. We had to wait for a car to become available and being cleaned. We wasted 2 hours, and had to cancel our meeting due to this. Not only we received no apologies from them, but we were charged 27 euros for the fuel and another 20 euros for various taxes when returning the car. When we wrote to them complaining all they could offer was a 20 euro voucher to use with them. Their email was aggressive and rude and they refused to refund any moneys we spent due to a fault that was entirely theirs.
Unbelievable - please use reputable companies

Rubbish company!

Rubbish! Their car they lent me had no coolant... Its lucky I noticed after 20 minutes driving and filled it up with water at the service station!

I reported this and they gave no recovery for what could have been a blown up engine!

Absolute unsafe company! Do not use them at all!

Noleggiare is cheaper and much better quality cars from Milan airport!

Scammers - charge for diesel after returning the car

Stay away at all costs, they scammed me for refuelling charges after I returned the car and will not correct it. I submitted a dispute within 20 mins of returning the vehicle since Aug 8 but they have not responded.

When you drop the car, they will scam you. READ WHAT YOU SIGN BECAUSE by saying diesel is full, and show you ONLY the signature area on their device, but you are actually scammed to sign your vehicle has no fuel.

My first hand experience: Returned my vehicle on Aug 8 to a budget employee named Fillipo with wavy hair. He confirmed and verbally told us the diesel is full and there is no damage. He scrolled directly to the signature area on his device and told me to sign. When I was going through security 15 mins later, I got an email saying I am to be charged for refuelling. I immediately opened a dispute ticket [TA150A82E] with them and provided evidence of paying for 40litres of diesel(full tank) less than 20 mins before I dropped off the car. I also mentioned they could literally check right now that the fuel is full but 2 weeks later, still no response and my card has been charged on Aug 9 for refuelling for a total of €116.54.

Does anyone know how I can charge them under any consumer protection laws?

I am sure Budget car rental is Number…

I am sure Budget car rental is Number one CHEATING car rental company in Italy...staff is very very rude.

Booked car through Rentalcars.com , fully paid well in advance, when try to collect the key no cars available as they let the car to their direct customer and i*d*i*o*t*s wasted almost 3hours to find alternate and finally given excuses by finding faults....trust these i*d*i*o*t*s never travelled overseas to realize how time is precious for tourist. I suggest people to avoid these kind of third rated companies and to look out standard rental companies

Terrible experience

We rented a car at Rome airport. We took pictures as suggested by the Budget employee when we got the car.We returned the vehicle in the same conditions as it was. We were charged $1600 dollars more out of our $600 dollar invoice. No explanation, no details, no invoice for these charges. We are assuming they charged us for the damages the car already had when we rented the first day. We called from the US to dispute this issue and we were charged for the international phone call . They don’t even have toll -free phone number and I was charged $72 by T- Mobile for the international call. They did not even found me in the system and told me that my reservation was cancelled. Very weird. What a lack of professionalism. Last time I will be using Badget. This is a scam.

Worth avoiding

Dealt with an unpleasant staff member (her colleagues were much more helpful) who first sent us to the wrong bay then forgot to give us the paper agreement to show as you exit the car park. Had to go back to the counter twice in order to leave the airport, even though there was nothing wrong with our booking.

The car itself was in bad shape (most issues were documented) but found the loose wing mirrors to be the most dangerous as they simply moved about as you drove.

Could have been much worse although will avoid using Budget in future.

Budget Milan is at your own risk!

I rented a car recently from Budget company in BERGAMO airport to be returned to Malpensa airport next day. I am a very frequent traveller and I have rented from different airports across Europe and USA. Therefore I am comparing this experience with previous ones. This company is a total scam. Renting from them is at your own risk and responsibility. I should have red the reviews before renting. I returned the car within working hours and there was no one at the drop office, I had to go to the airport to renting office where they told me to leave the keys in a box near the drop office. No one reviewed the car. Then I found they charged my credit card extra money for repair for car damage! After thousands of emails they send me a picture of what they called “Dent” and charged unbelievable amount of money for that! I was going to dispute that however after reading the reviews here I realised there is no point they are professional in what they are doing.

Budget in Bologna Airport feels like a scam

I'm a frequent business traveller, renting cars several times every month. This time, I rented a car at Budget in Bologne Airport, Italy through my Expedia account. Total price 378 EUR for 4 days (330 EUR in advance and 47 EUR for mandatory snow chains at pickup).

Due to change in flight, I arrived 4 hours earlier, and was okay with paying more for the 4 hours (in theory 1 rental day more). My complaint is, that I ended up paying 809 EUR total, so 114% or 431 EUR more. This is not in anyway okay.

What a joke of a company

What a joke of a company. The breaks started failing just before reaching our destination. Managed to park up and 24 hours later still trying to get hold of someone. Their roadside assistance number doesn’t work, neither, it seems, do any of their other contact numbers. Not sure how we are getting back to Malpensa airport or how much this fiasco is going to cost me. AVOID

Wrong charging cable, no support from Budget

At the Budget/Avis rental car at Malpensa Airport in Milan, I requested a car with room for a lot of luggage, and we were offered and rented a Jeep Compass 4XE, which is a Hybrid plug-in vehicle.

Unfortunately:

- The vehicle did not have an owner's manual in the glove compartment
- It came with only 2% electric charge on the big battery
- The charging cable provided was suitable only for home use
- There was no snow scraper provided with the vehicle, which mattered because we had three inches of snow on 12/31/23
- There was no windshield wiper solution

Not being an expert on hybrid plug-in vehicles, I was afraid that if the big battery went down to zero percent charge I would no longer be able to start the car. I called Budget Roadside assistance to ask this question, and was told I would have to research
it myself using Google, as the only "service" they could provide was to tow the car to Bolzano if it were inoperable.

When the three inches of icy snow came on 12/31/23, I had to scrape it off the windshield with a bedroom slipper, which was not easy to do.

Next time, I'll rent from one of Budget's competitors for a better and more relaxing experience.

Scamming by cowboys

Just don't bother ....please, please .
Never felt so scammed and cheated by a company as I have by these sharks . One star flatters this mob .
Handed keys to a car over to a car in cagliari Airport, in a dark covered car park that we queued over an hour for , no one was present to check this car over and off we went. We drove for 4 days , dropped the car back immaculate, fully fueled and had to endure this lady acting out an inspection and tutting etc . Once we asked her what was wrong she pointed to a 2mm scratch- chip on the windscreen that was so minute it wasn't noticeable but she insisted it would need the whole screen replacing. I work in the motor trade and said at worst this would be a repair if that , after half an hour deliberating she agreed it would be a repair which at most should be 75 euros , and they then proceeded to at 975 euros off my credit card that I didn't authorise . Scamming cupid stunts ... if it costs nearly 1000 pound to repair a windscreen I'm packing up and moving to Sardinia to open a screen repair service , I'm in the wrong business . We spoke to customer services once back in the UK and they was as helpful as a chocolate teapot . After looking through some holiday photos we've spotted that the world's tiniest £1000 euro chip was there in a photo taken shortly after collecting the car.. hmmmm potal tricks ... ( work that out ) so in short only use if you have a fetish for being ripped off otherwise save your self some grief and money and hire from anyone else but these budget cowboys . 🤠

Dishonest; Horrible Communicators. Charged $1,000 for damages without cause

My experience with Avis/Budget in Italy was absolutely infuriating. When I rented the car, there was already significant damage around the car, which was properly documented on the rental agreement. No damage was done to the car while renting it. Upon return, no one was at the counter to inspect the vehicle, and they required us to return the agreement with the keys. Shockingly, the next morning, I was charged me $1000 for pre-existing damage that was clearly documented. When I disputed the damage, they outright denied the damage on the agreement. This level of dishonesty and extortion from Avis/Budget is disgraceful. Avoid them at all costs.

Bad and frustrating experience in any aspect

Bad and frastrating experience in any way.
A frequent traveler, so I have a comparison point of view.
First - the service was one big mess. hours of waiting.
Second - we were given a malfunctioned car that broke, the response was not satisfying and we had to take a taxi on our expense to get back to Venice AP (250KM) and take a replacement.
The worse: we were charged on a significant amount without reason and without any notice. They did it because they can and may also and probably will do it to you too. be careful!!!

Honest car rental in Catania

I've read the reviews here and honestly was terrified to give Budget a go. There weren't many cars available in Catania Airport, but the one from budget was fair value for money and smooth experience.

They encourage you to take pictures/a video of the car when you pick it up and they are super honest about what scratches are present in the beginning.

I'd definitely hire from them again.
