Good experience- I would do it again

We got several emails and phone calls within hours of posting request for information. The company we chose (Move In USA) came and packed our things yesterday and did a great job packing. I can vouch for this because I have moved quite a bit. I would recommend the process and this particular mover with two small reservations.
1> We did not get any calls from major moving companies like United, Allied, Mayflower etc. That is OK. We had already gotten two estimates from major companies which were quite a bit higher.
2> The companies did estimates by phone- they did not come out and see the furniture. Although they gave a "binding estimate" we ended up having a 'discussion' about the price after the truck was loaded. So- just be careful and read the contract you sign! We got the move for the promised price so no real complaints. I have had the same issue with many moving companies before.

Easy and Great Prices

Getting a quote is easy and all the prices are up front, no shaddy business! The process was very painless. I didn't have much to move but I had a long way to go so I knew my situation was somewhat unique. They had several different services to offer. They were the first company I got a quote from and I thought the price was great. But, because I don't like to spend more than I have to I still got around 4 other quotes. Nothing came close to their low price for the exact same service. I haven't moved yet so I don't know how that will go. But, if my experience with the reservation team is any indication then I'm sure I'll be very happy!

Scammers

They gave me a quote which was pretty decent and I signed the contract. Two days later, while I'm driving, they call me saying they messed up the dimensions of the bookshelves and need to me log in immediately to accept the changes, otherwise the deal is off. I pull over and they pressure me into doing the whole thing on my iPhone. When I got home I read the new contract they made me sign - it was for 500 lbs less than originally agreed! Of course the weight of my furniture didn't change so when they picked it up I got hit with an overage. Total scam, stay away from them!

SCAM!!

This is a horrible company. It's sounds like a sweet deal on the phone but on pick up day, this will be said, "the rate may change due to the weight of your furniture". Be warned, the rate will change!! In addition to the new rate, my furniture came back damaged such as wobbly coffee table, entertainment cntr doors not shutting properly and dings/scratches here and there. Also, my furniture was delivered a month later. WTF!!

Go with Budget

From the start the customer service has been 5 star plus!!! I actually have moved twice this year, from Chicago to LA then to Phoenix and both times Ben in custome service helped me, he's an asset to the company! Then both times the movers they hired were not only detailed and thorough but like white glove. I am so amazed and half the price or more calling the big mover on my own. My furniture both times came within the week. They are perfect, try them!!!

Michelle Lasky in customer service has been very helpful, friendly, and professional, nice experience!

My move is not complete yet, so this is not a comprehensive review of Budget Van Lines, but I wanted to jump in to complement Michelle Lasky in customer service. I had questions a couple of days ago about some details of my move, and Michelle has been great in understanding my concerns, contacting the carrier with my questions and then calling me right back. She followed up today with a further email with more details. What a breath of fresh air in these days of all-too-common poor telephone customer service! Give this lady a raise!

Magnificent until delivery

To start off, the customer service I received over the phone before deciding to use Budget Van Lines was outstanding! They were extremely customer-friendly and answered all of my questions promptly. West Coast Movers arrived at pickup location a little later than expected, but they apologized profusely as soon as they arrived for their tardiness. They were very swift and careful in packing everything. They told me that I was welcome to sit back while they finished packing everything in my storage unit. I'm not one who can sit back and watch other people work, so I helped and they thanked me for my assistance. I had some really good conversations with these two movers. They explained everything to me in detail and were very prompt addressing any of my concerns. I would highly recommend using West Coast Movers if you're looking for assistance in moving. They are very professional and very friendly.
Budget Van Lines stayed in contact with me over the phone before, during, and even after my move, assuring that everything was taken care of in a professional manner.
My one and only issue with my service was the company they contracted out to to make the cross-country journey from Utah to Massachusetts - Smooth Movers. The driver called me the day before, spoke very quickly and had an attitude in the way he talked. He wasn't clear with what he said over the phone. The day he arrived, he said he would be at my new home in an hour. I rearranged my schedule so I would be available when he arrived, and then spent TWO hours outside waiting for him. When he pulled up, he said to me "As soon as I saw your place, I asked what did I do wrong?" I live at the end of a dirt driveway behind other houses. I planned on having them park their semi at the end of the driveway and I would load up my car, unload at my house, and then come back down for another trip. While this driver was backing down the street, I met one of my new neighbors who informed me that he was a truck driver and that semis backed down this driveway all the time with no problem. This driver of this truck stopped at the end of the driveway, got out and yelled at me that this was as far as his truck was going to go and that his responsibility was to carry my belongings 75ft, not even 1/4 of the way up my driveway. I explained that I would get my car and make trips and that offloading from the truck could be done right there so they wouldn't need to carry anything far. He continued to rudely tell me that he was only going 75ft and that was it. He opened up the back of the truck and my free-weights were scattered all over the back of the truck. I asked what happened to the container they were packed in. He told me that there was no container when he got them and that he wasn't responsible for it. I said "I know this may not be your fault, but I'd like to know what happened." He then told me that the way I had packed my weights was very very poor and that I shouldn't have packed them the way I did. In other words, he started changing his story. After a few more stories, I asked why all of the plastic tubs I had packed everything in were crushed and cracked. Again, he gets all defensive and again, nothing is his fault or his responsibility and continues to criticize me about how I packed everything and then he demands that I pay him. The driver's helper spoke hardly any English at all and wasn't much of a pleasure to work with, either. I was told later on that someone who was working at my house was sworn at by the Smooth Movers truck driver to get out of his way. I would never ever recommend Smooth Movers to anyone. Their customer service was horrendous and I would never wish the amount of disrespect I received on anyone!
Overall, working with Budget Van Lines was a pleasure until the delivery. I would recommend them under the condition that they do NOT contract with Smooth Movers again (or at least get rid of the driver that delivered my stuff).

happy with my move

I'm happy to have found Budget Van Lines to coordinate my move from CA to TX. I have moved in the past and it has been one of the most stressful experiences of my life so i was worried. The person I spoke to in customer service was very kind and followed up with me throughout the process. It really felt like they cared, and the movers were very professional.
