Very disappointed with Bupa. My husband and I paid for a couple overseas health cover for two years, but later Bupa told us his name was never included—despite us paying full fees. They also failed to... See more

Bupa deserves to go out of business vol 2
- The representative who I eventually was able to get in touch with said she cannot help me while I was overseas and asked me to let her know when I'm back in Australia because we need to call. We had been exchanging emails back and forth for a while, some of them quite lengthy.
I did let her know when I was back, but I requested permission to record the phone call as they had provided so much misinformation to me that I had no trust and confidence in them at all and wanted to have everything written down. I also questioned what it is that needs to be done on the phone and cannot be done via email, considering our previous lengthy email correspondence.
She then responded that she cannot speak on the phone if it's being recorded, so we continued via email. That means a phone call wasn't necessary and she could have helped via email, but didn't want to for whatever reason.
- So now I'm in a situation where the Bupa account I use on the app has the new cover and member number, plus I have the new member card and I've paid a year in advance for that cover. At the same time, they reverted me back to the old cover that has ongoing payments. I don't even know what would happen if I tried to go to a GP in this situation. My card probably wouldn't work since it has the new cover and new member number.
- I have not received the refunds from my claims. I have not received the refund for the fully paid new cover that they sold me then said I can't have after I had been on it for months (and they didn't even transfer me correctly). And I paid for a brand new cover at a different company.
It is such a mess and it is entirely their fault. They deserve to get sued.
One more time if you bothered to read this far. I can't stress this enough: STAY FAR AWAY FROM BUPA!
Hidden Costs
I’ve had an extremely disappointing experience with Bupa insurance. I opted for the Essential Lite Visitors Cover, paying around 200 AUD per month for a couple (2400 AUD per year), only to find out that the coverage limit is just 300 AUD per person per year. This is outrageous considering a simple blood test alone costs between 200-350 AUD! Essentially, if you need to see a GP, specialist, or require other outpatient services (like an ultrasound), you’re stuck with the full cost.
I eventually cancelled my policy, but not before I ended up paying over 500 AUD out of pocket for a blood test and ultrasound, because I had already used my 300 AUD limit on just one GP visit and one specialist consultation. As someone dealing with significant pain, I was left to suffer without adequate coverage.

Huge wait times on phone with multiple disconnects. My BUPA website has never ending login loop that goes nowhere
call time. wasted time
30 minutes waiting time just to follow something. i hope they will improve call time. good thing the service person luckily solved my inquiry.
Worst customer service and efficiency
Worst customer service and efficiency I have seen from a health company. I was with Bupa about 3 years through my employer. Long wait times on phones etc to get issues sorted. When I tried to leave it took Bupa nearly 3 months to provide a clearance certificate which is about 7 times longer that the statutory time of around 14 days. I wasted hours of time being ping ponged around the organisation. It turned out my old company needed to pay past premiums but did not find this out for weeks. My new health fund emailed and called about 5 times and had no response. After all this bupa had the audacity to try and offer me retention packages and wouldn't send me my certificate I eventually had one bupa employee take ownership for helping get my certificate despite it not being his job which I'm grateful for. I do not recommend Bupa.

Poor customer services and slow services
This was the worst experience ever. Customer service wasted half an hour asking countless questions just to verify my identity, only to tell me they couldn’t help. Instead, I was told to keep waiting indefinitely for the changes I requested long ago. The representatives seem to be just passing time, giving unhelpful responses and making the process frustratingly inefficient.
5 Stars – Outstanding Service from Bupa!
Bupa has provided me with exceptional support! Their customer service, especially through Facebook Messenger, was incredibly helpful. A special thanks to Amelia, who guided me through the process with patience and kindness. She made everything easy to understand and stress-free. The claims process was smooth, and I received my payment quickly. I truly appreciate Bupa’s efficiency and support. Highly recommend them for anyone looking for reliable health insurance!

Bupa a disgrace you have messed up my account in early Dec, 70 minutes online to have my accounts separated from my login, which is not what I asked for I have had two senior so called managers make appointments at set times for call backs to me and both have let me down. I was also promised mail out of claim form since Bupa's stuff up I cannot claim online this was last Friday no claim form has arrived and no call backs, and account not fixed. Claim is pre Christmas. Total disgrace, Hang your heads in shame bupa
misleading claim and complain system
awful experience with them and looking to switch to another provider

They keep me waiting on the phone for half an hour. Disgusting level of nonservice. They are toxic.
Worst customer service
Worst customer service! I can’t believe how rude they are! Waited half hour on the phone to speak to them to updated the expiry of my credit card and they accused me of not being the real customer and hung up the phone in my face. Disgusting service but you did me a favour because I will transfer my business to another provider.
Massive incompetence
I spent ages this morning trying to contact Bupa by telephone including a substantial wait. I was then offered a call back option but as soon as the operator engaged the call dropped out or she hung up on me. My original enquiry was very simple but since I I am unable to contact my insurance carrier despite making substantial monthly payments, I will be seeking another carrier.
Hands off - Be careful with BUPA
Luckily I had no insurance insurance case but the Service in finding out what my polica number is, already drove me mad.
If you have the chance to look for alternative coverage. Go for that. It could hardly be worse!
Worst pet insurance
Worst pet insurance. We changed from RSPCA (where they paid 80% of every claim) to Bupa as it was cheaper and we were Bupa health insurance customers. Thinking we would receive the same cover (was only marginally cheaper), we were shocked when after paying 10months of premiums we had 2 claims, both of which were totally rejected (ear infection and vaccine $250, and teeth clean and removal-$1500). What is the point of paying if there's no cover? Will be cancelling immediately.
Great customer service
Spoke to a Bupa representative by the name of DD and she helped me tremendously. The best customer service I have had in a long time! Great job
Refuses coverage - left me unable to get proper health services
I have been with BUPA for over a year. I had specifically discussed with the agent who sold me the policy my family history of gastrointestinal issues. They told me, "oh, you'll be covered for a colonoscopy and everything!" Turns out, the colonoscopy is the only thing they will cover. No coverage for blood work or CT scan related to digestive issues. No cover for any overnight stays while waiting to have tests done. No coverage for any medical procedures that are digestion-related. I was left with nothing but my Medicare to cover these details.
Honestly, do not waste your time with this company. They will select out what they are willing to cover at a time when you are at your most vulnerable. I will be switching to HBF or HCF immediately following my recovery.
Shit customer service
Shit customer service. Super offensive. I want to cancel my policy, they talked for about half an hour and didn't let me cancel.
Pet Insurance is getting incredibly expensive
While Bupa does process my claims quite quickly, I do find their fees to be incredibly high.
The premium for my Bupa pet insurance grows exponentially each year, not even close to the rate of inflation. I estimate maybe a 40% increase in premiums year-on-year.
Bupa pet insurance chooses to not cover pre-existing conditions of my pet...for life. So they know that I can't leave them, and come back to them later. They know that they can charge almost anything they want, no matter how little claims history I have with them.
I know I lose out each year to premiums and won't get my money's worth. But I also know that I can't cover the most expensive surgeries on my pet, no matter how unlikely they are to happen. Bupa knows that too, so they take advantage of this.
Pretty unbelievable that the only way…
Pretty unbelievable that the only way to send me a transfer certificate is by post.
