Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 114 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently noted that contacting customer service meant enduring excessively long phone queues and unresponsive online chats that frequently disconnected. Reviewers expressed immense frustration over rapidly rising monthly costs, hidden rules, and administrative failures that severely delayed their policy documents and transfer certificates. Some reviewers were happy with polite staff members who provided clear explanations, and a few also experienced a smooth and efficient joining process when first signing up. Others appreciated having access to specific coverage options like dental care despite the overall difficulties encountered with the company.

Keep getting cut off just when it's my turn after waitning for 30-60 minutes! And this is not once. I've been experiencing this more than 5 times already! Could only get someone to help when I visited the branch (also after waiting). Please do something about your call centre system.
I'm now waiting again while writing this

Worst customer service

Worst customer service. I just want to find out about a remedial massage in my area. Unable to just send messages online. Get prompted to basically do all the work yourself, which gets 'me no results found'. I don't know what I am paying for, rarely use extras as can't find providers and BUPAs customer service is not helping.

Currently researching other Health Insurance Companies. BUPA is expensive, cover is nothing special and service is non-existent. There is no reason to stay with BUPA

I had a blood test at my doctor's request and the result showed high creatinine levels, so the doctor asked me to do it again with a urine test. I followed the doctor's instructions and did the tests, and now Bupa doesn't want to give me my money back, because I had to pay for the tests and made the claim, they don't want to give me my money back. They said I have a pre-existing problem, which was discussed with my doctor and she said that this is not a pre-existing disease. I asked for a report from Bupa stating that I have a pre-existing disease, because I don't know that. They never answered me again, I've been waiting for 2 months and I haven't been able to get in touch! It's disrespectful to their customer, and they want to keep our money at all costs!

bupa is a fraud

due to high cover cost I decided to move to another health provider,
I contacted Bupa via email and WhatsApp in order to cancel my cover but both advised me that I have to call Bupa directly for this,
for two days trying to contact Bupa over phone but as soon as selecting the number for cancellation they put you on hold for hours, eventually able to get in touch by pressing the number for new member registration in order to cancel my order which I did!

Pay me my eligible refund

I have moved to another insurance provider.
BUPA advised I MAY be eligible for a refund. Nothing else... no next steps... no ... we will work it out and send it to you... nothing...
It seems this refund now has to be initiated by me manually ... but... surprise surprise ... can't talk/chat/email/contact them...
This surely has to be as close to defrauding me of my eligible refund as a company could legally get.
The reason why I chose to leave...No customer service whatsoever.

Useless

Useless - waiting for 57 minutes on the overseas number for the call to just cut off. That is one hour of my life i will never get back.

Furthermore the call back service offered on website is only for new business enquiries. What above existing customers that have been with you for 20 years that pay your bills?

Useless customer service as usual

Useless customer service as usual! I had one claim accepted, then the next one rejected despite providing identical evidence. The email is sent form an address that cannot be replied to so I followed the procedure, as per the email, to go to the complaints form. I requested someone email me S the complaints form did not allow uploads. I have filled out a form twice and received no contact from Bupa.

Still awaiting refund

Bupa were charging us, at the wrong loading percentage, for over a year and a half. I rang in September last year, to request they change it to 0%, and to update our clearance certificate, to reflect this. Finally, in February this year, they sent the correct clearance certificate (after several failed attempts, yeah they couldnt get it right) but I am still awaiting on 1.5 years of refunds. I had an extremely rude Manager call me four weeks ago yelling at me and asking why I "thought I was entitled to benefit" even though I am and Frank Health (my current Health fund) had already paid me the refund they owe me. The manager hung up on me and closed my case. I've rang a further two times and was told today, that my case had been reopened and once again escalated. I will have to wait between 16-19 working days to get a call back. The kind woman I spoke to was unable to get any management to clear up the issue. I'm tired, anxious and absolutely over this terrible company. All I ask is for them to send me the money I am owed... I'm not even seeking compensation for the 35+ phone calls I have had to make to them, since September last year. I'm also not seeking compensation from them for the angst they caused me at 6months of pregnancy, when they told me my silver extras cover was being made redundant and therefore I was not covered to have a baby... BUPA Health insurance is an absolute disgrace... I was also employed by them, at that stage. Never, ever, ever sign up with them.

Absolutely appalling service.

Absolutely appalling service.
Cannot give anyone a call to have a quick chat to resolve things.
Keep getting directed to chat via WhatsApp or the MyBupa chat function.
Been in the queue for both of those for more than 3 hours, only to be told that they are still looking at the information that I sent 12 days ago when it was meant to be resolved in 3-5 working days.
And the representative just types in monosyllabic responses but not being able to explain what that 'Yes' means.

Shop around, AI customer service sucks

I joined BUPA in Uk over 25 years ago and carried on in Australia – now over 21years. My family policy was expensive but you always worry about changing your policy. The premiums increased every year by 3 or 4 % but then Bupa contacted me a month ago to tell me they were withdrawing the product and they were moving me to a new equivalent product costing 9% more at $737 / month equating to paying 13 months premium on the old product. I looked elsewhere and decided enough was enough and cancelled and began with another company. I contacted BUPA through the app but was referred to a WhatsApp chat and / or a call centre. I called the call centre who after putting me on hold then said I could organize a call back – never happened. I went on WhatsApp several times saying I was cancelling and then organizing call backs which again never happened. Then I got a mail saying my new policy had started and I owed them a premium. I tried to contact them again but with no joy. Eventually I left a very rude and terse message for them on WhatsApp using an expletive as I thought the AI might pick this word up and notify a person. I was right, within 30 minutes I got another message saying “I can see that your cover has already been cancelled as of ‘date’ so, you can ignore any payment messages from Bupa”. BUPA customer service is all noreply emails and AI – you cant speak or contact a person. After over 20 years of being a loyal customer I expected better than this, they have turned me into a negative customer who very rarely writes in to complain about anything. The worst of it all was we would have kept going with them had they not withdrawn their product and increased premium by only 3-4%. I’m glad they did though as it forced us to look elsewhere and we are now paying 33% less than we were (or 38% less than the new premium) saving thousands a year – it doesn’t pay to be loyal, I’d advise every policy holder to shop around!

Sucks

I wanted to share some feedback regarding my recent experience attempting to change my policy. Over the past two weeks, I’ve tried multiple times to update my cover due to a change in visa status. Unfortunately, the process has been unnecessarily difficult and exhausting.

The in-app chat system required me to queue and book a time, but when an agent entered the chat, no notification was sent. If I didn’t respond within I guess 10 mins, the agent would leave, and I’d have to rejoin the queue and repeat the process. This process has repeated a couple times before I decided to use whatsapp chat instead.

tried using WhatsApp, hoping it would be easier with notification so I can pop into the chat when it was my time. While the interface was slightly different, the issue remained the same—agents would come into the chat, ask questions, and expect an response within 10 mins. If I didn’t reply quickly (even within the hour), the conversation would end (they would not inform me of them leaving), and I’d be asked to queue again when I replied. To make matters more frustrating, each time a new agent joined, it was clear they hadn’t reviewed the previous conversation.

This loop of repeated questions, abrupt departures, and lack of follow-through made what should have been a straightforward policy change feel unreasonably difficult. It ultimately led me to cancel my policy altogether, as I no longer felt confident I’d receive the support needed to make an informed switch.

If I could give minus 10 i would

If I could give minus 10 i would. I have spent about two hours on 5 different chats and two telephone conversations trying to rectify a mistake that BUPA made paying an invoice which I had already paid as my excess was not paid up yet. Each person told me a different story, The app told me I needed to pay so I did. I even had a "chat" before i paid and they still went ahead and paid it again! In the last call BUPA admitted they were in the wrong but they still want me to start calling around asking for refunds! Its your mistake you fix it. Appalling service.

Poor customer service

Poor customer service. I waited over one hour on the phone and still not answering. They cannot be reached! They keep increasing their premiums but their service is getting worse each year. Closing down their physical stores is not helping!!!! They dont deserve one star at all.

Customer service is impossible

Customer service is impossible. Over one hour on the phone to be given a contact email that was no longer in operation. Talked on their chat system, booked a return phone call for the following day. Waited for three hours, no phone call. Tried ringing, now closed for the weekends. Returned to chat which has been turned off. The only way to speak to someone for help is to phone and wait and wait and wait. All I need to do is to send a ducument to them which is proving impossible. If you want to wast your time join them but I suggest you go elsewhere.
