The bikes look great, but the app doesn't work

The bikes look great, and the prices seem attractive compared to Lime or other similar bike sharing schemes. However, the app appears essentially broken, and wouldn't allow me to register. It's a classic case of a potentially great product ruined by poor technology systems.

Update:
Since writing this review I was contacted by DB who explained that one needs a German mobile number to register. However, my rating remains 2* since this is not explained anywhere in the app or during the registration process. This means that visitors to Germany (like me) waste time trying to use DB bikes for tourism, when actually it's impossible for them to do so. I still think the bikes look great, and I'd love to have been able to ride one for a day.

The app is very bad results in high cosrs

The app is very bad. The manage bike option wasn’t available for a big part of our rental period. We had to lock the bike and just used the lock instead of the manage bike-pause option. That is seen as a new ride while we only actively end the renting at the end of the day. Now we are charged in total for €44 for 2 bikes for not even a full day. Customer support saying that when locking the bike you start a new ride and will not refund the extra charged costs

Wrongful invoice and no response

In 2020, I rented bikes from Nexi during a vacation in Hamburg, Germany. In 2024, suddenly amounts were debited from my account. At that moment, I was seriously ill in the hospital and was therefore certainly not on vacation in Germany.

I immediately had the amount reversed, filled out a contact form, and explained my situation. I received no response. Nexi subsequently tried several times to withdraw money from my account. Fortunately, my bank agreed to block Nexi. I sent several emails explaining my situation but never received a reply.

At a certain point, Nexi sent a message that I could no longer rent a bike because they had blocked my account until I had paid. I thought this would be the end of it but unfortunately, I received a new bill this week.

As a result of my illness, I am permanently disabled and can no longer travel far. I can no longer ride a bike either. I haven't been to Germany in years. I want Nexi to delete my account and remove my data from their database because my data is not safe with them. I have not received wrongful invoices from any other company.

Absolute garbage service

Their contract renews automatically, and when they failed to bill my credit card, they threatened me with collection, unless I immediately make a cross-country IBAN transaction. When contacting customer support, they just sent a canned response on how the contract is valid, nothing else.

SCAM SCAM SCAM

SCAM SCAM SCAM! DO NOT DOWNLOAD THEIR APP ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A TOURIST! They will keep charging you for 2 months after you request to have your account closed and leave the country! Extremely scummy practices!

If I could rate a zero star I would.

If I could rate a zero star I would. Accidentally got locked into a year contract trying to rent a bike on a holiday. Since I live in the US this service was useless and paid a monthly fee for a year. No one to talk to and email communication was a joke. My “ contract “ is almost ending so glad my bank account will no longer be deducted the fee

Don't use this service

Don't use this service. It's a total scam. After completing a seemingly endless registration process, I rented a bike in Berlin. After I had locked the bike during a short break, there was no way to unlock it anymore. I couldn't end my bike rental period either. Customer service could only be reached by mail, which of course is useless if you need them right away. Although I parked at a station, I ended up being charged for €14,- for a bike ride that lasted no longer than 15 minutes.

Do not recommend

The bikes were ok. However, the customer service was rude in communication. And also confusing inaccurate messages via e-mail. They suddenly charged me an extra fee of two 5 euro’s for when I manually transferred the invoice after a failed initial transfer. Recommend finding an alternative if you can.

THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WHEN THEY…

THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WHEN THEY TURN OFF THEIR INSTAGRAM COMMENTS. This is the worst experience with customer support and a company I have ever had. I live in the US and rented a bike while I was in Germany. I got an email after that my payment didn't go through even though I see it in my bank. They threaten to take further action if not paid so to avoid a headache I'd rather pay 9 extra euros and be done. BUT there is NO WAY TO PAY. The customer support team rarely replies and only does so with what seems like auto-generated responses. I recommend you DO NOT use. NOT worth it.

Cannot recommend it at all

Call a bike, as most Deutsche Bahn services, is of quite poor quality. For example the bikes will not unlock in 10-20% of the time, be not well maintained, the app is buggy/poorly designed etc. On top, they've dared to charge me 5€ for processing a declined payment from changing my bank account. I would recommend you to use Nextbike, which is way better - quality and value for money.

Total scam

Total scam. DO NOT USE. if you unlock a bike, realise it is damaged, and immediately relock it, you will be charged a rental fee. Then, when you take a ride, put the bike on pause and lock it, then subsequently try to unlock it, it will not unlock and you will be unable to end the pause or end the booking. Eventually, you will charged €20 and a full day rental fee for not returning it to a station. There is no customer service at all. No number to call. DB should be ashamed of themselves!

INCOMPETENT

We had an awful experience with multiple problems unlocking and locking the bikes. We were therefore incorrectly charged ‘location fees’ which were €10 each. We queried this and they still could not get the invoice amount correct. We therefore queried this again a number of times and instead of sorting the issue, they began adding ‘late fees’. Ridiculously incompetent customer service who just ignore you in the end!!!

Scammers

Scammers! I rented the bike 8 months ago and it had a flat tire. We took the bike back to the station where we got it from and then we filled up the incident form. After 8 month they sent us the bill 3.968 Euros!!! It is even higher than the bike. I'll sue them instad of paying this amount!
