Worthless Bait and Switch

I purchased a "Titanium Plus" warranty in July of 2021 to cover my wife's low-mileage 2014 Chevy Tahoe that we bought new. I made a one time payment of $2,678 for the warranty. Carchex assigned me to "American Auto Shield". December 2024 (well within the 60 month time period) My wife was experiencing a lack of heat in the cabin. We took it to our Chevy dealer which purchased the vehicle from and which we have done business with for centuries and gave them the warranty information. I then get a call from our mechanic telling me we need to have the radiator replaced and that they will run it through the warranty. I then get a call from American Auto Shield Representative telling me they WOULD NOT cover a majority of the cost for replacement of the radiator. He said they did not cover the cost of putting the Tahoe on a lift and the visual inspection needed to discover the cause of the problem. BULL Sh#t- how was the mechanic supposed to find the problem? He also claimed the part number for the radiator the mechanic ordered was not the right part number, claiming the part ordered had some type of dealership insignia. WRONG and a lie. There is only ONE GM part number for a radiator for a 2014 Chey Taho (I worked for GM and know this). A complete waste of money for this warranty. I paid for the repair myself and I never use or recommend Carchex for anything again.

Find that CarChex is the best of a squirrely bunch - they truly value customer experience

Find that CarChex is the best of coverage. Staff is great - I knew I had an uncovered event (rear view mirror came off) but I called to confirm and as I am away from home for two weeks asked for a recommendation for getting the repair done. The lady that helped emailed me five local shops. I have had a few claims (minor issues such as amount of time different between my shop and the adjuster, but all in all fair coverage. I hope never to use it but the peace of mind if I have a major issue lets me sleep at night. Not looking for a bargain, just fair coverage (plus the benefit of pooling risk, with the hope of never going into that pool). What I love (confirmed by call today) is that the staff is fantastic - and customer experience is their key focus

Took deposit & 2mo payments despite cancellation!

Gave them a deposit on warranty but had to cancel after car purchase fell through. Notified them in writing with receipt proof immediately in October. Notified refund of deposit. November charged me a monthly payment! Contacted help tickets said on it, no refund marked resolved. December charged AGAIN! Now $464 for a car I never owned. Dec said they immediately sent refund but it’s Jan 20th no refund still. Instead of next day which they should do out of shame & consideration of my experience they say “well mail can take 20 business days.” What?! Maybe via pony express or bike courier. No excuse for this. It’s theft and I’m furious as they don’t seem to acknowledge how unconscionable their actions are. Imagine their customer service on repairs if it’s this terrible. Avoid at all costs, basically stealing and dragging feet to return MY money.
Update: despite their reply, no one has contacted me. They lied to the BBB about sending a refund. Third time they said the refund was in process. They refuse to send a certified check via next day with tracking despite having my money since September! My February rent is due and I still have not one cent back. Adding insult to injury by lying & refusing to expedite making it right FIVE MONTHS later. Run from them. I warned you.

Carchex is the worst

Carchex is the worst. My vehicle has been sitting in automotive repair shop since 3/25/24 waiting on Carchex to get it repaired. The adjuster will not communicate with the repair facility. 9 months later my truck is repaired and now Carchex will not pay the bill. Now my truck is being held hostage until Carchex pays the whole bill not just what they think it should cost.

Original review - Unethical and misleading advertising, from a fundamentally unethical company!

When I purchased the policy, I asked the agent whether I could do any covered repairs at the dealership. The agent said "ABSOLUTELY!" What he did not tell me was that they will not approve original equipment (OEMs) or the labor rates of a typical dealership. They also "neglected" to let me know that they don't cover screws, hoses, and all sorts of auxiliary items that repair shops will not put back into the car in fear that they may fail.

When someone fails to highlight critical information, they "lie by omission". CARCHEX makes money when they DON'T provide service. They are not your friend. They are your adversary, who makes money when you end up paying out of pocket.

You THINK that you have coverage, but really you DON'T.

Save your money and the aggravation.

Have a 2014 F250.Milage dropped 3.5…

Have a 2014 F250.Milage dropped 3.5 miles per gal. Took it to the Ford dealer. Daid it was missing at gold start and warm running. Dealer said all 16 plugs, 8 coils and wires had to be changed, $3,300 including tax. Carchex won't cover it. DON'T BUY!!!

Can’t update your credit card info online and we’re almost in 2025 I should not have to call customer no service to do anything. Fix your damn site it’s only about $50 bucks a month to maintain.

Carchex was fantastic! I was having difficulties with information between my mechanic and the warranty company purchased through Carchex. I ended up speaking with a manager, Kent at Carchex. He went above and beyond and ended up being the go between to verify everything was covered and taken care of the way it was supposed to be! I can’t thank him enough!! 2014 VW EOS cooling fans not operating correctly, dealership recommending replacing the fans, Carchex said they would pay for a rebuild kit for the fans. The dealership also stated the stabilizer bushings are bad, Carchex only paid 20.00 for the bushings and half the labor. total repair was over 3500.00 Carchex paid 1,347.00. The dealership was told they don't pay new part prices, they pay used parts prices. I was told this from 3 different repair shops. I purchased the platinum package 60/60,000 contract ending in 11607. Hopeful

Well, when calling to price shop, got the standard "can't hang up" presure. Told if I didn't buy now, I would loose my fam/friends discount,since have policy already. Didn't make me feel like family saying that. However, they called back and droped price. $10.00 more than competitor, but deductible was better if I ever needed a engine or something. So, here I am now with two cars covered...you do the math, can't be that bad of a place...right?

No big hype or pressure on my taking…

No big hype or pressure on my taking out insurance with CarChex....I felt the other companies were more pushy....I am a little concerned with their payment of claims however....there are a lot of 1 stars....I read through their contract which provides you with a repair log to complete as scheduled work is performed. They also "suggest" that you maintain all receipts for work performed on your vehicle. I definitely suggest that you DOT EVERY I AND CROSS EVERY T when it comes to scheduled work you have done AT THE TIME YOU HAVE IT DONE. They are an insurance company and not a "sugar daddy." Their goal is to protect their interest and not yours....Just make sure you cover yours.

If I could give ZERO stars I would

If I could give ZERO stars I would. These people are frauds!! They’ve taken $850 from me and have denied two claims that should have been covered. The adjuster gave 4 different lies on record that myself and the car shop PROVED FALSE, then without an explanation refused the claim. I was on a three way call with Car Chex and the serviceman that was working on my car. These people are just taking your money and will not help you. Do NOT waste your time or money. You’re going to be paying the full cost yourselves in the end, and out the money you’ve paid them thinking you were being smart and protecting your wallet. I have contacted an attorney, and there’s PLENTY of lawsuits against them already for the same thing.

Short but pleasant experience

Called to get a quote for comparison purposes. Everything was clearly explained, coverage, cost, satisfaction guarantee, etc. Ended up buying the plan suggested because they have a 30 day money back guarantee and can cancel for any reason. So I figured I had nothing to lose, though I had concerns that they would make it difficult or inconvenient. Once purchased, they immediately emailed me the contract so I could read the whole thing. They were to follow up with a printed version in the mail. But, when I found out that the car I was buying still had factory warranty on it, I called them the same day to cancel, and they did so without complaint and were, in fact, very pleasant and understanding about it. I was actually surprised at how easy it was. Since it was the same day, they could just do it over the phone. If it had been sometime later, the contract calls for you to fill out a form for a written cancellation. Though I cannot speak to how well they do regarding repairs, I would consider them again if the need arises.

Very pushy sales; No OEM parts

Very pushy sales; they literally try to keep you on the phone till you sign up. Price went from 199.99 to 149.99 a mo. and I still said now and finally got off the phone. Another called the next day and dropped it to 139.99 and kept me on the phone for another 30-45 min. until I agreed to sign up. They said they had the best coverage of any of the others and that's why their prices were higher. Stating I drive a BMW and so I want the best coverage. Since you have 30 days to cancel I signed up to get them off the phone. I then called my BMW dealer and they said CARCHEX was one of the worst that they deal with... CARCHEX will NOT cover OEM parts unless there just isn't anything else available. CARCHEX will cover aftermarket, used, refurbished parts and if you want OEM then you have to pay the difference. I called CARCHEX immediately to cancel and give my reason and they agreed that they do not cover OEM and so cancelled the coverage. CARCHEX tends to mislead you also by pushing their BBB A+ accreditation but when you go to the BBB sight and read the reviews, there are a lot of 1 star reviews and overall I believe they were only 2 stars. DO NOT RECOMMEND unless you are good with non-OEM parts.

The salesman I talked to was Alex

The salesman I talked to, Alex, was great. He wasn't pushy or trying to sell me something else. He answered all my questions and was attentive to what I was looking for. They gave me a lower rate than Carvana offered, with more coverage on mileage and years. Their package even covered more items on the vehicle than the caravan top warranty. I would use them again on my next used purchase.
