WARNING! Misdescribed and Unhelpful
I recently purchased an 'Invincible' 1oz silver foil from Cardiff Gold. The item was clearly advertised as having a mintage of only 500. However, the item delivered is from a mintage of 1,000. In the world of silver collectibles, the mintage figure is the primary driver of value and rarity.
When I raised this with their team, they acknowledged the 'administrative error' but refused to offer any price adjustment or compensation. Their justification was that the value is based on 'intrinsic metal content,' which is completely irrelevant for a numismatic item sold at a high premium over the spot price of silver.
Furthermore, they were initially dismissive of my right to an insured return for misdescribed goods, which is a breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. While a return label was eventually provided, the refusal to take accountability for misleading advertising is a red flag for any collector. They also acted as if they were doing me a favour by telling me to initially return it at my own expense. I had to explain how consumer rights law actually works before getting anywhere. As a result, I have been forced to report this matter to Trading Standards and the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
Be very careful checking their mintage descriptions before you buy or preferably buy elsewhere, unless you are confident you have researched the item you are buying.
