Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 142 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers found the pricing deceptively expensive, with unexpected fees and high interest rates, especially if promotional balances were not paid in full by the deadline. People frequently reported issues with their accounts, including unauthorized charges, decreased credit limits without notice, and difficulties understanding how payments were applied to promotional offers. The customer service was a major source of frustration, with many describing it as unhelpful, difficult to reach, and staffed by agents who lacked understanding or were rude. Some people were dissatisfied with the payment process, noting that payments were often misapplied or that they were charged late fees for paying too early. Conversely, a small portion of people felt satisfied with the service, finding it helpful for medical expenses and appreciating the no-interest promotional periods when managed correctly.

Decrease in limit

I have had Care Credit for over 10 years. Never late on a payment. Always paid over the minimum. Gradually made my way to $11,000.00 credit limit over time. I log on today and see my limit was deceased to $1,000.00. They say it was due to non-use and that I should have received a letter. I did not receive a letter or warning. Them cutting the limit so drastically will destroy my credit score. Thinking about closing this card and applying to another company.

CARE CREDIT BIRTHDAY WISHES -- WORTHLESS

Just found out Care Credit socked an extra $1500 on a $2500 bill. The catch. We were never advised that we had a promotional balance. We pay online so we never got an actual statement. No one sent anything to advise the expiration of a promotion. They just upped the bill and payment and then ask us if we needed help keeping up with the larger payment. What a terrible company. These sap suckers should look at the Golden Rule when writing their fine printed policies. I will tell everyone about Care Credit... BTW, they didn't forget to wish my wife a Happy Birthday on the statement I found on their website. Birthday wishes along with an added $1500 con job are worth nothing.

I don't know where to begin...

I don't know where to begin! I had opened an account as a recommendation by my surgeons office to pay help pay down payment. They gave me $3500. limit. But I only Utilized $2000. I made on time monthly payments that were 3x minimum payment. I was almost done, then they hit me with a almost $2000 expired promotional fee. Shout out to Rocket money for catching it! I asked them to show me the proof of this promotional that they claim I was made aware of. They could not. They just extended a 30 day grace period instead to pay off the what was left which somehow jumped from $800 to $1900, again with no real explanation. They just kept sending me from Rep to Rep. Most Rude and some hung up on me. I finally called them from my bank, with bank manager on the phone because they were claiming that the account I was making payments from wasn't valid. Even though on my statements it showed being withdrawn. The Bank manager said that they would be reporting them for fraud and then that's when they offered to waive to some fees. We settled on paying the owed amount and closing it. Only to find out a few days later that they kept it open and charged me yet another fee. Mind you all this a less than a month. I called yet again, and the Rep had every audacity to say that they were being more than gracious to me for having waived fees previously. I reminded her that I no longer wanted this account open nor desire to do anymore business with them. I, again, requested a letter be sent to my email of my account closure or I was going to take them to court. She said she was not able to do that. That I could view it on the app. I said "on the app, you guys keep closing me out and have to call it to get it reset." I reminded her that all calls are recorded and it will prove their inconsistencies of misinformation and I that have witnesses and bank statements to prove it. She hung up on me and sent me a letter. I updated my bank on this most recent occurrence and they said they were going to report them. Like others, my credit score dropped but so did my blood pressure. Not worth it!

Worst credit card ever through…

Worst credit card ever through Sychrony. I had a 2000.00 credit limit for over 2 years. I always paid my bill each month early. Finally the interest they were charging me and the games they were playing with their promotional purchases were killing me. So I took out a small personal loan to pay off my credit cards and I paid the balance on this one of 687.00. Once it posted my credit limit dropped to 690.00. Nice way to treat a customer who always pays early. This also happened with another sychrony bank credit card I had with Belk Department store. 500.00 credit limit paid early every month never carried a huge balance. When it did get up to about 300.00 I paid it off and they dropped my credit limit down to 140.00. Stay away from anything that comes out of this bank. They also even charged me 6.24 for purchases made after I paid in full. They can stick this card where the sun don’t shine.

Incompetence and stupidity.

Yesterday 11.19.2025. I called care credit simply to get a card for my wife who is an authorized user on my account. Instead an incompetent agent closed my account. My wife had a dental appointment scheduled that same day. I never reported my card lost or stolen. Why would I order a card and then close my account.

0 out of 10 CareCredit is a JOKE!

0 out of 10 CareCredit is absolutely worthless.
I’m beyond pisssed with CareCredit after my latest experience. We make well over six figures, have multiple established credit cards, pay our bills, and needed a simple $1,500 approval to take our dog to the vet. That’s it. And somehow these people can’t manage to approve even a basic limit like that.
The whole “application process” is a 10 second joke, a couple of vague questions and an instant decision that tells you nothing about why you’re denied or how they supposedly evaluate your creditworthiness. It feels shallow, judgmental, and completely disconnected from real financial responsibility. You absolutely cannot judge someone’s entire financial picture from a bare-bones questionnaire, yet that’s exactly what they do.
In my opinion, CareCredit comes across as a money grubbing, out-of-touch service that offers nothing but frustration when you actually need help. When a company that advertises itself as a lifeline in emergencies can’t approve a straightforward, average limit for someone with solid income and credit history, it says everything about their priorities.
If you value your time, your sanity, or your pets’ well-being, stay far away from CareCredit. They failed when it mattered, and we won’t forget it.

Useless customer service

After spending hours today talking to FIVE agents (4 on the phone and 1 in live chat), after verifying myself repeatedly, after jumping through every hoop, I’m just told that they can’t give out the info that I’m calling for. Wasted the majority of my day on this. I was told they recently changed some policies. CHANGE IT BACK. And please train your people better. Ton of conflicting information and still zero resolution. Thanks a lot for spiking my blood pressure and adding to the health issues that I was trying to use the card for.

If I could indicate -3 stars I would do…

If I could indicate -3 stars I would do it. Do not for any reason go in to bed with this company. The terms of promotion changes when they feel like it and not when you sign up for the service. I was lied to about the terms of the billing and for 4 years I was still paying on a bill that I had paid off over a year ago. I was paying it by auto pay and told when the last payment came out of the account no other action would be needed from me. So for years I never received statements, but I was waiting on the shut off on the auto pay. So, when the payments got lower I was under the impression the end was near and everything would be done. I am in a dispute with them right now for over $2000 that's they took from me. Their excuse is that they change a promotion and interest rate on my plan but didn't communicate with me about it. This totals more than $700 per year just in interest and they said that I can't pay the bill off early because any payments will be applied to the principal interest on each month or year on the backend. So, in other words they want me paying them off forever. I'm seeking legal help on this matter and I would encourage the masses not to do business with Care Credit aka Synchrony Bank. Also, I believe a class action suit is needed and I'm willing to join the list of those impacted by these sharks.

Bad customer service and policies

If you have promotional and non-promotional charges, they make you call them each month to allocate your payment when the promotional charges are nearing expiration. They will pay off the promotional charge first if it is due in 2 months. You will be charged interest if you don’t call to allocate the payment. They will not waive the interest charge when this happens. Very disappointing customer service.

Expensive, deceptive, and poor web UX

It's touted as having "no annual fee" but they pop in a fee here and there just to administer the account so it's deceptively expensive unless you're able to pay off your entire balance in one go (in which case why would you have bothered to use the card??). Their website is a train wreck; at least a third of the times we log on to pay balance it circles and circles and will not let us on. Who has time to try three times in a week to simply log on and pay? If you have any other options, give CareCredit a miss, imo.

I made a Paid in full — yet still charged interest!

I made a final payment on June 10, 2025, to completely pay off and close my CareCredit account with CareCredit/Synchrony Bank. The representative confirmed my account would be paid in full and closed.
Weeks later, I received a new charge of $156.74. When I called for clarification, a representative named Sandra was rude and dismissive, telling me that interest would continue even after the account was closed — which makes absolutely no sense and contradicts what I was told when I made my final payment.
I paid the $156.74 under protest, but this experience has been extremely frustrating and unfair. It feels like predatory lending, keeping customers in unnecessary debt even after full payment.
I strongly caution others to think twice before using CareCredit or Synchrony Bank. They do not communicate clearly, they mishandle accounts, and they treat loyal customers with disrespect.

If I could give -5 stars I would. This place will suck you dry even after paying your card in full. I'm not going into all the details but this place is a scam honestly. They should be reported to the BBB. Pay your bill in full? They will continue to charge you interest for months. MONTHS

Most places

Most places - (Vets) don't take it now and they are like Citi bank will drop your credit limit without letting you know. I was always onetime and paid up and yet dropped it the limit when I needed it most. I refinanced my finances but paid off this still they dropped it. will never use it again!!!!!! And your customer service is in another country that does not understand English.

I thought this was supposed to be a…good credit card for pet expenses.

I thought this was supposed to be a good card for pet expenses since they usually offered a period of no interest with vet charges. However, in 2021 they changed my card to a Synchrony Master Card without my permission (all credit card companies send new cards when the previous one expires, etc so I assumed the newer card was the same). Now, the first card which they told me was closed, suddenly has a $500 charge. They refuse to take it off since no purchase of mine has been $500 and it is on a card that was supposed to be closed. They will get paid for that fraudulent charge when pigs fly

DO NOT TRSUT CARE CREDIT!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT TRSUT CARE CREDIT!!!!!!!!!!!
I was given care credit at the doctor and I was given a monthly payment amount of $65/mo to pay for the charges. I received no documentation, card, or anything. Last week they charged me an additional $500 in interest because apparently I if you don't pay it off in 1 year they will do that to you. No one ever told me. So this means I would have had to been paying them over $100/month. Then when they did this, they reduced my "credit line" to below $500 and reported it so my credit went down about 40 points. Then I had to pay off the FULL BALANCE, depleting my savings. SHAME on care credit for taking advantage of sick and disabled people in such a disgusting way. They are horrible humans.
