Managed by total morons at director level.
I have a VERY low opinion of the insrance industry from consistently being abused by the system which is failing the customer.
Halifax write to me with a car insurance renewal figure which is a 58% increase on last year and actually "Hope that you're happy" to renew another year.
Err NO.
I will now close all my Halifax accounts including my children's.

Unjustified £25 Admin Fee – Feels Like a Rip-Off

I’m really disappointed with Halifax Car Insurance. I recently took my private plate off and updated the registration on my policy myself through their online system.

Despite there being no change to the actual car and no manual work on Halifax’s side, they charged me a £25 admin fee just for the update. Frankly, it feels like I’m being penalised for doing the admin myself!

Other insurers like AXA offer this type of online change for free, so Halifax’s approach feels outdated and unfair. It’s frustrating to be hit with extra charges when you’re actually saving them work by managing your account online.

If you’re thinking about using Halifax Insurance, beware: the upfront price may look good, but hidden admin fees like this can really sour the experience.

Changing my address

Following my recent house move I contacted Halifax online to advise my change of address. I was told by the online chat agent, Georgina, there would be an admin fee of £25, that was OK with me. Then, there would also be an 'additional premium' to pay of over £600. My premium for the current year was only £326 which I had paid in one single payment in September 2024. So, this additional premium quoted was extortionate and absolutely unacceptable!! Georgina then searched for an alternative quote and this was over £2,600 for a policy with identical cover!!!! At this stage I was beginning to suspect I had logged on to a criminal website and that this was a scam. But no, this is the actual bona fide Halifax Insurance website and the prices being quoted are genuine. What the hell is going on? No-one in their right mind would accept these quotes. I have moved from Nuneaton to a new-build property in Chesterfield, I have not relocated to a war zone.
So, I chose to decline the ludicrous alternative policies offered by Halifax and found another insurer who easily arranged a new policy for me for £550.
All this just because I wanted to amend my address details on my policy. What an absolute disgrace!

Another bad review…avoid Halifax like the plague

Another bad review…being forced to cancel my car insurance due to their diabolical systems which can’t find the car I’ve bought, whereas comparison sites have no trouble. Of course I’ve several months left of my policy but due to cancellation fees for x,y,z I’ll walk away with virtually nothing, all because ‘computer says no’ and anyone that you speak to has no knowledge of how to resolve. In this day and age the tech is supposed to help not hinder, why is this so frustratingly, ridiculously crap and useless. Good customer service does not exist anymore, only Amazon seem to get it right these days. Avoid Halifax like the plague.

Absolutely useless !

Absolutely useless when it comes to a claim. They do not communicate with you post accident. You are left in the dark and they fob you on to other departments or partners for answers. So you end up going around in circles. Their feeble excuse….we are the brokers.

WARNING TO AUTO RENEWAL CUSTOMERS!

WARNING TO AUTO RENEWAL CUSTOMERS!
Never accept the figure quoted in these emails and always check comparison sites. After contacting customer service my initial quote was revised DOWN four times, including a call on the day my new policy started. Far better to opt out of auto renew and make a note in your diary instead. People are being charged top rates if you accept quote and do nothing. When I put my details in on a comparison site, low and behold the quote was lower than what I am paying now. This only shows new customers are being offered exactly the same policy cheaper, ignoring current consumer law.
Tanya at customer service was particularly helpful and courteous.
I will be contacting the FOS regarding unfair practice.

Poor service

After not receiving any information about renewal about my car insurance through post or email I received a email at 6:30 on the 15th of February to tell me that they will be auto renewing it which I had no information about so I looked elsewhere for car insurance and when the email come through it was too late to cancel so hopefully I will be able to cancel tomorrow morning when they are open. Their service is absolutely terrible and communication is nonexistence.

Happy to take premiums until you have a claim

We live in a very remote area (10 miles from nearest small town and 80 miles from larger town). We have always taken and paid for the courtesy car option as we would be stuck without a car. Halifax have always been happy to take our premiums without a qualm.

Until you have an accident, then you get told that you have to deal with their underwriters (Aviva). Now we have been informed that they do not have anybody in the area to repair our car and we will need to source a garage.

As for the courtesy car, well it's been a week and we are still waiting. Apparently their contract is with Enterprise (who have been great) but have been informed that we need to sort it ourselves, if they don't have a car available then tough.

I have pointed out that they have been happy to take our money over the years, believe me we don't get reduced premiums but we are getting a reduced service. Was even told that "a courtesy car is only if one is available". But we have paid for that service.

Our payments and therefore contract is with Halifax, not Aviva or Enterprise. What exactly are we paying for? when we are having to deal with everything. Absolute joke for service.

Halifax insurance rip off

Rubbish customer service, rip off prices. Please avoid this company for car insurance. These people use Ageas company and even the ageas company is big time rip off. I had very bad experience with these people. Review date is 24/12/2024. But i had bad experience with them since December 2023.

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE CAR INSURANCE CLAIM

Beginning to regret taking out car insurance with Halifax. Vehicle ran into the back of my car last week. I Informed Halifax and then I was bombarded with emails from various companies regarding my insurance claim. I have no idea who these other companies are, very reluctant to speak to them as I don't know if they are legit. Can't get hold of Halifax car insurance. First time I have had to make a no fault claim on my insurance. Having a really stressful, bad experience. Beginning to regret changing my car insurance over to them.

Increase in premium for getting married

I received my renewal and I rang to update my name, after marriage. They've increased my premium by more than £220. I was quoted £462 and now they're asking for £684. Absolutely ridiculous

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would. Halifax happy to take money but if any queries they claim “we are just the broker”. Asked for some proof for new insurance company on 3rd Dec, they said would send across to me and call me back. Both of these things didn’t happen, I have called again 8th Dec to be told call insurance company yourself or we can put a request into Admin for a letter (only need a note so an email would suffice), was told can request a letter that will take 10 days.
So glad I didn’t renew with Halifax as car insurance isn’t their strong point as they are only a broker.

Horrid experience

Horrid experience. High quote for renewal. Higher again to renew.
Comparison gave a cheaper quote than one quoted by Halifax.
To call and take that one. After speaking to 4 people and over an hour of trying. The phone put down!
Shocking service and totally unable to renew to restart.
Well silly to lose business to elsewhere. But there you go!
How many customers must they lose on this process? As no one could help.

TICKER for new drivers, not these cowboys!

My daughter passed her test and I wanted to remove her from my insurance. They wanted to double my monthly premium to completely take her off. Where is the sense in that? Customer service is absolutely diabolical. Basically that's how it is, and If you can't pay, they just cancel your insurance without notice or email. I joined Ticker insurance instead. Amazing for new drivers!

If I could give no stars I would…

If I could give no stars I would absolutely awful customer service, I spoke to a women who laughed at me when I was trying to explain that I didn’t receive the letters saying my policy had been cancelled, this happened twice as I set up a new direct debit but was not informed that the direct debit was not set up properly an issue between my bank and Halifax apparently nothing to do with me, I was not informed off this until I received a text saying my policy had been cancelled the day before and I had used my car that morning to get to work, apparently I was sent letters which I did not receive, when trying to explain this to the women on the phone she laughed at me and said “let’s get this straight you got the letters” after be berated I had to pay a fee to re estate my policy and a cancellation fee as I was at work and needed to use my car to drive home I didn’t have time to look into other insurance , I complained to customer services and it took weeks for someone to get back to me I was told I would receive a called within 48 hrs this did not happen after a few weeks, I received and email giving me £20 refund! Absolutely shocking

Find An Alternative!!!

If ever there was a case for a zero stars review this company should be made the exception.I cancelled a policy and had to pay 6 months for the privilege. Then they came after me to pay for 12 months on an already cancelled policy.Halifax Online should be given an award for incompetence. So Halifax Online,I am starting action in the County Court (Small Claims Division) for recovery of the 6 months overpayment and I'm reporting you to the police for Harassment.
