I urge you to avoid this awful company

After fraudulent action on my credit card I tried calling to sort this out at 01.00am on a Sunday morning and had to wait 45mins for anyone to answer the phone. Half way through the conversation ( the process of which was vitally important to my card security, or so I was told ) the line went dead.
The incompetence of the staff in customer relations is appalling and an insult to anyone's intelligence.
Some FAT CAT boss is somewhere counting his cash while poor slobs like myself are ignored and treated like garbage day in and day out.
I hope whoever has my card details spends on it freely and Halifax can pay me back out their own pocket. It would serve them right.

Most unhelpful. Total rip off

Tried to add our sons who both have full no claims, neither have any convictions or penalty points and one is a driving instructor. Halifax said they couldn’t provide temporary cover or update the existing policy. They were able to offer a completely new policy if we paid them around £450 pa extra. Total rip off!
Cancelled with Halifax. Went to LV where we got our sons added and insured or second car for less than we were already paying Halifax

Considerably out of pocket

Awaiting a resolve on my claim; underwriter are going for non fault but it's in dispute. Called Halifax today to change my insurance over to a new (smaller, smaller engine size) car which I am picking up tomorrow. My insurance isn't up until March (6 months to go) but they wanted to charge me an additional £1300 to insure the new car. When I asked to cancel, the telephonist told me it was "GOOD NEWS" as I didn't have to pay the cancellation fee and would be refunded £10 for the extras I had purchased. Couldn't be more insulting.

What's worse, is I've had to take a new policy out as a 'fault claim' as my current claim is unsettled. I also pay extra for guaranteed courtesy car, and as my car has been deemed a total loss, I was issued with a car for up to 28 days. However, i was told I had to return the car after 10 days as I was leaving the country for 7 days for a holiday. I was assured that I would be able to recieve a courtesy car for the remainder of the term when I returned, but despite the operator assuring me that she would put a note on my file to make it easy for me when I got back, she did not, and the last I spoke to (on Thursday, it's now saturday) told me she would call me back the same day to confirm that I could use the remainder of the service, I have still not heard back about this.

I will be writing to the complaints department, and the insurance ombudsmen if needed to reclaim the 7 months insurance I am owed - I am now significantly out of pocket due to this. I would like to point out that even if settled as a fault claim, and my car was repairable, Halifax would have continued to insure my car at no extra cost for the remainder of the year policy, for which I paid in full.

It's a shame, because up until the change of car request, the staff I had spoken to had been nothing but polite and helpful. However, I can't help but feel as though I've been totally let down by Halifax.

Would give 0 stars if I could

I don't normally do reviews, but genuinely felt the need to want people away from Halifax insurance. I had the misfortune of being in a car accident because of an insane driver. From start to finish, the process was dreadful and added to the stress no end.
- Claim experience was a web of third parties, no clear communication, and constantly discovering they'd forgotten to do key tasks (e.g. forgot to pass on critical evidence to the other side until we rang weeks later to ask for an update)
- Eventually the liability was established and my claim paid (approx 2 months later).
I thought I was finally free. Then another month later, get threatening letters from Halifax saying I owe them money and will be instructing debt collectors. No explanation as to why, and clearly it made no sense based on full liability being established for the other party + written confirmation my no-claims was not impacted. Their recoveries & claims team were incredibly rude, had no interest in resolving the confusion and simply said the letters would keep coming until i paid. Eventually the underwriter helped me resolve and spoke to Halifax on my behalf because I was incredibly distressed after weeks of threatening letters with no route to resolution
- Finally, I thought I should give Halifax formal feedback on how bad the process has been so other customers don't face the same experience. Guess what.....they've passed me on to a third party to manage the complaint! almost laughable at this point

Don't even deserve one star.

Don't even deserve one star.
Don't update records. Don't record vital information when you ask them to. Webchat useless and giving out false information. Refused to reinstate a policy after a missed payment even though they refused to speak to the named driver the day before to take payment. Then tell me they will look into it in next 48 hours and then could reinstate the policy. What use is that!!!! They expect me to wait with no insurance

Renewal hassle

I insured my car with them for a year, and the renewal quote looked ok in comparison with other companies. I went to renew online, but got a message saying I could not, so I telephoned and they upped the renewal quote by 25%!! Never again.

I bought a car insurance from Halifax…

I bought a car insurance from Halifax on 2/7/24, my mistake I entered my DOB wrong, June instead of September When I rang them about that on 4/7/24 they said that because of this the premiums will go up by £30 a month!!! So I cancelled the policy and when I reapplied they quoted me twice as much as the previous quote that was done 2 days before, absolute joke!!!!

Poor customer service

Since my father passed away I have dealt with any car maintenance/ Tax / insurance/ MOT for my elderly mother.
My mother has been a Halifax car insurance customer for around 3 years but this year it went up by £170 so I got other quotes which were better. I went onto the Halifax website & logged in where there is a facility to cancel auto renewal, only to find this is disabled during the the renewal period (1 month), this is the period when you are most likely to want to use it. I then tried to use the chat, the advisor wouldn't let me cancel the renewal because the policy was in my mother's name, even though I set it up. An adviser earlier in the day had no issue discussing mother's policy & insurance premium so unsure why this individual wouldn't. My mother doesn't live with me so not convenient to be in same room for authorisation.
Surely I am not the only one in this country who may be required to handle their families affairs.
I felt the atmosphere of the "chat" was just obstructive & Halifax needs to review a few things.
Quite simply I will avoid Halifax for any insurance products in the future.

Avoid this company like the plague

I was with Halifax car insurance for one year, I went with their car insurance as I have been a Halifax bank customer for years and had good experiences with them. BUT their car insurance is terrible, I was hit my a car last year not my fault. The initial claim telephone was fine but after that all went down hill. It took the other driver 7 days to claim fault. Halifax did not chase up the claim even though I rang numerous times. I rang over 7 times to organise collection of my car for repair. In the end I was told by customer service to arrange collection myself as it would be quicker! Once the car had been collected Halifax tried to arrange another car for me with Enterprise but Enterprise could not get me a car as I drive with adaptions as I have a disability. I explained this to Halifax and ask to be compensated for my travel expenses as I had to use taxis ( can't use public transport due to disability). Halifax said no as they had offered me a car and it's wasn't their fault I couldn't use it.
Then to try to find out the status of my car repairs I rang 8 times and was moved from department to department with no one knowing what was happening or even seemed bothered. It was only when my father A MAN rang that he got a straight answer to what was happening with the repairs. I had to use my own funds to pay for the car to be repaired initially then Halifax paid me back, which I found very strange and inconvenient!! The car was returned not repaired properly so that was yet another day without a car. The car was finally returned after 3 weeks!! When all the worked need was a new bumper and lights replaced. Halifax then said to be reimbursed for my travel expenses I could go through the legal team and they could get them from the at fault driver. I doubled checked three times that as I had Halifax's legal cover I could stop the process at anytime with no further cost to myself. They said yes, then the legal team got involved I had to go for a physical assessment at a doctor's who said I had no injuries which I never said I had as I was claiming under financial loss and then the legal team said I would need to go to court to state my case and then tried to charge me more money for the work done so far. When I said I wanted to stop proceeding they said I would have to pay for the work done so far even though I had legal cover through Halifax ( something I asked Halifax before starting this process to make sure wouldn't happen) . It was only after I explained I was 7 months pregnant and all of this was causing great emotional and physical de-stress that the legal company backed off. I was never compensated for my travel expenses.
DONT GO WITH THIS INSURANCE COMPANY, they lie, they discriminate against a person with a disability. They completely didn't care that they were causing a pregnant women de-stress or physical pain. Also you will spend hours on the phone getting no where. PLEASE DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID.

Would be zero

Would be zero. They took all the details of the accident then after 2 weeks of hearing nothing I had to contact the policy company myself. They weren't even aware of the accident. Halifax hadn't forwarded any details too them. So had to start again. They are just a broker using Overseas phone operators. Take my advice use a proper insurance company not a bank

Needed to adjust my car insurance…

Needed to adjust my car insurance policy to swap the main driver after realising that I had done a quote under the wrong name. They were great. Premium increased but they price matched based on initial premium I was given. The people I spoke to were patient, explained everything clearly and did exactly what they said they would. Gave me the confidence should I ever claim that I would get the same excellent experience. Top job!

Halifax

Cash back extras, Halifax credit card and Halifax online banking 3 things I’ve complained about.
Cash back extras I paid through bookingcom clicked on the link that said 4% cash back in December 2023 and got nothing back so I phoned and they said oh really sorry but you’ll have to wait 90 days, Margaret Littlejohn phoned me today 16/04/2024 and said we can’t find the transaction so I said ok I’ll find it for you, 12/12/2024 £190.49 I said and was it through bookingcom yes I said oh you didn’t press the proper link 🤷‍♂️. But I was told it was 90 days now it’s the wrong link? On march 1st this year again I paid for holiday extras airport parking and it states 4% cash back on Halifax but again I’ve received nothing and as explained to me the 90 days was only for the first transactio any after tha will be month by month.
I complained about my Halifax credit card as I purchased a pallet online but only received a Jiffy bag through my letter box with AirPods worth about £5 yes it was hilarious but left me with a bill of £40 plus pounds and I gave them all the relevant information they got back to me but then nothing and that’s over 1 year ago.

Online euros I couldn’t get them and my wife couldn’t either on our joint account and again I complained but never heard anything back.

Car writtten off experience

My car was recently written off in not my fault accident Halifax have been so kind and efficient Can’t thank them enough
Further to this review all went well until pay out time I’ve spent ages on the phone to different companies and finally getting an answer the payment comes in two halves Also because they are upping my insurance to a ridiculous amount I have to pay 60 or more for the privilege of cancelling Was told I can’t transfer the insurance until they get their payout from 3rd party Anyway now gone with new insurance company Be sure to ask questions regularly because they don’t give enough information
Unfair for an accident that wasn’t my fault !
I always say what my father said Even Dick Turpin wore a mask !!!

Customer service or lack of it

I've been with the Halifax for many years as I use their clarity card on my many trips aboard. I always pay the amount off on or before the due date and my most recent one was for over £ 1100. I was surprised to see an interest charge of £6.03 so looked into it. It's only a small amount but I was curious to see why. I contacted them using their contact icon but it sent me to their IA computer whizz kid who couldn't work out that I asked about interest charges even though I'm sure many peoe must ask. I then telephoned to be told that nobody was available. The Halifax must be the only bank you cannot email or leave a message. I'm sure I'm not on my own with all this technology and I'm quite computer savvy but an honest one to one with a friendly person who can explain things wins every time. Shame on you Halifax
