NEVER auto renew your car insurance

I have Halifax car insurance, and the policy renews on 3 January. On 3 December, Halifax sent me an email with a renewal quote of £1581 for the new year. As this was more than 3 times what I was paying for the current year, I did a search for insurance on one of the comparison websites. I was careful to input the same details.
When I got the results, guess what?
There was Halifax, sitting amoung the cheapest quotes, at just £606 for the year!
So Halifax had invited me to renew at £1581, when they would sell me exactly the same car insurance for just £606 through comparison sites.
It's not illegal, and maybe common practice. So, based on my experience, my advice is NEVER auto renew car insurance, and ALWAYS check comparison websites.

Wont be choosing Halifax car insurance again!

I’ve had my car insured with Halifax for a few years. My recent renewal quote was due to increase my premium by 25%! I have over 9 years protected No claims.. Reading other reviews it does appear I got off lightly, but it’s hardly in line with inflation.
When I rang to discuss this with an operator, she went through all my details and amended that I am now retired and no longer use my car to commute to work, My premium was recalculated, a named driver was removed and hilariously the quote increased by a further £100 pa!
Discrimination I can’t help but ask?
Needless to say I politely made my feelings known, shopped around and found a quote 50% cheaper…
Shame, they’ll not get renewals if they continue to be so greedy & lose safe experienced drivers that are not on the junk heap yet! 😒

Rude staff

Rude staff, talk to you like you're bothering their day. The put my premium up by over £100 because of a non fault accident by a shared policy holder from 3 years ago. I cancelled it and went elsewhere and it was £200 cheaper. AVOID.

When do I hang up?

Wife's car stolen so called and made the claim.
They then pass claim to Ageas and wash their hands of it.
As I write this I have been on hold for over 2 hours, after not being able to get through yesterday.
When do I hang up?
If you want cheap insurance go with Halifax but if you are 100% sure you will never need to claim.

Utterly disgraceful experience.

I have been a halifax customer for over 40 years in some shape or form. The lack of respect and misinformation I was given when reporting a no fault accident was staggeringly disappointing. I was an innocent party in a hit and run accident and halifax have successfully made ME feel like the criminal for having the audacity to contact them. I will never, ever use halifax again for my car insurance and if they would like to contact me further regarding this they are most welcome. However, I suspect they have no interest now I am no longer a customer. Halifax, I challenge you to do better because on this occasion you were awful, and shockingly so.
I have only awarded them 1 star because there was no option to award any lower.

It was my worst experience ever

It was my worst experience ever, very hectic and hard time. I am still going through this as it is not sorted yet. I bought my car insurance through Halifax and when an accident happened, I called Halifax they took all the info and then connected to AXA as in fact AXA was the main insurance company and Halifax was a broker. AXA took all the information again and then connected to another company VIZION for a repairer arrangement and this company was unable to find any repairer and their customer service behaviour was so bad they talked so rudely and did not help at all just asked to wait and wait. I wasted my 2.5 days of work time to sort this out. Then I requested AXA If I can find a repairer myself as VIZION failed to do that which they allowed then I had to spend a lot of time finding a repairer which was not my job actually VIZION had to do. Also I should have a courtesy car as it was included in my insurance but no one cared they didn't provide me courtesy car. So overall very bad experience so far, car is in the bodyshop and I am without courtesy car. Even I complained several times but no one even replied. Not happy with the customer service of VIZION and AXA plus Halifax and no one is taking responsibility.

Stay away

Had a no-fault claim while on holiday (car ran into ours at airport car park - admitted fault). Car was not driveable and car hire arranged.
Reporting the initial incident was fine, collecting the car hire was relatively fine.
Since this however I kept get passed between Halifax, Enterprise, Carpenters, the repair shop and IMS with no one taking any ownership of the issue. There are so many layers of companies they just pass the buck.

If you go with Halifax, I would advise to arrange your own repair, as at least you have single ownership of the issue.

Halifax Car Insurance Expensive Quote

I have done my car insurance through Halifax for a couple of years. I just went to renew it and update a few details and the new quote came back at almost £3000!!! The deciding factor that seemed to increase it so drastically was the fact that I am a university student! When I said that I wouldn't renew it, I was given no choice but to cancel it on the spot because of the updates, and I was left frantically trying to find insurance elsewhere to start from today. I must say that the guy I spoke to on the phone was very polite and understanding which is their only saving grace. Thankfully I've found some elsewhere for a much more reasonable and expected price of about £700. Halifax were way above everyone else with their quote. It feels totally unfair to students seemingly because of the stereotype about student behaviour, which is a sweeping, inaccurate idea. Nobody should have to pay that much for their insurance, especially not a student who can't afford it. Bloody ridiculous. I don't normally write complaints but I'm so annoyed.

The most unhelpful and arrogant peope…

The most unhelpful and arrogant peope i've ever dealt with. I have recently changed insrance companies from Halifax so requested confirmation of my no claims bonus i had accumilated with them. The proof i received from them had 6 years missing upon contacting customer services they refused to update it claiming they only recognise there miximum of 9 years. To make matters worse i told te i would access the information from my online account to retrieve the origianl proposal form i submitted but my account had already been deactivated. i lost 6 years ncb but you could lose a lot more

Car insurance policy renewal NOT shown on their own system!

I tried to report and make a claim on my car insurance policy and was told I was not covered! The insurance was automatically renewed nine days previously, monies taken from my account and I had received a confirmation email with my new policy etc etc. I was told by the person at the call centre that this is quite normal when a policy is renewed! I had to stay on the line while they tried to contact the customer support team. After 20 mins I was told they weren't answering the phone and they were not allowed to phone me back once checked and confirmed? So I had to temporarily record the claim with the call centre operative although she couldn't raise the claim until my policy renewal was confirmed! Then mid way the line dropped out - I was LIVID! 30 minutes completely wasted, I was stressed enough at the time without having to prove I was actually a valid claimant at the time. I have now decided to bypass the company all together and pay for the repairs myself. This is the first time I have tried to claim and what an introduction!; the system is absolutely useless, I certainly shall not be renewing with the Halifax again and certainly wouldn't recommend anyone else to either. It seems to me they are quick enough to take your money; the system should automatically be updated when a policy is renewed - it's a total farce!

AVOID if you plan to change vehicle during policy

Have been with Halifax for years. When I went to change my policy to add a new vehicle my policy rate tripled. Asked if they could match the more competitive rate i got elsewhere and they then gave me an even higher policy quote. Had to pay £86 to cancel a policy with 6 months left. Joke. Avoid at all costs

STAY AWAY

STAY AWAY, THEY ARE THE WORSE

I had obtained an insurance policy for my Land Rover Sport. After receiving a quote on the uSwitch website, I found that Halifax insurance provided the most affordable option, so I decided to accept it. I promptly signed up for the policy and made the full payment on the same day.

Unfortunately, I recently received a notification from Halifax stating that they have canceled my car insurance without providing a proper reason. According to them, they made an error in quoting me and attributed it to a technical problem. They informed me that they would terminate my insurance and advised me to call them again to obtain a new quote. It's important to note that this cancellation occurred a month after I had initially accepted their offer.

180% increase on previous year for same car

Sent a renewal cost for the same car as the previous year rising to £655 from £355 & they had the cheek to ask if I’d like to auto renew !!. Went elsewhere, got free cinema tickets too for £327. Will never use a Halifax “broker” insurance ever gain

Avoid they take your money then rip you off

My husband bought a new car and tried to change the insurance details online. Their sight wouldn’t deal with it so I phoned them. They said they couldn’t put it on his policy so he would have to take out a new one. The new price was exorbitant so he cancelled the original policy which had 3 months to run. They took the refund that he should have received for the last 3 months of £50 to cancel the policy. I never dreamed the Halifax was such a greedy company.
