Shocking service for vulnerable customer
My 19 year old daughter had an accident and the car was declared undrivable by Halifax. We explained to Halifax and the underwriters that she needs a car (courtesy car included on policy) to take me to medical appointments 30 miles away as I have cancer. Despite being told this, their process is not to offer a courtesy car until the repair centre have assessed the car and provided an estimate. The repair centre cannot collect the car until 9/6 and there is a backlog so don’t even know if or when parts can be obtained due to Brexit and Covid! Insurance is supposed to help you out in an emergency (amongst other things). Come on Halifax! Surely you have a vulnerable customer policy in place and means to escalate in extreme circumstances. The stress and upset you have caused us is inexcusable!
Don’t trust Halifax insurance very unprofessional their customer service very poor and liars and not supportive

Left oblivious of right hand
Halifax bundles a bunch of services together and makes no effort to join them up. My car had a fault that means it is no longer driveable. After 6 weeks, the claim is still unresolved. Meanwhile the courtesy car is unavailable after 28 days leaving me carless and with a non-functioning car on my driveway. What is the point of paying for fully comp insurance if I am carless? Have had to hire a car and now out of pocket.
The most frustrating aspect is the pathetic communication and organisation. In order to submit a claim, one must acquire a PhD in the inner workings of Halifax, as they apparently have no clue about it themselves. So far I have spoken to 2 call centres, 2 underwriters engineering department and an inspection engineer. They asked for evidence of the damage from a local garage. Then they insisted on their own inspection that took 3 weeks to organise. After 3 more weeks they said they wouldn't cover it, and then asked for estimate from the garage - which was submitted six weeks prior.
Overall abysmal, glacial, clueless service.
Will be requesting for a full refund and an ombudsman review.
Run and don’t look back
Don’t use for car insurance I was in a no fault accident back in feb I had nothing but problems after problems I was only paid out last week for the loss of my car long story short I refused my first offer £3450 ( never received a second) I explained you can not even buy my car for under £5000 anywhere in the country so once again I said please fix it . Last week I received the money ( I sent 15 emails and made countless phone calls and begging to fix my car ) I got £3650 for a Aldi A4 sline 11 plate . I then had to borrow money so I could afford another car as cars are so expensive now ( I had my A4 9 years ) . All this time I have been paying my car insurance for a written off car as I was told it will cost over £100 cancel and could effect my next policy. So I rang and changed my new older car over on the policy where they changed me £25 fee and my insurance has gone up …. Thanks Halifax!
Only interested in encouraging personal Injury claims.
Halifax use incident management companies who are are of course only interested in making the most commission. Wrongly advised I had to use IM Solutions when I should have been advised I could claim directly from the at fault parties insurance who had admitted liability. Now 5 weeks on I am being told that the claim will go through as a fault claim on my insurance. The claims management team under various company names have been trying to persuade me to make a fraudulent personal injury claim or other expenses wont be covered. I can only assume they get commission or a bonus. I object to basically being blackmailed into breaking the Law.
Forget the legal cover they will only help if they can get you to make a personal injury claim.
At this point minus my car and no settlement. Halifax do not deal with claims themselves at all.
Halifax complaints do not even go to Halifax but to BGL group. Compliant lodged 21st April, only response on 15th May "I should be in a position to respond to you in full within the next 4 weeks".
Just to add to all this they have also charged me £50 to cancel the policy because according to them a Land Rover station wagon is a pick up truck which they cannot insure. Strangest pick up truck I've ever seen. Another insurer has correctly identified it as an estate/station wagon.
£50 cancellation fee!
Contacted Halifax to upgrade policy due to a vehicle upgrade. Massive increase in policy cost. Checked a leading insurance comparison site and got the same insurance for £150 cheaper! Cancelled with Halifax and they charged £50!!. Take my advice use another company. There is a reason for all of the bad reviews on this site!
Awful customer service
This years premium went up 30 per cent ... with no reason given . Called up to query it and the attitude was take it or leave it. Sorry Halifax this is not the way to treat customers...
My advice is don’t bother with them.
Claims Line not responding
Claims Line not responding. I have been trying to report a motor claim for over 2 hours now and am still on hold - although my call is apparently important to them.
Good service!
We're surprised to see all these bad reviews, we've had mortgages, insurance and bank accounts with Halifax and we've never had any problems.
Our car is insurance with Halifax, we've never had a claim but we've had good service, we get to speak to humans (which a lot of insurers don't seem to offer these days) and they've all been friendly and helpful. Our renewal even went down £45 this year.
We now need insurance on a second car - these bad reviews made us hesitate but we've been given a competitive quote and we'll take the chance on them again as from our own experience, they have been really good.
Shocking experience with Halifax Car…
Shocking experience with Halifax Car Insurance. Someone hit my stationary vehicle parked outside the house on 21 November 2022. This was a non fault claim and the third party admitted liability. After many phone conversations with Halifax, I am still awaiting the repair. The car was finally collected by the repairer on 20 March 2023 and I've just been informed that the replacement bumper will take three weeks to get here from Germany! We did not want or need a courtesy car. What on earth is going on with this company. I suspect someone is making a lot of money on this at our expense. Please avoid Halifax Car Insurance. I was trying to stay loyal to Halifax but never again. I have complained to the Financial Ombudsman who are looking into the matter for me.
RIP OFF £55 CANCELLATION FEE.
I scrapped my car and contacted Halifax to cancel my insurance policy and to reimburse me for the 3 months i had left on my insurance policy. I was told the amount outstanding would be used to cover the £55 cancellation charge and therefore i was owed ZERO. Unbelievable, £55 to press a few buttons on the computer! Insurance companies should be banned from charging such exorbitant fees! Will not be using Halifax again and advise others not to either.
Halifax Insurance should be abolished- EXTREMELY POOR SERVICE
When you make a claim. You will be in a loop of bad telephone options and you will be ringing them over and over and will not get to the right person, when they answer- they will transfer you to all sorts of other insurances. I am paying thru Halifax but was told I have to speak to Somerset bridge insurance, after 6 attempts of speaking to an agent in halifax (waited at least an hour each), been transfered to RAC, Marker study insurance, and i tell you they are all wrong. Until now, no hope! Avoid avoid avoid avoid. They dont know what they are doing. This should not exist!
Absolute robbers
Absolute robbers. I took out a car insurance online at just after 1.00am this morning which isn't supposed to come in force until the 28th. I have just rung to cancel the insurance which is within the 14 days cool off period, plus it's not even 24 hrs and I'm being charged an amendment fee. Amending what? I'm not amending or modifying the insurance, I'm cancelling it. It actually says in the policy document:
“If either you or We cancel within 14 days of receiving your policy documentation We will charge you a fee of £20 plus the cost of the amount of time you have been covered unless you have made a total loss claim in which case no refund will be given and all premiums will be due.”
I HAVEN’T even received any documentation yet. Seriously!!!!
45 minutes and counting to get through…
45 minutes and counting to get through to the Halifax car claims line...hmmm...is this normal?
Absolute rip off merchants
When taking the insurance out they increased the premium by £300 for a non fault accident with all excess recovered from the other driver. Should have known then they were crooks. When I sold me car a few months later I Cancelled my policy online (having bought it online) and was charged a £55 “cancellation fee” - absolutely no justification for this fee at all. The “cost” of me cancelling is neglible requiring no human intervention whatsoever. All you are doing is ripping people off but as insurance is required annually don’t expect return business after doing it.
If you have had the foresight to read the reviews first DO NOT USE HALIFAX for your car insurance.
Just one lost customer is worth more than the extra they swindled me out of.
I feel totally ripped off and conned by…
I feel totally ripped off and conned by them. The info on their website and given to me by a staff member is misleading at best. Never again!
Don't ever buy any kind of insurance from Halifax
Don't ever buy any kind of insurance with Halifax. They are a complete nuisance and disgrace. Back when I bought my policy, they claim I was entitled to a courtesy car on my comprehensive cover. However I now tried to claim, they stated that they are not obliged to provide me a car if they don't have a car available. They keep changing stories as to when I should be entitled to a courtesy car. They don't even process your claim until you start chasing them.
A company to avoid, dreadful service.
I bought a Halifax policy on line and the online experience was OK and the policy reasonably priced.
Six months in, I wanted to make a small change to that policy and take out an additional one for a second car we had bought. That needed a phone call and from the outset, my opinion of Halifax plumeted.
The rigmarole of information the phone system wanted entering to allow me to speak to someone was tedious, tiresome and in the end it didn't work anyway wasting almost fifteen minutes. You think it can't get worse but then you get to speak to an operator.
All I can say about her was that she was unhelpful, obstructive and rude. I explained what I wanted three times and on each occasion she failed to grasp what I was saying and kept insisting on asking the same questions again that I had already answered as clearly as I could.
It got to a point where I not only did not take out an additional policy but I also cancelled the existing one and was able to take a replacement doing out all I wanted on another company's website.
Never again will I consider Halifax.
Avoid at all costs
Halifax, co-op and many others just allow BISL to use their names. BISL sell Zenith policies, Zenith are owned by the Marker Study Group who are the worst company in the world ever. Just Google their reviews, do not buy from them, cheap for a reason
NEVER insure your car with the Halifax
If I could give less than one star, I would. We've been with Halifax for many years and fortunately not had to make claims. Until now, when we discover that absolutely everything about the claim is handled by on or more third parties. Cue three weeks (so far) of being shoved from pillar to post, being given different numbers to call and basically having Halifax wash their hands of us. We have been left high and dry, have no idea where our car is, or even if it still exists, and are still waiting, three weeks after the accident, for contact from Minster Law, the shockingly useless company Halifax has decided will handle our PI claim. I really pity the poor people in the Halifax call centre as I can see from other reviews that I'm not alone in this experience.
