Sam is a highly competent software engineer and offered to convert the SatNav in my Audi Avant A4 japanese import to European maps. Whilst doing this he discovered that the GPS antenna was faulty and pointed me to a cost effective alternative that does the job perfectly. He also converted the mileage from km to miles and changed the radio frequencies to work in the UK and upgraded the radio aerial. It all works perfectly now and we are very happy with his work.

Reached out to Sam about Japanese imports and all I can say is thank god I did. Sam responded to me almost instantly with a vast range of knowledge and many pointers.

I’d never done anything like this before. One afternoon, after missing out on a UK car, frustration led me to take a different route—importing a German car from Japan. I can’t quite remember when or how I first realized this was an option, but the real challenge was figuring out how to source a good car without issues or potential complications I didn’t fully understand.

That’s why I feel incredibly lucky that, after a quick Google search, I made just one phone call and found Sam.

From the very first conversation to the day I picked up the car, his calm and professional approach—combined with his deep knowledge of the market—felt almost too good to be true. As a first-time import buyer, I did my research, but the fear of the unknown was still daunting. The risks felt overwhelming at times, but Sam was both empathetic and realistic, which really helped. I still had to resist the urge to call him every day while the car was being shipped over!

When collection day finally arrived, there were a couple of minor issues—because, well, cars—but they were easily sorted. The tyres were old, which Sam had already advised. Other than that, the bodywork was excellent for the car’s age. My car even came with a full Audi (Japan) history, part of which I verified with Audi UK (Sam supplied the same info), along with the Japanese service book.

He also installed an Apple CarPlay unit I sent over and had the car fully serviced—including a more comprehensive gearbox service, done at a fraction of what my local Audi dealer quoted. Brilliant!

After this experience, I honestly don’t think I’ll ever buy a UK car again. Sam didn’t just help me through the process—he educated me in a way that will shape my future car choices. I completely trust him and his expertise. The car is incredible, and no one believes me when I tell them how much I paid. Even those who have imported cars before agree I got a fantastic deal—and that’s before I even mention the servicing, MMI changes, and everything else Sam helped with. Of course the registration and v5 have all been sorted so I just hopped in started my insurance and drove home. (Edited : 4 months on…. The car is fine, no real issues…. )

There’s a lot of value baked into Sam’s offering, and I’ll certainly recommend him to anyone looking for a high-quality German car at a great price.

Sam is selling some nice cars at good prices. I had an issue with a heating matrix on the car soon after buying. Warranty assist weren't that great in trying to get it sorted but Sam got involved and sorted it out which was really commendable attitude towards his customers. I would recommend cars from japan.

Bought an Audi Q3 from Cars from Japan and delighted with it.

I'd done a bit of research about importing a car myself but got put off as I lost confidence I'd be able to do it myself.

So next best option was to buy from someone who did know what they were doing. I'm really happy with the car, low mileage, much higher spec than other UK versions on Autotrader and in great condition. Overall I'm very happy with it.

To be honest, I wasn't entirely sure about purchasing a Japanese import, but decided to take a leap of faith after some time researching the process.
After searching on Auto Trader I came across Cars From Japan, unfortunately the car I enquired after was sold and other cars enroute weren't exactly what I was looking for, so after a conversation with Sam I decided to ask him to source a car for me.
After a few unsuccessful auction bids, Sam acquired a very nice Mercedes 180c estate and provided some detailed information and images of the car.
The whole process went quite smoothly except for some minor shipping delays due to bad weather.
Sam sorted out all the logistics when the car arrived at Southampton, including the import taxes and registration with the DVLA, he also fitted a mph speedo and arranged for the sat nav and radio to be converted to European spec.
I am very pleased with the car which is in excellent condition and has a higher spec than European models I had looked at with higher prices.
I would would have no hesitation in using Cars From Japan when sourcing my next car.
