Disappointed
Our second visit. First time was great
This time:
The food - very generic starters that could have come from a store but the veg tmpura and salad really nice. Both myself and my wife got stomach pain after. My Main dish bore little similarity to description. My wife's dish had undercooked aubergine but sea bass was lovely.
Ambiance - staff were lovely. But everyone was seated so close together in a massive restaurant it was difficult to hold a conversation
Very poor experience overall
very good hospitality made me feel…
very good hospitality made me feel welcomed and comfortable with a range of different options to accommodate my diet which is vegetarian so overall I recommend
Are Miserable Servers your USP Chaophraya?
Went to Chaophraya Eldon Square, Newcastle today for a family meal. Food was okay but service was TERRIBLE. Firstly our Server had a ‘face like a slapped (body part)’ throughout our visit (clearly was off the day they did 'Charm School’ in her training). When the food came two of the party had the same meal but the meals looked different. It was clear that one of the meals was missing one of the key ingredients. When this was pointed out to Miss Charm-School she didn’t bother removing the deficient meal, instead she simply trotted off to the kitchen, returning with a bowl with the missing ingredient which she unceremoniously dumped on the table. No apology, no explanation, just a dump (with a presumed ’there you go, sort this out yourself’). Additionally I had ordered a cocktail which I suspect had only been shown the bottle of alcohol rather than formally introduced. Like one of the other reviewers experience, the 12.5% Service Tip was included as standard. However I did not deduct it (as I know many restaurant workers depend on tips to make up their wages to something approaching reasonable). However Chaophraya please take note: Firstly I will not be back. I don’t mind paying for expensive food (which yours is for a lunchtime meal) but I expect the service to match and so based on this experience I will NOT be returning. Secondly (and this you may understand better) I will NOT be bringing any corporate clients to you or arranging any corporate events at any of your venues if this the best you can do. Own goal Chaophraya! Own goal!
Food exceptional BUT!
Food exceptional. But staff had to be asked several times for our pre paid champagne, for water. For service. We were sat by the toilets even though they knew it was a wedding celebration.
Over charged by £90 on our bill!!
Beware!!!
Birthday meal
I had a special birthday arranged and had pre-notified the staff to this and they made an exceptional effort to make the occasion very memorable.
We were served by Apinya who was absolutely charming along with all the other staff.
Highly recommended!!
A refreshing change.
Poor experience
My friend and I have visited the Edinburgh restaurant on many occasions and have always enjoyed the experience. The setting and decor are magnificent and we have always found the food excellent.
However we visited yesterday and have to say we certainly will never return. We ordered the tapas from the lunch menu. All the dishes were lukewarm at best and had obviously been prepared much earlier! The quality was certainly not up to previous standards.
I also have to mention the ladies toilets. They are unbelievably cramped and find it hard to believe they meet with basic regulations. There are no handbag hooks, making it necessary to leave your handbag on the floor.
All in all, not the pleasant experience we were expecting! We won’t be back!
Disappointing Graduation Experience in…
Disappointing Graduation Experience in Edinburgh – Poor Service and Overpriced
We had booked the Graduation set menu for what was meant to be a special occasion, but unfortunately, our experience at Chaophraya was deeply disappointing.
To start, there was no glass of champagne on arrival as advertised with the set menu. We had to ask four separate times before finally receiving it. On being seated, we were given the wrong menus, which added to the confusion. The overall service throughout the evening was disorganised, inattentive, and frankly not up to standard.
It’s clear that the front-of-house team lacked proper training and support. The staff appeared overwhelmed, and the basics of good service—attention, timing, and communication—were sorely lacking
The menu also stated prawn crackers as part of the meal, which we never received. At that point, we didn't bother to ask again—something that should never be the case when you’re paying for a set experience.
The food itself was pleasant, but not enough to redeem the experience, especially given the premium pricing. To add insult to injury, the bill included a charge for a bottle of champagne we never ordered, which we had to dispute.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but given the occasion and cost involved, I felt it was important to share our experience. We left disappointed and frustrated, and sadly, I cannot recommend Chaophraya to others based on this visit. We will not be returning
Edinburgh Chaophraya 5star ⭐️
Edinburgh Chaophraya was fantastic! I visited with my grown up children for brunch and we could not fault it at all . Excellent, efficient staff , service spot on and food super tasty . We will certainly be back ! 5 star ⭐ Thank you
Excellent meal
On a visit to Aberdeen stopped off here for a meal before catching ferry. Excellent meal delicious flavours and cooked to perfection. Service was exceptional from start to finish could not recommend enough.
DON’T BUY GIFT VOUCHERS!!!
Purchased £300 worth of vouchers as a Christmas present for our parents. Went to book in November but discovered they were only valid for 6 months! Went into the Glasgow restaurant to try and speak to someone in person for an extension but was directed to an email. We have now emailed the restaurant three times with no response in well over a month. This is AWFUL service and a very disappointing waste of our money.
Went to their Restaurant in Glasgow snd…
Went to their Restaurant in Glasgow snd noticed they have started adding a 12.5% tip to the Bill automatically. Cheeky Fkers! I had them remove it and I will NEVER be back!! We have to stop accepting this nonsense in the UK!
A truly special night in Edinburgh
Over from Dublin I had been here once before and loved it so much we booked it to celebrate my daughters engagement, with her fiancée sister and mom (me ). She arrived at the restaurant with a big balloon saying ‘she said yes’. The food was delicious, beautifully cooked and presented. Each dish a picture, a work of art and tasted devine What made this so special was the friendly staff especially young Angus they were all so attentive. They surprised us with 4 complimentary glasses of Prosecco to celebrate. That meant so much. Then came a surprise special desert at the end. We hadn’t told them it was a special night they just made it extra special with their attention . I would soooo highly recommend. Great food, great place and lovely staff. Thank you Chaophraya
Amazing experience!
We recently visited Chaophraya for the first time while in Edinburgh, and we couldn’t have been more impressed! The food was absolutely delightful – each dish was packed with authentic flavors and beautifully presented. Every bite felt like a culinary journey, and the balance of spices and fresh ingredients was simply perfect.
What truly elevated our experience, though, was the outstanding service. The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in. A special mention must go to Alejandro and Elmo, who were nothing short of fantastic. They were attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home. Their genuine care and effort to make our evening special did not go unnoticed and made this visit truly memorable.
We can't wait to come back the next time we're in Edinburgh! Thank you, Chaophraya, for an unforgettable dining experience.
Lovely food..
Lovely food... amazing friendly service.. Will come again... Best place for family dining...
Staff were amazing,as was the food.
Staff were amazing,as was the food.
Very nice environment and gorgeous view if on roof.
Only let down was a little expensive, but it is right in the centre of Edinburgh.
5* for staff couldn't have been nicer.
Went to Chaophraya Birmingham Yesterday
Went to Chaophraya Birmingham yesterday what an absolute let down the starters was okay asked for special fried rice and they put egg on the rice the food was too sweet they put fruit in there sweet and sour and the bill was £140 not worth it at all.
Wouldn't be going back or recommending anyone to that place food was worth max £60 what a waste of money.
Birthday Party at Chaophraya Aberdeen
Celebrating my fathers birthday with family. 10 people in a private setting was very special and allowed us to speak without talking over the background noise.
Amazing food. The wine selection was a little depleted due to restaurant week the previous week had impacted availability. Spoke with the manager (Chanya) offline and she greatly helped make this an enjoyable rest of evening all round by allocating more personnel to serve us, bring cake and sing a long happy birthday (he was tickled pink with this).
Overall. The food was exceptional, service was very friendly and the overall price was reasonable for a part of 10 people (2 kids).
Highly recommend Chaophraya to anyone looking for a great evening either in a group or ‘date night’ setting.
Went to Leeds last night
Went to Leeds last night
10 out of 10
Amazing food and service ad always.
Mixed starter for 2
Dragon fruit sweet n sour
Ribs off the chefs specials
And to top it off, the wine list (which to me is just as important as the food) was divine
We agreed on a St Hallets Barossa Shiraz
(Ps, the 241 cocktails are of exceptional value - Highly recommend the Raspberry Crush)
Disappointing
A lovely view and I had hoped it would be a lovely lunch too but unfortunately the food was a complete let down. When eating Thai food I always order my favourite dish (Pad Gaprao with chicken), so I have many points of comparison. The chicken was dry which made me think it had been pre-frozen, and the sauce really lacked any depth of flavour. The basil used was just regular basil not Thai holy basil. For the high prices charged for simple Thai food I was expecting it be a great deal better than it was. Additionally, our first waitress wasn't very friendly or accommodating but luckily that was rectified when she was replaced by someone more versed in the service industry. I don't think we'd go back
