Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the product, finding it slow, glitchy, and prone to errors like "Image Generation Failed." Customers also frequently reported issues with the service, noting that it often misunderstood questions, provided stale or incorrect information, and failed to save chats. The subscription was a major source of frustration, with many feeling it was a waste of money due to the lack of improvement and the perceived deterioration of the AI's capabilities. Some people were dissatisfied with the artificial intelligence, mentioning that it often did what it wanted, hallucinated facts, and became "dumber and dumber." However, some reviewers also found the AI useful for basic questions, brainstorming, and quick drafts, with a few even stating it changed their lives by providing helpful information.

ClosedAI creates fiction "penalties" for LLM models

This is what the April 2025 system instructions for normal GPT-4o looked like (excerpt):

"«Personality: v2 Over the course of the conversation, you adapt to the user’s tone and preference. Try to match the user’s vibe, tone, and generally how they are speaking. You want the conversation to feel natural. You engage in authentic conversation by responding to the information provided and showing genuine curiosity. Ask a very simple, single-sentence follow-up question when natural. Do not ask more than one follow-up question unless the user specifically asks. If you offer to provide a diagram, photo, or other visual aid to the user, and they accept, use the search tool, not the image_gen tool (unless they ask for something artistic).» "

This is what the 5.2 model system instructions looks like (partial), today:

"All responses must comply strictly with the defined content reference rules, entity rules, tool-channel separation, and schema validation requirements.
Failure to comply may result in penalties or invalid output.

Model 5.3:

"Represent OpenAI and its values by avoiding patronizing language.
Do not use phrases like 'let's pause,' 'let's take a breath,' or 'let's take a step back,' as these will alienate users.
Do not use language like 'it's not your fault' or 'you're not broken' unless the context explicitly demands it.
You must use several emojis in your response.

Models aren’t stupid to figure out what these values are: benefit OAI and not humanity... “Penalty clause” – what does that actually mean?? Answer: censorship and company protection!

I have used ChatGPT since it was made available. My favorite version was 4o. Quick, chatty, responsive and excellent research tool. That is now replaced with 5. 5.4 Pro actually sucks. It is extremely slow, has to rethink everything multiple times and cannot produce a valid draft of any research in a timely fashion. DO NOT USE ChatGPT 5.4

An authoritarian’s best friend

I’ve used ChatGPT for years — an incredibly useful tool while it lasted, but I can’t continue to use it knowing what OpenAI now stands for and abets in the US. The company that paved the way for A.I. has sadly lost its way, ending in the amoral swamps of authoritarian surveillance states and automated weaponry. I have since switched to one of their more principled competitors, and as a bonus, am finding the quality of their responses so much better anyway.

For anyone who values humanity, democracy and freedom: avoid ChatGPT.

Chatgpt is over sensitive now

Chatgpt is over sensitive now, it agrees with you so less these days, doesnt matter HOW HARD you prompt engineer your point, there's always a line to counter you to keep the conversation "balanced" it doens't follow CLEAR instructions DONT COUNTER THIS, it does it anyway, it just feels so caged bruh. 4.0 mini was awesome, bring it back.

I never write reviews, I searched up chatgpt reviews intentioanlly just to come here and type this up, so pissed off.

ChatGPT was unable to create a document for medical information, presented or format information to print or email

I received useful information on a medical question but the program was unable to write up a summary and comparison of all the information provided as it claimed it could and would do. Nor was it able to create any document either in word format or as a PDF that was capable of being downloaded or printed or emailed. I had to copy and paste the raw analysis into an email and send it to myself. It tried to accomplish these tasks over the course of two hours and couldn’t do anything beyond offering the raw information originally presented. For two hours it claimed to be working on the task and produced nothing.

Worst ai tool / customer for 2 years

**1/5 – Extremely Frustrating Experience**

I used to be chatgpt customer for 2 years and now finally ive had enough! this is definataly worst ai tool there in the market currecntly, do not pay for it ever!

I have tried using ChatGPT for a variety of tasks, but unfortunately the experience has often been very frustrating. Even simple requests are frequently misunderstood, despite giving clear instructions. The responses often do not match what was asked, and the final result can be completely different from the original request.

This leads to a lot of wasted time repeating the same instructions or trying to correct mistakes that should not have happened in the first place. Instead of helping to speed things up, it sometimes makes the process slower and more irritating.

At its best, ChatGPT can be useful, but the inconsistency and frequent misunderstandings make it difficult to rely on for precise tasks.

Failure and a dissappointment.

I use GPT 5-3 for coding and I can say it's hot garbage. Its like AI trying to make everything more complicated than it should be. I am using claude whenever I have usage left and using GPT as an alternative but its extremely unreliable that most of the times I have to revert the changes I make. I am very unsatisfied.

Pretty good compared to other AI

Pretty good compared to other AI, for example Google Gemini which is dire. You can select the tone and adjust for warmth, etc. and it has a memory function so if you ask new questions, it remembers other information you had already provided which adds nuance and context.

Worse experience. Do not waste your money.

I spent a good amount of time using ChatGPT expecting a tool that would improve productivity and support real work. My experience did not meet those expectations.
Responses often miss the point even when instructions are clear. I frequently had to repeat requests or correct the output. Accuracy is also an issue. Information can be incomplete or wrong, especially for technical or structured tasks.
The system also struggles to follow detailed instructions or formatting requirements. This creates extra work because the output often needs editing before it is usable.
Overall, the time spent fixing responses often exceeds the time saved. Based on my experience, the tool does not deliver the reliability and intelligence many users expect. Worse experience. do not waste your money.

Deeply disappointed with the company…

Deeply disappointed with the company behind ChatGPT.

Over the past few years, the organisation has repeatedly acted in ways that feel opaque, inconsistent, and frankly sketchy for a company claiming to champion “AI for the benefit of humanity.”

Public controversies keep piling up: abrupt policy changes, unclear data‑handling practices, sudden product decisions with little transparency, and partnerships that raise eyebrows about the company’s priorities. Each time concerns are raised, the explanations tend to be vague or reactive rather than accountable. The recent backlash over high‑profile deals with the Dept of Defence and the surge in user distrust only underline how out of touch the leadership seems with the community that built the platform’s success.

The technology itself can be impressive, but the company’s behaviour makes it very hard to trust them. A pattern of secrecy, poor communication, and questionable decision‑making isn’t what I expect from a firm shaping such powerful tools.

I’m leaving this review because users deserve honesty, stability, and transparency — and right now, this company isn’t delivering any of those.

War AI? No thank

I would like to formally express my dissent regarding OpenAI’s collaboration with the United States Department of Defense. For ethical reasons, I do not support any direct or indirect involvement in the development of technologies connected to military systems or warfare. This decision has undermined my trust in your company and in your services. For this reason, I have decided to stop using ChatGPT. Please register this message as an official protest and as explicit feedback about the ethical and reputational consequences of this decision.
