Easy to use (UK mobile signal when in shops notwithstanding!)

Tried Bank Card before Gift Card

Tried shopping normally before I would get any gift cards.

What they tell you happens:
To use Cheddar to get cashback when paying with your bank card at Tesco, download the Cheddar app and link your bank cards to it, then shop at Tesco as you normally would. The Cheddar app will automatically detect your purchases at featured retailers, including Tesco, and deposit cashback into your account.

What then happens is the app lists when you have been there and how much you spent but it’s listed as missed.

You're absolutely right that we used to offer automatic cashback when you shopped with a linked bank card. However, based on user feedback (including concerns about low rates, limited retailers, and long payout delays), we made the decision a number of months ago to pause auto-cashback and focus fully on gift card-based rewards instead.

This switch was communicated with users and we no longer advertise our tracked 'automatic cashback' feature.

Here’s why we doubled-down on gift cards:
✅ More retailers – 100+ brands including some of the UK's top grocers and retailers.
✅ Higher cashback rates – often double or more compared to previously.
✅ Instant cashback – no more waiting weeks or months to get rewarded.

We completely understand it can be confusing if you were expecting auto-cashback, and we’re sorry for any frustration caused.

Regarding the missed cashback notification. Your spend is still shown in the app for transparency, but it’s marked as "missed" because the auto-tracking programme is no longer active. It also helps you become aware that a potential saving is available on your next spend.

That said, we’re always listening – and if we see strong demand for bank card cashback again, we’ll absolutely consider bringing it back in a better, more rewarding way. We strive to bring the best value to our users always!

Poor customer communication

Paid for an IKEA card to use in store but it didn't appear on the app. £299 was taken from my bank account and shows up clearly on the Cheddar open banking dashboard with the correct reference and what I've paid for. What I am disappointed with is the automated email responses until 2 days later, when I got an email from Mustafa saying that I was going to be refunded within 24 hours. 5 days later and still waiting for my money back. Poor communication so far compared to the other financial apps I regularly use.

Great suppoer

Had a technical problem and ended up buying the same gift card twice. I submitted a support request and within 3 working days I’ve had it all sorted and the money refunded. Really great support from the team at Cheddar, especially as they said that the company I bought the gift card for don’t normally do refunds.
This is the first time I’ve needed support from Cheddar, but have been using them for a while with no problems at all. Love the new ‘streaks’ feature they’ve released to get better cashback rates if you buy gift cards each week. I use the gift cards for my shopping at Tesco each week so it works really well.
