EXTREMELY long wait times for customer…
EXTREMELY long wait times for customer service. I've had to call several times this year, and each time it's been over an hour on hold.
Last time I called I waited 45 minutes, got told i needed to be transferred to a different department, and waited another 30 minutes before getting an agent.
Today I waited for an hour and 40 minutes before reaching an agent.
CIBC made over $8 billion profit last year, can they not afford to pay an adequate number of customer service agents?
One Bad Customer Experience Can Cost CIBC Many More
When I came to write a review about my experience, I was shocked to see how many people had reported the exact same issue. It became clear that I was not alone. Seeing so many similar complaints suggests this is not an isolated incident but a recurring pattern. If this reflects CIBC's banking strategy, it is deeply disappointing and raises serious concerns about transparency and fair treatment of customers.
What makes my experience even more frustrating is the inconsistent communication. I had several conversations with CIBC representatives, and I was repeatedly told that my account had been closed. Since I was no longer using the account and had not been properly informed in advance about any ongoing fees, I was advised that the charges would be waived.
To my surprise, I later received a letter from the Recovery Department demanding payment. I called again today and spoke with person who confirmed that the account had indeed been closed. However, despite that confirmation, I was still told that I had to pay $153.79.
The lack of communication and consistency between departments is unacceptable. Customers should not have to navigate conflicting information or pay for mistakes they had no reasonable way of preventing. I knew this wasn't the best banking experience, but I never imagined it would cost me $153.79 to learn that lesson.
I will never bank with CIBC again. Trust is earned through transparency and fair treatment of customers, and unfortunately, my experience with CIBC has shown the opposite.

If there is a “0” star i would give it to CIBC. Have no idea why Costco picked this bank for their customers Master card.
They intentionally don’t send out statements so that the customers have to pay for interest and late fee charges.
most complicated sign-up process
I wish they zero-star option. I signed up business banking, and it is one of the most complicated sign up process. Their customer support is pathetic. I have to go different department for each issue and they transfer me to wrong department. Its worst banking experience i had.
Refusing to send mortgage discharge papers
I paid my mortgage off July 2025. Requested the discharge papers. I was told I would have them within 10 business days.
A couple of months go by and nothing, so I call again. I'm told the same story. This continuous "you'll have them in 10 days" kept occurring. Each time they would claim they were sent, but they never were. After the 5th call and about 11 months past paying the mortgage off - I ask if they can send the documents via courier with a tracking number to prove they were actually sending me something. This time I'm told I'll have a tracking number within 2 business days. 4 business days later nothing, so I call back for the 6th time, asking for my tracking number. The person after some digging, gives me a tracking number then puts me on hold. I check the tracking number and it's not valid. He comes back on the phone and tells me that wasn't a tracking number. It makes me wonder where this person got a number that was supposed to be a tracking number. So while on this call - I request to speak to a supervisor. Apparently that is the only way for me to get my discharge papers.
I don't have a bank account with CIBC, I only had a mortgage that was done through a mortgage broker.
The difficulty to get CIBC to provide my discharge papers shows the level of incompetence that exists at CIBC. I would never do ANY kind of business with them ever again.
Do better.
I am currently travelling in Portugal…
I am currently travelling in Portugal and have been extremely disappointed with my CIBC Costco Mastercard. My card has been repeatedly declined at multiple merchants, causing unnecessary stress and embarrassment while travelling. I have had to rely on other payment methods because I cannot depend on this card. A travel credit card should work reliably internationally, or at the very least there should be prompt support when problems occur. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this card to anyone who travels outside Canada. I hope CIBC improves the reliability of international transactions and provides better assistance to customers abroad.

This branch needs a serious intervention. Understaffed, slow and inefficient. Expect long line ups
Tellers pleasant but that's the only thing going for it. Oh and the cleaners do a good job.
Infuriating to deal with
Infuriating to deal with. Cannot understand the accent. Customer service is a joke and a waste of time.

This is not an ethical service and does not stand buy its RRSP and RSP customers. Initially they lost my accounts and after multiple calls to numerous CIBC Securities employees they closed my account without communication and will not honor my 20000.00 in funds after saving since the 80s. Shame on them.

I had a truly terrible experience at the CIBC Customer Center. There was absolutely no professionalism or sense of responsibility to be found. They lacked knowledge, kindness, and manners.
It felt like they were toying with me.
They provided incorrect information and ruined my Scotiabank account. They withdrew the same amount twice, and when I requested a cancellation, they flatly refused. On top of that, the employee handling my request even toyed with me.
He said he would ask a manager, then returned a short while later saying he would inquire with the billing department, and then said he would inquire with yet another department. In the meantime, when I checked my account, the withdrawal had been canceled. He continued to deceive me in this manner. By the time he processed my request, he already knew all the facts but still laughed at me.
On the other hand, Scotiabank employees are truly excellent, kind, and polite.
I had another terrible experience with CIBC services.
It was July, and I paid my credit card bill twice through a CIBC agent. One was a manual payment method, and the other was an automatic payment method. Because a CIBC billing department agent provided me with incorrect information.
They returned the money on the same day. And in two months. I included the money they returned to me in the bill and sent it.
When I contacted the CIBC billing department to request resolution, I was directed to go to the nearest CIBC branch and speak with a finance staff member. Just because they can't solve it,
So I stopped by the CIBC bank near my home.
However, at that time, a CIBC employee told me that there was no finance department at the CIBC branch and advised me to contact the credit card department. They couldn't help me. I feel like no one wants to fix this problem. I think CIBC has embezzled a large amount of money from customers this way. I spent more than 4 hours trying to fix it, but unfortunately I couldn't. I'm so tired and sick of CIBC credit card service.

Great satisfaction
Today on Jul 02, 2026, I contacted CIBC Financial department to resolve an issue.
The representative I had conversed with was Sameera.
I must say that she is very informative and has a strong grip of her job description. The conversation span was approx 45 min. She answered each of my question very politely, patiently and gave me good suggestions.
I have had this pleasant experience seldom in my life.
Good luck Sameera with your future goals.

Tried to update my phone number (got rid of landline for cell), 54 minutes on the line with CIBC and apparently still couldn't answer enough personal questions to verify me enough to update my phone number. Told me I'd have to drive into the branch, over an hour away
CIBC...worst of the big-5
CIBC or as I like to refer to it as Canadian Bank of India is BY FAR the worst of the big-5 for the last deade. There is not enoughbspace here for me to write the mistakes both their system (cards & website) & their telephone employees make. They blatantly lie, saying they will perform a task, then when you call back because it was either done incorrectly or simply not done, you find that the person you spoke to last entered no notes. A 90 min conversation & they record nothing in the notes! How are they not fired?
I have already taken away my mortgage & LOC, but left my main accounts & my 2 credit cards because they are tied to my kids accounts.
I pray that the entire CIBC banking system crumbles, goes bankrupt & that none of them are ever re-hired in banking!!!
Honestly I've never experienced what…
Honestly I've never experienced what I've experienced with cibc. First one they cibc woker call me an N word, second the manger she through my papers and my bank on my face because I asked her what her title in the bank while I was on the phone with my representative she could here everything what's going on and today I went to withdraw money they are asking me why am I withdrawing money everytime while its my own money. Am gonna close my account with cibc and look for another bank even if I've been with you guys for 10 years. Am very disappointed. Guys am telling open account with other banks but not cibc there's recisim going on there and also you are not allowed to withdraw your own money every day wow.
Cibc offers a promotion, they will.not pay for. …
Cibc offers a promotion where you have to jump through a bunch of hoops tp get a 500 cash incentive to switch banks to them. Well you have to set up direct deposit and make a few online payments or reoccurring payments. Well I did that, and even asked a customer service representative to look and see if I was good to receive it. 2 different agents told me I was good. Then after the time period was done I get told that I didnt make the right type of online payment.
It seemed like to me that they did whatever they could to not give me the 500. Ive waited 8 months almost now and I have only had the worst absolute worst experience. If you plan on moving over to cibc, think again. They are by far hands doen the worst bank ive ever had the displeasure of dealing with. They are crooks. I am.on disability and I have the disability tax credit with cra. Cibc says very clearly they will excuse monthly fees if you have the proof of the disability credit. I gave the proof. I told multiple agents. And after 8 months. I get charged 15 to 25 a month. Late fees that shouldn't be and fees that shouldn't be. I am sick and tired of banks thinking they are invincible. Boycott cibc. Go somewhere else. I know I am. Crooks in fancy suits. Disgusting.
