First class product & service at very reasonable price

This is a first class product and service but at a really reasonable price. I was recommended to use Clement Browne by a friend and I am so pleased I have used them. I ordered a shutter for my lounge in a colour. The initial visit was a no hassle, honest sales visit where I chose the type and colour of shutter. The lady that visited was knowledgeable and really pleasant. There was no pressure to order. I took my time to choose once I had my quote and ordered. Then lockdown hit. Throughout this time I had regular contact and updates. Despite the fitter coming from south of the UK they arrived when they were finally able to travel and John the fitter was fantastic. Polite, quick, obviously really knowing the product. He explained how to use the shutters, maintain them and avoid scratching. The product looks amazing. I will be ordering more for the remaining windows in the house in due course.

We love our new Shutters!

From start to finish the experience we had was brilliant! Communication was great via email or phone. Everyone turned up when they said they would and we are absolutely thrilled with our new shutters. We have 4 adults working from home at the moment and all the windows being fitted were in our offices. Louie our fitter was efficient, accommodating and worked around us all brilliantly. He did a fantastic job and left the house spotless. Would definitely recommend Clement Browne to anyone looking for shutters.

Absolutely terrible experience they…

Absolutely terrible experience they have taken almost £4000 of our money & now have a 4th fitting date.
I’m fully expecting to be fobbed off with another excuse.
Avoid this company like the plaque!
Customer service manager actually laughed when my wife complained.
Chinese blinds as well not British!

While you are true to your word that you will review us negatively on socials if you don't get your way, you won't get a different response from us. We've already given you the honest answer regarding your fitting and why we've had to sadly reschedule a number of times due to Covid19 regulations and our fitters needing to self isolate. We cannot break Covid19 rules, despite you asking us to.

I can assure you we didn't laugh at your complaint.

As we have already said, on the phone, via email and via socials - we will find you a fitting date, as soon as we can. Your shutters are safe with us, you are not being fobbed off, we just cannot ask fitters to break Covid19 rules if they are needing to self-isolate due to being in contact with suspected cases.

This is something all businesses are dealing with at this difficult time; the reliance of a fit and healthy workforce on the day of any pre-booked appointment. Sadly, this has happened to you, more than once, for which we're truly sorry - but it has entirely been out of our hands. We cannot then get to you instantly as we have other customers pre-booked for installations who we cannot let down, otherwise we have yet another upset customer.

We have said we are looking for a priority fitting date for you. We have explained numerous times why this has happened, what we can't do is be subject to the bribe of bad social reviews because we can't tell you what you want to hear and instead choose to be honest in our communication, as always.

Shutters fitted in new house

I chose Clement Browne after some research , Graham came to measure and it was expertly done. He wasn’t available to fit them so John did the fitting , he was extremely efficient , polite and vacuumed after each window and removed all the wrapping. I have had shutters in three houses and think these are the best I have had and priced competitively, yes you have to wait, I used paper blinds as a temporary window dressings it was worth the wait, thoroughly recommend .

Excellent service and quality

We are really pleased with our shutters and would highly recommend. We got measured up in December and received the quote immediately. I was able to split the quote and have 3 windows done straight away and will be ordering again for the rest. The wait was longer than expected but with Christmas and Covid I had expected that. Shutters were fitted in April and we couldn’t be happier with the quality or the service.

Update Good Shutters but not necessarily UK Made

No issues with the measuring or fitting of the shutters, but it took almost 4 months from ordering to installation.

Clement Browne make a big deal out of ‘UK’ made, but their claim only applies to a limited part of their range of shutters. The rest are made in China and transported to the UK by train.

Update 1 May

The shutters installed are not matched with each other and the disparity can be seen from outside. This was reported to Clement Browne on 16 April. Two weeks later there’s no sign of resolution, just a response to my earlier review that focused on Chinese manufacture rather than the 4 months it took from placing the order.

Yes, our UK-made product is the one we highlight on the homepage along with the text "Ask your Master of Product at your free survey and quotation appointment whether your specification is suitable for British-Made fast delivery and fitting." not all windows are suitable for UK-Made and therefore need to be made in our overseas factory.

Every company in the UK selling a wooden product either comes from Lithunia or China, there are no wooden manufacturers in the UK. Our UK-made product is quite unusual which is why we highlight it; we're proud to give our customers a choice on production, where the suitability matches their windows.

We're very proud of our production line in China and our Chinese co-workers who ensure our quality is unrivalled on every shutter that leaves our warehouse, as you've stated in your review, they look fantastic, so that's what matters to 95% of our customers, but giving people the option on production where we can, is something we always try and do as we of course, understand the benefits of keeping trade within the UK at this time.

Five star customer service and good value for money!

Recommended by our neighbour - three houses on our road have installed or waiting for installation from them! It was been five good months of waiting time for us, but it's so worth the waiting as everyone around said and we do feel the same. Clement Browne provides the most professional and efficient customer service all the way from the initial quotation. I even made a mistake and cancelled the long-scheduled installation appointment accidentally, however they managed to resume the appointment as promised, on a Sunday afternoon which was very impressive! Our shutter measured and installed by Andrew who provided excellent service and good manner, very into details and patiently helping to clean away any packages and old blinds. We are 100% satisfied with the overall quality and price of the shutters, as well as five star customer service experience. Highly recommended to anyone who want a fresh look on their bay window with very good value for money - our toddler enjoys helping open and shut them too!

MADE IN CHINA NOT UK AS WEBSITE SAYS

Waited over 6 weeks for an appointment only to be told the shutters for a bay window are made in China. All the website shows "UK Made" all over the place with union jack graphics everywhere. I could have ordered UK made wooden shutters from elsewhere 6 weeks ago but waited for Clement Browne appointment first due to what turns out to be a very misleading website. Please make this clearer on your website in future.

Such a rude response just cements my impression of you.
You were not at my appointment so have no idea what "expertise" was provided. There was no explanation from the person that visited me, they were happy just to leave and not give any details of customer service or anyone I could speak to about it. In fact, he actually told me someone would contact me and no one did.

I have been told specifically that the shutters that I have ordered are made in the UK. If they are lying to me then I will take that up with them. Thank you for bringing this up.

I am sure you are proud of your product, my issue was not with China but with just another thing that needs to be shipped half way round the world like everything else we use, and I accept many things have to come from overseas with no option. I simply wanted to know my options in advance and make a choice.

Also I don't have a phone in my hand thank you. And I know I don't have much choice in where a lot of things come from, I know we have to have trade abroad and of course there will be items that I have no choice but get from overseas, that wasn't my issue. It more the case of I didn't feel your website or adverts offered enough transparency. Many of the posts I have seen also show a bay window in the picture with UK made mentioned somewhere underneath.

Shutters are not really a necessity so I was just trying to lower the carbon footprint of some of the things that I buy, thats all. There is no need to try and shame me or try to make me look stupid as if it was something Chinese made I was against. It wasn't that, as I say, it was just me trying to reduce travel distance of SOME the things in my home.

It certainly wasn't clear on your website or I would have contacted you prior to the appointment, that was my point. I contacted all the other companies I spoke to as they did not have union jacks plastered all over their website, so I apologise that with you I did not think it was necessary.

As I said your indignant and rude response has done you no favours in my eyes, however I have updated the star rating as i have since had worse service so you don’t deserve to have the same rating. I may have done more if you had genuinely apologised and took some responsibilty for the way your website reads.

Our appointments are really busy at the moment as we provide them at no cost or obligation to you, despite providing a full home design service for your shutters. 6 weeks is not normal for a home design appointment but is currently subject to the trading conditions we find ourselves in.

As our website states, we have a UK-made product - the one that is clearly shown front and centre of our homepage in the first third of the content, and we have our own production line in China where certain shutters are manufactured. This is the same for the whole of the UK - if your shutters are wooden, they are coming from China, despite what anyone might claim or sell against. There are currently no wooden production lines inside the UK. The fact we say "UK Made" on our website. is not misleading as we make and assemble shutters in the UK at our headquarters in Chelmsford, Essex. Your shutters were simply not suitable for the UK-Made product.

We are very proud of our production line in China, and it has served our John Lewis, Laura Ashley, Glasspool, and thousands of direct customers well over our 11 years in business. Our UK-Made range is very clearly shown on the homepage with the following quote "Ask your Master of Product at your free survey and quotation appointment whether your specification is suitable for British-made fast delivery and fitting. " - bay windows are more complex and are not suitable for the UK-Made product. There is a clear caveat around the UK-made product in the very first section of our website.

We are available 8am-10pm daily on Live Chat for any questions our customers have prior to their home design appointments. You could have reached out to us at any time in the six weeks prior to your appointment to clarify anything that was of particular interest or concern to you - just as we have customers doing every day.

I'm sad that you've felt the need to leave us a one-star review after we have given you our time, our expertise, our petrol and professional service at no cost whatsoever to you when our website is very clear on certain suitability for the UK made-product. It feels unjust at a time when businesses are working harder than they've ever had to work before, that you feel a one-star review for a *free* service is something that is necessary at this time - when the error is in your reading of our information.

Wherever you are getting wooden shutters from, they originate from a production line in either Romania or China. Whilst we hope more manufacturing is done on British soil in the future, it's not something anyone, including those you see advertising on TV - have attempted, with good reason. The same reason the phone in your hand likely came from China too.

Beautiful shutters - shame about the long wait

Beautiful shutters and excellent service. Unfortunately I had to wait 17 weeks (I understand the usual wait time is 10 weeks) for my shutters due to Christmas, Covid and Brexit (the shutters are shipped from China) which was a real pain. Truth be told, if I'd known it was going to take that long, I probably would have gone with a different company which makes its shutters in the UK but now that the shutters have been installed, I'm really happy. I made the most of the Black Friday sale, so received 20% off which made the shutters excellent value for money. Andrew did the quote and installation and was fantastic. Shei in Customer Services was also really helpful, keeping me up to date on all of the delays. If I had received the shutters after the usual 10-week wait, the whole process would have been amazing. I had to knock off a star for the wait time.

We totally understand the frustrations around wait time, it's been a frustrating period for us too to say the least. Although this is no consolation, there were only two containers of shutters that were this late, and this was a bad juxtaposition of delays at port due to Covid and Christmas shut-downs overseas. Sadly, both of these things are entirely out of our control.

There are no shutter manufacturers in the UK that are capable of making hardwood shutters on UK soil. All hardwood shutters in the UK originate from either China or Romania, UK-Made shutters are uPVC product, which are often more expensive but of course have the same benefits of uPVC windows over wood - less maintenance, easy clean etc. But it's important to note the distinction in that they are two different products, so if you had your heart set on wood, regardless of who you purchased from, you would have been in for a bit of a wait at that time. This is why it's the only time of the year we discount our shutters by 20% as we compensate our customers for the inevitable delays at that time of year, it was just utterly compounded this year by Covid and Brexit issues at ports, which we had no handle over, but entirely share your frustration with.

We're glad you love your shutters regardless - Andrew is a customer-favourite fitter. We will also pass on your kind comments to Shei in customer service.

We thank you wholeheartedly for your patience at this testing time for everyone in business and we hope to see you again in the future!

They look perfect!

Our shutters look perfect and were fitted quickly and efficiently by Ryan. He was a true professional and even tidied up and removed all the packaging afterwards.

There was a delay due to covid but they were worth the wait!!

100% Rating!

I was really looking forward to my shutters being installed and I was certainly not disappointed. Andrew arrived very promptly and worked non stop for nearly 3 hours.
I am so delighted with the shutters, they are so well finished and Andrew did a great job of fitting them.
I appreciate a job well done and this certainly was, 100% satisfied.
I shall be looking to have a couple more windows done in the future.

Best company I’ve worked with for my renovation

I rarely write reviews but had to say how fantastic Clement Browne were to work with. I got many many quotes from different companies, Andrew was the ONLY person to really listen to my needs and gave a solution (thinner than normal frames). Cost was very competitive and if I decide to get more shutters I’ll definitely be returning.

Customer after care non existent - We have a blind frame that has cracked…

We have a blind frame that has cracked due to incorrect installation and is still within the warranty period. Clement Browne and stating it is due to Water damage which is false as the area in question has never been subjected to any water. Their customer care is non existent and though the blinds look good when installed it has become evident that their warranty is useless and therefore I would recommend that anyone thinking of purchasing from then avoids doing so to save themselves from wasting a considerable amount of money in the longer term

Hi Mel,

After reviewing your pictures taken at the Quality Control appointment, there is clear water damage in the photos. Water damage can encompass condensation from your windows or the window being open when it is raining and moisture being trapped. The water damage of your shutters is mimicked in the damage of your actual windows behind the shutters as well, there are similar looking cracks in your wooden frames. This is not incorrect installation, this is condensation around your windows, or moisture that is being let in in that area.

We stand by our warranty. In this instance, if we were to put new shutters in, your new shutters would do the same thing until, what appears to be, a condensation issue, is fixed around your actual windows. Please don't get new shutters fixed to these windows until this has been rectified, as this isn't unique to just our wooden shutters, any wooden shutters would crack when subjected to moisture like this.

Your warranty doesn't account for water damage inside your home - but I can see we have been in communcation with you over this for some time and sent the cost to replace, however - the above stands - replacing will not rectify the condensation issues in your home and the next shutter would crack in exactly the same way after some time exposed to moisture.
