Sadly this company took over from Bells Potter, a first class family firm of solicitors in Farnham, with whom I had an excellent working relationship.

I have never met anyone from this “new” company now of several years, but have had very aggressive emails from them changing the T&Cs and listing extortionate fees for reregistering my documents they have held for many years which means I need to waste time shopping round elsewhere. In fact no notice was even given that they had invalidated my documents two years ago and I just found out in 2024 by chance when I needed their assistance.

It has just come to my notice these emails come from a secretary and not from the solicitors! Learning something about customer and client relations would not be remiss! On speaking to her later on the phone, in her gatekeeping role, there is merely a take it or leave it attitude with no consideration of personal circumstances, signs of empathy, duty of care, or the fact I have now, as a result, been left in a very difficult position.

There is a world of difference between solicitors who first discuss the suitability of the services they can provide for their clients, and their fees, as I had previously experienced with Bells Potter, and those such as Clifton Ingram who first and only set out their fees to be paid up front in order to gain a consultation with their solicitors. Developing a relationship of trust rather than showing signs of money grabbing is the α and the Ω of a good working partnership which is far more likely result in a more satisfactory legal outcome.
Behind every client there is a personal story and without clients the firm and its staff would not be in business!

Laura Inskip is the consummate professional. She supported me through a difficult process and was pragmatic, professional, sharp and had great empathy. She listens carefully and gives you no-nonsense advice that is incisive and on point and is not afraid to challenge.

AVOID! The most incompetent, deceiving, inefficient and money grabbing 'legal firm' I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

I never imagined that my journey with Clifton Ingram LLP, a firm I enlisted for a crucial commercial dispute, would turn into a nightmarish escapade. This 'legal firm,' if one could even grace them with such a title, has been a paradigm of incompetence and deceit.

From the outset, their communication was as clear as mud. Phone calls went unanswered, emails were met with cryptic responses, and the rare occasions we did converse felt like navigating through a labyrinth of confusion. It seemed as though each member of their team was more clueless than the last, a merry-go-round of inefficiency.

The advice provided was not just inadequate; it was misleading. 85% of the work I ended up doing myself. Every strategy they suggested led us down a path of increased complexity and cost, with no tangible progress. The case, which I initially believed to be straightforward, ballooned into an unrecognisable quagmire under their guidance.

And the fees! Oh, the fees were astronomical. It was as if their primary expertise was in crafting exorbitant invoices. For every minute of consultation, there was an inflated charge, and for every bungled piece of advice, another line item to the bill. Anything to increase their profits, at your expense. We should never have been advised to progress with 8 months of back and forth, when our dispute could have been settled without their help at the outset. Completely self serving and unprofessional.

In conclusion, Clifton Ingram LLP is a masterclass in how not to run a legal firm. Their blend of incompetence, inefficiency, and money-grabbing tactics should serve as a warning to anyone in need of legal assistance. Avoid at all costs, unless you fancy a foray into the absurd and expensive world of legal mismanagement.

Probate Service - Quoted 3 months, it took 15 months. Not because it was complicated, but because they simply didn't take any action. No response to emails, phone calls and didn't even manage to get the deceased name right! A bit shambolic really

Legal work re property being auctioned
I instructed First For Auctions to sell my flat. This is a very successful company which operates on very tight and demanding deadlines and requires an extensive amount of paper work to provide prospective bidders with a legal pack relating to the property being auctioned.

Because of the slow pace at which my family solicitor worked, I asked First For Auctions if they could recommend a solicitor. Jo Reader of Clifton Ingram was highly recommended as they had worked extensively with her and had absolute confidence in her professional ability to handle the related legal and extensive paper work within tight time frames.

I contacted Jo Reader, via email, and asked if she would be prepared to handle the legal work. As an added complication I informed her that the auction would be at the end of the month which immediately created an incredibly tight deadline. Jo response was immediate and positive.

Jo’s work included the preparation of a seller’s legal pack, and involved liaising with the auction company and completing their paper work. Additionally, Jo had to liaise with the property’s service management company (to obtain historical data relating to costs and services provided and undertaken etc) and the company responsible for collecting the ground rent (for historical data re ground rent). Jo also proof read, and commented, where appropriate, on the many forms I had to complete as the property owner. The legal fees represented unequalled value for money. There were no hidden fees and absolutely no small print. Every detail of the legal process and their related fees, was explained in detail with absolute clarity before I instructed her to undertake the work. The final, itemised, invoice, was as expected.

I regularly communicated with Jo, on many occasions several times a day, during which she responded asap often within minutes. Her messages were always precise, with clarity, courteous and professional. At all times, I felt Jo was very happy to receive my messages. Jo made me feel highly valued and respected. Indeed, the attention I received often made me feel as though I was her only client. I felt she was absolutely committed to representing me.

As a result of Jo’s incredible professionalism, I now no longer use my long time family solicitor but direct all my legal work through Clifton Ingram.
Legal aspects in life have always caused me a degree of anxiety and worry just because they deal with legal issues, including fees and the legal process, in the mine field of related paper work. That feeling has now been dispelled thanks to Jo. She has given me total confidence in facing future legal issues and that really is one massive worry off my mind. Jo, you are a credit to your company and I am truly grateful to you. You worked incredibly hard under pressure and you made me feel valued. The sale of my property was a complete, stress free success.

Our experience with Clifton Ingram has been appalling from start to finish. After 3 years of delays, poor communication and basic errors, they are now charging us nearly £300 per hour to reply to our emails pointing out their errors (apparently giving the wrong sale price to HMRC!) and chasing ridiculous delays. They have now got us in a situation where we no longer dare contact them to ask what's going on, because they'll charge us to reply, even though they've kept us hanging on for several months with no apparent progress, substandard accounts and dire communications. Avoid this firm like the plague!

My sister and I have just purchased our first home, and Clifton Ingram made the process unbelievably smooth (several times along the way have I had people marvel at how speedily we’ve made our way through the legal side of things). From the far reaches of their fertile imagination, our expert fraudulent claim team of Jonathan Davis and the barrister Tom Gentleman will make up a fictitious Particulars of Claim worthy of a Booker Prize to claim for a loss you haven’t sustained then use this to pressurise your victim to hand over up to £500,000. But, I hear you say, what if the victim has clear evidence that the case brought against them is a pile of tosh? Don’t worry, we will have an “arrangement” with their legal representatives to ensure that any evidence provided by the victim won’t ever be shown to a judge. The only evidence presented in court will be the garbage you make up. But surely making up a bogus litigation claim to cheat someone out of £500,000 must be a breach of the solicitors’ code of conduct? Yes it is but all of the regulators, the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority, The Legal Ombudsman, The Bar Standards Board and The Legal Services Board have a policy of turning a blind eye to such practices. If you want to know how corrupt the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority is, check out their Trust Pilot rating. OK, but it must be a criminal offence for a barrister to pervert the course of justice to falsely incriminate their own client and help a fraudster cheat them out of £500,000? Yes it is but the police have a policy of not prosecuting legal professionals involved in massive fraud. But I thought fraud, conspiracy to defraud, perjury and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice were criminal offences. Am I likely to end up with a lengthy term in prison? No, you will get away with it scot free!
