Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 24 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the product, specifically with the new formulas of Colgate toothpastes, citing issues like increased teeth sensitivity, horrible taste, and a bitter aftertaste. Customers also frequently reported problems with the quality of the toothpaste, experiencing burning sensations, irritation around their mouths, swollen lips, and even peeling skin inside their mouths. The price of the products was also a point of contention for many, with some feeling that the expensive toothpastes did not deliver on their promises. Though some people were satisfied with a Colgate soft toothbrush, finding it effective and gentle on gums, the majority of complaints centered on the negative changes to the toothpaste formulas and packaging, including difficult-to-use tubes and caps.

Disgusting taste

Last night, I opened a new tube of Colgate Max White Ultra. I expected it to be the blue pleasant tasting toothpaste I used before. Unfortunately, it was white and tasted absolutely disgusting, so much so that I had to wash my mouth out immediately and use Sensodyne rapid to disguise the taste. I was about to go to bed and it was all I could smell so I used deodorant under my arms so that I wouldn’t smell my exhaled breathe and finally, I had to go downstairs and drink orange juice to take the taste away completely. I can’t believe that Colgate could expect anyone to use this toothpaste. What are they thinking?

New & 'improved' Total formula tastes disgusting

Colgate- why have you replaced your 'Total Original' formula with a new and 'improved' formula. It tastes absolutely foul, leaves a bitter aftertaste, and on using this for a few weeks, I have experienced teeth sensitivity which I never had before in my life.

Have used Colgate Total for years, why have you messed with something that worked well. Will be switching brands as now can't stand the taste of any of your toothpastes.

Don’t buy Colgate toothpaste

I thought it could prevent cavities but it doesn’t. What’s more it stained my teeth and zero help with sensitivity. I brush twice a day and I still get cavities. One tooth broke because of no enamel protection. It doesn’t even keep breath fresh. I’m switching to Crest

Max White stain lift and overnight…awful product

Max White stain lift and overnight whitening serum was on offer in Boots so thought I would give it a go. Toothpaste has a very unpleasant taste and seems to foam so you border on looking like a rabid dog if you use too much. It dries your mouth after and leaves a not very nice after taste I wonder why it has to taste so awful! The overnight serum? Have no idea how it could even work and indeed it hasnt. A waste of money (thank goodness I didn't pay full normal price) time and effort unless you like a truly awful aftertaste left in your mouth my advice is give it a miss! Wouldn't have even given it one star but unfortunately there is no other option

Max white optic

Disgusting toothpaste and stained my toothbrush. Taste is horrible and don’t look in the mirror when you use this. My partner doesn’t mind it so I guess it’s a marmite situation but big NO!

Colgate total plaque pro

Does exactly what it says, within three days the plaque was literally falling off my teeth and I don't need an expensive hygienist appointment at the dentist now.I was sceptical that it was just another gimmick but was really surprised and impressed.10 out of 10.

Colgate Max White Teeth Whitening Pen

Colgate Max White Teeth Whitening Pen. What a waste of money. Need to click the pen loads of time to get anything out and it's see through so hard to tell. Teeth need to be really dry but you can't tell if any liquid is going on them. Pen goes gloopy. Wake up and there's sporadic white film on some of the teeth that won't come off with brushing. Didn't see any difference to stains.

HELP! Where's my toothpaste gone?

For years I've found that only one toothpaste is good for sensitive teeth: Colgate SENSITIVE INSTANT Relief (with) ENAMEL REPAR (that's the one with the sketch of a tooth with red, on the left, and blue, on the right, lines and dots, inside a hexagon). BUT!!!!!!! it's no longer on sale!!!!! Why not? Why has it gone from the shelves? Now my toothache is back. Unless the product is back on sale, I can only give Colgate a 1 star review, instead of the 5 star they previously deserved. Yes, I've tried the other Colgate toothpastes, but they all no good for sensitive teeth and taste bad as well.

Colgate Optic White ComfortFit LED kit not reliable

I recently used the Colgate Optic White ComfortFit LED teeth whitening kit. There are several problems with this product. The first is that the whitening gel is nearly impossible to discern from the tip of the whitening pen. Therefore, you can't really tell how much gel you have on the pen before you apply it, nor can you tell how much gel you're putting on your teeth. Once dry, I could feel the thin layer on parts of my teeth, but not on others, so I'm skeptical of how well this is really working. Second, you use your cell phone to operate the whitening light. You must keep your phone unlocked the entire time you are using the light. Otherwise, the light will shut off. Since it's in your mouth, you won't see when it goes off since there is no indicator on the cord. Third, they recommend you apply the product at bedtime and leave the remaining gel on your teeth overnight for best results. When you brush your teeth in the morning, it's very difficult to get the gel off your teeth. You can get some off, but the rest remains gritty on your teeth. Overall, I do not trust the efficacy of this product. My biggest recommendation is to make the gel a different color so you can see it on the brush and on your teeth so you know you've actually applied the needed product to make the whitening happen.

Loose bristles are no fun

I recently had a very poor experience with a Colgate 360 toothbrush. I was brushing my teeth, as per usual, when several of the bristles came loose and got lodged in the back of my throat. For a brand that’s been around for a couple hundred years, one would think that these types of issues wouldn’t happen. Imagine if you had 200 years to perfect a simple tool…

Total fail by scamming company.

I purchased a new product.

Issues
- cost $20 product in large can but size smaller that travel toothpaste. Scam.
- instructions Illegible. When I rang Woolworths they read out instructions. Some scary stuff in there but couldn’t read on product.
- scam website. Looks legit but cant contact via phone, email or chat. Doesn’t get any better.
-They now have my information and I’ve no way of contacting them to remove it. Catch 22
-Web site the same in England and America.
I wouldn’t buy any new dental product that warns of damage to eyes and warns about swallowing.
Fearful of using this or any other Colgate product after this experience.

Not fit for the purpose

Not fit for the purpose! Colgate max white overnight treatment. In a pen -like red dispenser with a brush. The product goes gloopy and unmanageable and the brush has become hard and unusable within two days! This is a total con I’m really annoyed. Can’t be used!

Horrific one-off experience!

I gave 3 stars because my review is about 1 particular product, whereas others are totally fine. But I warn all about the Colgate Sensitive Pro Relief Repair & Prevent (grey) toothpase. My usual toothpaste of the same range Multi-Protection (purple), which is perfect, was out of stock everywhere I looked, so unfortunately had to make do with this one. I hadn't tried it before, but if I'd have known what it was like, I would have steared well clear of it. It's literally painful on the taste buds and that's not an exaggeration! It corrupts your taste in a way I never thought possible and it effects taste for most of the day! Food does not taste the same at all, plus when drinking anything cold afterwards (ie. Breakfast) burns your toungue. You'll know what i mean if you try it. Sorry Colgate, but it's Horrific. But the Multi-Protection is perfect, please don't ever stop doing that one.
