This is probably one of the worst experiences I have ever had with any company ... ever. First, we had an estimate for just under 13k to move from NY to FL. They said our pick up would be on 8/31 and/or 9/1/26. They sent a 2 man crew after 2pm and one of them spent 3 hours taking inventory. They tried to double the estimate and I immediately called another moving company. Note here, Colonial sub-contracts everything to another moving company. In this case Imobli from NYC. I called Colonial and they told me there would be 4 more laborers on the way. Never happened. So, they wound up sending a full crew on 9/2/26 and got everything loaded onto 2 26ft moving trucks by EOD. We lost out 350bucks on a VRBO we couldn't use because they were late. Our Delivery date was 9/4 to 9/8 on the paperwork. We wound up getting our belonging on 9/11/26 Colonial discounted us 150.00 for late delivery. Gee, thanks a lot. We had to spend another 500.00 on extra days at the VRBO waiting for our stuff. After unpacking our belongings, we have a lot of damages. They some broke the main support for our dining room table which is 3/4" plywood which too at least 2000lbs of pressure to break. They broke 2 legs of an antique cabinet handed down from my grandfather. It's probably 100 years old and the craftsmanship doesn't exist anymore. They also destroyed a paper shredder, broke an adjustable bed and stole a 6ft stepladder. Many other items were scratched or damaged in addition. I can't think of a time I have been more dissatisfied than this.

I would say the drivers and movers on both sides of our transaction was great. Super friendly and very professional. I would have liked better communication with the people I dealt with on the phone. I called a few times and never received calls back. When they called me i felt like it was always a different person. That’s why I rated 4 stars not 5. My cars and furniture was delivered perfectly with great communications for the drivers. All in all it was great and these guys worked their tails off moving up 3 flights of stairs for me

We are months down the road from our nightmare move with colonial and still unpacking damaged items. These people claim to teach workers how to pack but that is bogus as far as we experienced. This company is the worst.

The organization as a whole was strong. The initial phone call and the subsequent follow up was thorough

All the people I talked and worked with were friendly, professional and helpful to help resolve all concerns and needs. The on-site packers were efficient and the driver was helpful explaining the process

They were professional and courteous throughout. They made it look easy. I won’t worry about any sort of damage at all. I recommend Jump Street to anyone who needs to move. Delivery was also a breeze.

my experience with colonial movers was excellent on both the nj loading to the florida delivery and all updates by staff communication throughout the move . I highly recommend their services

Colonial was great! They are extremely responsive, they called and checked in every bit of the way. The pickup and drop-off crew were kind and helpful. They actually showed up early. Shout-out to Anthony, Niya,Priscilla (might be the wrong name but she works with Niya).

Colonial bent over backward to accommodate a last-minute interstate shipment of antique heirloom furniture when we suddenly had to move my mother into assisted living and close her apartment. The work involved arranging custom crating by a third party for a large marble top from the dresser. Within a week of my first call everything had been crated, picked up, and delivered safely two states away. Subcontracted services were excellent, as was customer service coordination and follow-up. I definitely will contact Colonial for any future needs.

Colonial Vanlines is the worse moving company I have ever experienced (9/2/2026). If I could give them a zero I would. If you are looking for a moving company, please DO NOT select Colonial Vanlines. Here are the main issues with Colonial Vanlines that I experienced: 1. Initially was told they would pack one day and load the next; didn’t happen. 2. Was told that each room would be color coded and labeled; didn’t happen. 3. Colonial sent a truck that could not take all of my goods and had to load a portion of my shipment into a second truck which went to storage which I was told my goods were going to be shipped from point A to point B, with no storage; didn’t happen. 4. Colonial has failed to schedule my secondary shipment after more than a week. 5. The customer service is the worse and continue to tell me call after call that my shipment is being scheduled; being scheduled; being scheduled. It’s ridiculous, Colonial Vanlines suckered me but please don’t fall for there games; they will not deliver. So, do yourself a favor, select a different moving company other than Colonial Vanlines.
Here’s the next part of the story. About two weeks after my goods when into storage, my secondary shipment finally get scheduled. Initially, it was to be delivered on September 23, then it was September 25, then finally on September 28, 2026, I received my secondary shipment. I won’t mention that I was told that my delivery was scheduled between 8AM and Noon. However, it was closer to 6PM when the driver finally arrived. As a customer, Colonial failed in every aspect of moving my goods. So, if you are looking for a moving company, DO NOT select Colonial, don’t get suckered like I did. Do yourself a favor and find another moving company.
In response to Colonial Van lines reply; in my opinion, if Colonial were serious about making things right, finding a resolution and improving their process so no other client would have the terrible experience that I had, they would be contacting me directly instead of writing a standardize public relations response. In my opinion, Colonial reply is simply a public relations clean up, so I’ll state it again, if you are looking for a moving company DO NOT select Colonial, please find another company to assist with your move.

Our recent moving experience with Colonial Van Lines was highly unsatisfactory and was compounded by the company's claims processes that appear to effectively limit their compensation obligations.
The cost for our interstate move of approximately 500 miles ended up at $14,361.67 - more than $3,000 higher than the original quote because of "additional packaging charges." We packed most items ourselves yet the moving crew decided to repack numerous items at their discretion levying an additional charge. The moving crew also did not take care in adequately protecting many expensive furniture items, which were damaged during the move including a cherry work desk, a living room couch and outdoor patio chairs.
Prior to the actual move, we paid an additional premium to declare a higher value for our items hoping to protect ourselves from damages during the move. However, the higher coverage value comes with a $1,000 deductible.
The damage claims process required extensive information and photographs of the damaged items along with a bill of lading. Based on our calculations the damage to our furniture exceeded several thousand dollars. After carefully following the company's claims procedure, many months later we were offered a "settlement" of $450 with the attached requirement to sign a full non-disclosure agreement. We expressed our displeasure with the offer but received no further communications with the company.
In our view, much of our dissatisfaction could have been avoided with better upfront communications,, particularly on charges for the move. Needless to say, we cannot recommend this company for any interstate moves.

Great coordination and flexibility. Had a snag with our closing which delayed our move in date three states away. They coordinated the delay and had our delivery arrive in perfect time. Constant contact and checking in made this a seamless experience.
Our driver was very good and the crew for packing and moving were excellent on both ends. I am very happy with the customer service from the first person who took my call to the followup agent at Colonial Van Lines. I plan to use them again for the second part of my move.
Speaking with Colonial through the process of what would be moved was great. Paul was wonderful. Pickup for my furniture was scheduled for July 13th and no one showed. The pickup was scheduled for the 13th because I had a closing in North Carolina on the 15th and I had to drive there. I called Colonial and they had no clue as to why the pickup was not done. It took me all day to get the pickup rescheduled. I had to repeatedly state that I needed pickup quickly since I had a closing to go to. Unfortunately, it was rescheduled for the 14th which didn't leave me much time to get to North Carolina. The representative that I spoke to assured me she would follow through and get back to me. She would be my contact. I never heard from her again once I finally got a pickup scheduled the next day. I let her messages with no response. I had to drive through the night to make it to my closing on the 15th. The subcontractors were friendly, but when my furniture was delivered there was a lot of damage. I was fortunate to speak with Trish Teto when I called about my damaged furniture. I was so upset and angry. She walked me through the process of filing a claim, listened to my frustration and was so very sweet, calm, caring and knowledgeable. She is a super star! Thank you Trish.
I hired Colonial for a move from NJ to Illinois. They assured me that they are not a broker and are the actual Movers. They will tell you that "we have a DOT number and you shouldn't deal with brokers"...They are %100 brokers. I promise a company called APEX Moving will show up at your move. Colonial will be nowhere in site. When Colonial gives you a date on when your belongings will be delivered, make sure to make the date as close as possible. Example: If they say your stuff can be delivered August 4 – 11. Your belongings will come the 11th. It gives them more time to look through your stuff.
Since Colonial Van Lines gets their cut as a broker, the first thing APEX will do is try to upcharge you. They tried charging me 2700 to box up my televisions which were supposed to be already included. The driver must get a cut of whatever they upcharge.
They were supposed to come to my house with a tractor trailer for moving a 5 bedroom house. They showed up with a box truck. They taped my furniture to the back of the moving truck. They will pack up your belongings onto the truck, than unload your belongings at their facilities, search for any valuables, repack the boxes, than pack up your stuff in a new truck and send it to you. Make that make sense.
The worst part, they blatantly stole an 80inch TV from me. One TV just disappeared. They will steal thousands from you and than send you a settlement for a few hundred dollars. That’s a great business plan. Steal a lot more than what you are paying out.
Colonial Van Lines is a great moving company. The people are professional and courteous. They are punctual and took great care of our belongings.
I used to work for this company.
I strongly do not recommend this company — either to customers looking for moving services or to drivers considering working with them.
I worked with this company personally, and based on my experience, there were serious issues with both customer communication and driver payments. While working there, I witnessed customers being given inaccurate information about delivery dates, the location of their belongings, and when they should expect their shipments.
I also worked together with another driver, and we split our income and expenses 50/50. The company withheld a $7,500 deposit from us, which we were told would be returned after we stopped working with them. That deposit was never returned.
Instead, we were told that money from the deposit had been used to pay customer damage claims. We were provided with claims alleging that certain items had been damaged. However, when we personally contacted some of the customers to ask whether their claims had actually been paid, they told us they had not received payment. Meanwhile, we were being told that those claims had already been paid using money withheld from us.
Based on what I personally experienced, I cannot recommend this company to drivers looking for work. I also cannot recommend it to customers trusting a company with their household belongings.
At the time of writing this review, I am also aware of extremely high driver turnover. New drivers, including people with very limited or no experience, are regularly being brought in, while others leave shortly afterward. In my experience, this contributes to missed deadlines, delivery problems, and customers waiting far longer than expected for their belongings.
This review reflects my personal experience working with this company and the information I personally received from customers I dealt with.
If you are considering working for this company or hiring them for your move, I strongly recommend doing your own research, carefully reviewing all contracts and deductions, keeping copies of every document, and documenting all payments and communications.
Please be careful.
The driver Jose was excellent . He carefully and conscientiously packed and unpacked all our staff . He kept his word and delivered on the day and time he promised .
