Sadly intransigent and apparently blame free !

This is an email exchange detailing our own experience.  Yours may differ. Our dogs have travelled all of Southern Europe in a car. They are not delicate flowers and have robust constitutions. They were presented in good health and after 2 stays of less than 48 hours they were virtually starved and sick on return. It seems we are entirely at fault and the kennels are "squeaky clean".  Perhaps this is not the case.  Time will tell. Life is too short and we are moving on, but I feel it right others be made aware. Only then will such organisations step back up to the standards which gained them an award in recent history.

Dear Sirs

I write to alert you there is something in your environment which is causing dogs to become sick while staying with you.

Our two dogs have stayed with you twice since the 5th October.  After the first short two night stay they were both returned to us with sickness, extremely hungry and with diarrhoea.  Upon return to us the kennel person said they had bad stomachs and should be kept off food.  We accepted this and got on with life.

After this, they stayed at other kennels of the same name in where we were staying.  They were there a week with no problems, were fit and healthy on return to us.

Today we picked our dogs up from you and were again ushered outside away from other people in your reception and was told that they had bad stomachs and should not be fed today.  Our GSD was excited to see us but on return home was in low mood and was violently sick.

Our dogs are extremely healthy individuals who have solid stools every single day.  They are in exceptionally good condition.

Had this happened once, I could accept it.  But twice ... !  This is no coincidence and the warnings given to owners on departure appear to be a regular activity.

It appears to me that there is a risk to animals from staying at your establishment and given the time interval between our first and second visits, it is apparent you are not on top of it.

I would like an immediate and complete refund.  I am not at this time proposing to take this any further.

Your faithfully

Dear #########

Yago and Indie’s stay at Country Boarding:
I have ascertained from two of my senior kennel assistants, one of whom handed you Yago and Indie back yesterday, that neither dog had been sick during their stay with us from 28th to 30th December. I mentioned to you that I had seen both Yago and Indie in their kennel and run yesterday morning because I wanted to feed them. However, they did not seem interested, even though they were very excited and bouncing about. I tried hand feeding but they were just very excited.

I did ask ##### to feed this back to you, which apparently, she did. Perhaps you misunderstood, but she did not say that their stomachs were upset but that they left their breakfast untouched. So when you picked them up they would not have had anything to eat for about for about 18 – 20 hours (we usually feed our dogs between 3-4pm and 8.30 – 9.00am.)

You stated that Yago was violently sick, but his stomach must have been empty unless you fed him on the way home? Also some dogs suffer from car sickness. Is it possible that this was a factor?

I am sorry that Yago was sick when you got home but I can assure that your dogs were well during their stay with us.

I wrote to you because I expect that you wanted an answer as soon as possible and if you need to speak to me on the phone about this matter further, please let me know and I will do so after the Bank Holiday weekend.

Kind Regards,

###########

MOST UNRELIABLE KENNEL

MOST UNRELIABLE KENNEL! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!
Almost thousands of pounds worth of holiday lost just because of their unprofessionalism.
Only HALF an hour after dropping our dog (great dane) at the kennel, I received a call from them telling me to come to pick up my dog as they couldn't get him in his kennel (ridiculous they can't even do their own job), they said straight away "come and pick him up, as he can't stay in our kennel", zero consideration, they didn't give us another option or solution, even when we said "if the problem is getting him in the kennel, what if we go there and we put him in the kennel" and they kept saying no.
They didn't care about us losing our flight which was that same night, our booked hotel, all the wasted money...
They only tried for 30 MINUTES!! (and it was more than enough for them).

After a long call trying to give them a solution they came to me saying that is my fault because I had the option to come a couple of days before to see how my dog behaves, WHICH I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT I COULD DO THAT. But anyway, it doesn't matter because my dog behaviour is NOT the problem and Im gonna tell you why.

Thank God my husband found another kennel available for that same day.
>>>>>>>Tynehill Boarding Kennels<<<<<<<
(which was much cheaper than the first one).
We had ZERO problems with that kennel, we explain them our situation and they even stayed opened one hour more so we could drop our dog off. At the kennel the man was able to get our dog in the kennel with absolutely zero problems, he even left us get in the kennel with him to
say goodbye. (pics attached)
In this kennel we were able to bring our dog blanket (which he is very attached with) and his toy, and at country boarding they didn't let us.

When collecting him after our holiday they told us they didn't have any problems getting him in and out of the kennel during walk time.

I repeat, MOST UNRELIABLE KENNEL! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!
Just a place with a bunch of careless, lazy people that doesn't have any kind of knowledge of dog handling.

You were a new customer and you asked us to board your Great Dane with us for the first time.
Your dog arrived muzzled (which is very unusual for that breed of dog) and was booked in for a week’s board. Prior to the booking process we collect information about clients’ pets, such as up-to-date vaccinations and temperament of the dog. If a dog is likely to show aggression we recommend a trial beforehand.
There was no reason to expect a Great Dane to be aggressive and you did not inform us beforehand.
At our boarding kennels we pride ourselves to interact with and exercise the pets several times a day and it is important that we can approach and handle the dogs for that reason.
In the case of your Great Dane, this was not possible because we could not even manage to bring him in to the accommodation. The dog was very reluctant and nervous and we were concerned for the safety of both the animal and our staff. Eventually we contacted you to say that this was a big problem and could you please come and collect your dog. We understood that this was disappointing, and you offered to come and help the dog into the kennel. We should not worry about ever getting him out from the kennel and that he would be okay for the week.
This was unacceptable to us and does not meet our animal welfare policy and also contravenes our licensing requirements. Reluctantly, we therefore declined your request.
Our staff, far from lazy and incompetent, are experienced, very caring and all qualified to a high standard and despite best efforts did not manage to calm the Great Dane enough to bring him into the accommodation.
We are pleased that you found alternative boarding facilities, kennels which evidently did not mind your request of leaving the dog to himself for the week.

I visited the place for a viewing and the place was very clean. I wasn't allowed to see any of the dogs in their habitat here as I would disturb them. I was concerned all dogs had their gates open to their run except one that was barking the others were quite. I saw 3 members of staff only they were very friendly, no dogs were being walked which I questioned due to apparently having walks 4 times a day but reception told me 2 times a day and it was lunch time so one should have been out especially as I was told they have 4 walks and I was there about 45 minutes. The VIP area was lovely looking. I felt the place was not open and honest enough for me to trust then with my dogs. The knowledge for the on going kennel cough spread was not known and they are mixing dogs which I love but also safety measures should be in place.

Country Boarding Kennels are a first…

Country Boarding Kennels are a first rate home from home for my dog, Tag. He loves going there and they I think love him. I have to be careful now when he has to stay there because he knows certain words which get him excited and he knows he is going to his favourite "fun place." So I can only use them when we get near to CBK, and even then he senses were we are as soon as we arrive there and he get so excited.
I have a very close bond with Tag. We have been through some very rough times together lately. He is my best friend, so loyal and loving and he knows when I am down and he comforts me. I could not live without him. Therefore I would not trust leaving him anywhere that I knew he wasn't going to be happy. So Country Boarding Kennels is the best as far as we are concerned.

Enthusiastic

Enthusiastic, caring, knowledgeable team - who clearly love what they do. Good facilities & very well managed. My 8 month old puppy loves going to his afternoon puppy care. We have found the Puppy classes really helpful, well organised and as much fun as they can be in the Winter months when you are stuck outside because of a pandemic! He had his first grooming session too and Renate listened to what we wanted and gave us back a dog that we still recognised and untraumtised! Thank you!

Physio sessions with Tom have proved…

Physio sessions with Tom have proved invaluable on many fronts. Physical improvements alongside psychological and the development of trust. I have a rescue dog who requires patience , a calm demeanor and understanding with a will to persist. Trust was well earned. I have no hesitation in promoting Tom's ability and knowledge how to put physio skills into practice. Hydrotherapy sessions are one of the highlights of my dogs day and she is clearly comfortable and happy in Toms presence. Highly recommended.

Recommend Country Boarding

Our Labrador was very well cared for and looked so fit and healthy when we picked him up. It was clear from his behaviour that he loved the staff and would have been happy to stay longer!
We will only use this boarding kennel in the future. The care and attention is excellent and highly recommend it.

I was a little phased at first as I dropped my puppy off for her first visit. I couldn’t stay nor leave a toy or treats and she was going to be there for an hour plus. However she came out looking fabulous and appeared happy and to have had a positive experience. We are going back again soon. Hoping this time goes as well.

Mine is a difficult one but Country Boarding has managed her well every time she stays with them.
Country Boarding may not be the cheapest in the area but they are certainly one of the best.
Good facilities too as we often hired their park for a peaceful walk, just me and the dog. The park is fenced off so I can let the dog off lead. There were a pair of Red Kites nesting nearby last time we were there. it's nice seeing them in the sky.

I don’t know what we’d do without…

I don’t know what we’d do without Country Boarding! Our three-year-old border collie has been staying with them since he was young, and he’s always happy to go — never once even looks back at us! We also regularly use their Walk-a-dog services, especially when I’m travelling for work and my husband is working in the city during the day, and it’s so nice to know our dog gets plenty of exercise and playtime with other dogs but the location is secure and he can’t wander off. I’ve only just discovered their grooming services—with a collie we don’t need grooming very often, but they have saved the day when his fur has begun to get matted and dreadlocked. He came home yesterday looking amazing — Renate really takes the time to do a good job. Thank you!!
