I submitted a claim on 20/04/2026 after my car suffered rodent damage to its wiring. From the beginning, I experienced very poor communication and was left for several days without any updates. Since then, I have had to chase the claim repeatedly and have made more than 15 phone calls between 20/04/2026 and today, yet I still do not understand how my claim is being handled.
I have a fully comprehensive insurance policy, and the policy information gives the impression that customers are treated with care and professionalism. Unfortunately, my experience has been completely different. The handling of my claim has been disrespectful, unprofessional, and extremely slow. Weeks have passed without any meaningful action being taken.
My understanding of how a car insurance company should treat its customers has completely changed because of this experience. Despite having comprehensive cover, the company refused to take my car to one of their approved repair centres or provide me with a courtesy car while they assessed the situation. Instead, they said they needed to arrange for a specialist company to inspect the vehicle and determine whether the repair costs would make the car repairable or a total loss. This inspection alone took three weeks to arrange.
At present, I still have no vehicle or courtesy car. The engineer who inspected the car informed me that it would most likely be considered a total loss because of the extensive wiring damage. He advised me that he would send his report to the insurance company. Since then, I have spent another week chasing updates regarding the outcome of my claim and what decision has been made about my vehicle.
Each time I politely request a courtesy car until my vehicle is repaired or officially declared a total loss, my request is refused. I am repeatedly told that they cannot provide a courtesy car until they know whether the vehicle is repairable and when repairs would begin.
On 10/05/2026, I contacted them again for an update, but they still had no clear plan. They attempted to arrange repairs through another repair centre called Auto-Fix, but Auto-Fix refused to carry out the work. The insurer then decided to send the vehicle to a BMW dealership for another damage assessment. Last week, the BMW dealership contacted me directly and asked whether my insurance company was willing to cover the repair costs.
Today is 18/05/2026, and I still have no resolution, no vehicle, and no proper support from my insurer. This situation has caused serious disruption to my daily life. I am unable to take my children to school, complete essential shopping easily, or properly support my disabled wife, for whom the car is extremely important in our daily routine.
I have now raised a formal complaint and requested compensation for my travel expenses, the stress and inconvenience caused, and the disruption and cancellation of our normal activities and routine trips.
I am extremely disappointed with the service I have received. I had previously seen positive reviews about Covea Insurance, which makes this experience even more upsetting and difficult to understand.
Following the latest update, I am extremely concerned and disappointed that my claims department is now refusing either to repair my vehicle or to declare it a total loss. Instead, I am being pressured into accepting a cash settlement and arranging the repairs myself through BMW.
I do not understand why I am being forced to manage the repair process personally when I have fully comprehensive insurance and expected the insurer to handle matters directly with the repairer. This approach has made me feel very suspicious and uncomfortable about the way my claim is being handled.
Furthermore, BMW informed me that they require approximately £2,000 upfront simply to begin stripping and inspecting the vehicle before any final repair costs can even be confirmed. I do not believe it is reasonable or fair to expect me to take on this financial risk and responsibility myself.
For this reason, I refused the cash settlement offer. I expect the insurer either to arrange and manage the repair process directly with an approved repairer or to properly assess the vehicle for total loss in accordance with the terms of my policy.
The handling of this claim has caused me considerable stress, inconvenience, and loss of confidence in your service.

Alexandra at Covea was very helpful, and explained everything in simple terms, and made sure I was happy with the progress of my claim. As there ave been a few 'challenges' with my Claim it was very reassuring to speak to someone who understood the situation, and was empathetic.

If I could put negative stars I would.
I am not their customer, but one of their customer claim for a damage in my house.
It took 12 months, and probably 100 emails to get there, and the case is only 90% closed. Luckily it is a superficial damaged. Im wondering what would happen if the damaged was more significant... in fact I dont even want to know... I just want my claim to be sorted and forget it...
The claim handling team is not reactive and their method of handling claim is only putting the burden in the claimant.
I have contacted 3 senior managers and none of them answered.
Avoid at any cost...

Thank him for me He was very patient when the signal was bad I was unfortunately in a area near the sea and in the car as it was raining The follow up from the repair garage was excellent too Excellent service thank you

This has genuinely been one of the worst customer experiences I’ve had.
I took out insurance through RAC, only to later discover the actual insurer handling the claim was Covéa Insurance.
My vehicle was stolen, later recovered, and released by the police. The insurer collected the vehicle on Thursday(07.05.26)and told me it would be delivered to the repair garage. Days later, the garage still had not received it, despite me being told over the phone that it would arrive “before noon”.
At this point, the claim is still ongoing with no clear resolution, and I honestly do not even know where my vehicle is.
The communication throughout has been extremely poor — constant chasing, repeated callbacks, conflicting information, and no real accountability. Every time I call, I just get told “sorry” with no actual progress or assistance.
What has made the situation even worse is the lack of support while being left without a vehicle for nearly two weeks. They do not provide a courtesy car unless the vehicle is first assessed by the garage and depending on availability — yet they are not even getting the vehicle to the garage for that process to begin.
This whole experience has caused huge stress, disruption to work, and unnecessary frustration during an already difficult situation following the theft.
I completely understand that claims can take time, but the lack of communication, organisation, and customer support has been incredibly disappointing. Choosing this insurer has honestly felt like a huge mistake.

I spoke to two people the first I couldn’t understand what they were saying. Then they transferred me to the underwriter called Taff. He was brilliant every thing was explained fully and told me exactly what was going to happen. A rare thing these days. Thank you Taff.

I had my dog insured with them and he developed a number of health problems over the years . Each claim was dealt with quickly , efficiently and with sympathy . Recently I lost him and they were so kind and sympathetic and reminded me to put in a last claim which they dealt with directly with my vet as I was still upset . They have been an excellent insurance company .

I was dealt with by a real person who was pleasant and most helpful. I was NOT made to feel like a potential fraudster intent on defrauding the company by an excessive claim. The claim was dealt with promptly, in full, and without fuss.
This contrasts with my very recent experience with British Airways (BA) who lost my luggage, and about 100 others as well, on a DIRECT flight from Heathrow to Santiago, Chile. I had to claim out-of-pocket expenses using their very "clunky" website that was difficult to navigate and near impossible to do so on a phone. Their website/BA managed to loose most of my attachments of images of receipts etc. and had to be sent again along with images of my passport. The BA claim was dealt with relatively promptly, but not in full. I shall avoid flying BA where possible from now on.

I found both members of staff to be caring, understanding and very supportive. They both made the stressful experience so much easier to handle and helped me to move forward in a more positive way. Thank you so much.
