A great place to do some work on the…

A great place to do some work on the side with good pay. I've been doing work at DA for about a month, mainly just in my free time, and it's been a smooth experience throughout. No issues with payment, and a diverse variety of projects to do.

A lifesaver for the past two years!

I've been with DataAnnotation for just over two years, and I highly value the opportunity to work here. The projects are mentally stimulating, often fun, and many pay $30+ per hour. Doing work from home on my own schedule is highly beneficial. The only downsides are that the work isn't salaried or contracted, so you never know if you'll lose the opportunity to work for the platform, as workers rarely receive feedback. There are also no benefits.

Great side gig

Great side gig for bilingual or multilingual people. The tasks are interesting, with clear instructions, and the pay rate is well above that of many work-from-home freelance jobs.

Required paid subscription but provided no work

I was added to a couple of projects that asked me to pay for a subscription to work with the promise that they would reimburse it. I never received any tasks for those projects, and since I could never work there, I didn't receive the reimbursement.

I work as a bi-lingual worker doing AI reinforcement learning in my native language

I work as a bi-lingual worker doing reinforcement learning for AI in my native language with DataAnnotation. I found out about this job via a direct message (sent out automatically) on LinkedIn, in which it was claimed my research background made me an interesting candidate. The sign-up proces was relatively easy, taking about 1.5 hours with the assessment test included, and there was no 'interview' to speak of.

I have a regular, stable, part-time job in real life. DataAnnotation is great for making a bit of money on the side, but I think that for most people it cannot function as a central career. In fact, it by definition is not a career, because there is no real advancement to speak of. You might be made an admin of a project after some time, but there is no growth within the company. You are just an outside contractor. The projects don't pay badly (some up to 40 euros an hour before taxes, but these are rare), but actually having work is a relatively rare thing.

The projects are doled out on a first-come-first-serve basis, and very often I go weeks or even months without seeing a single project on the dashboard. I know there are people who get way more work (often with engineering, programming, or other specialized knowledge which the AI models need to be trained on), but for the pure linguistic side of things, it's often highly sparse. As a result, I have made about 2000 euros over the course of 5 months, and a good portion of that will go to taxes as well.

With that said, Data Annotation can be a good option for many people. It is not a scam: you actually get paid fully and on time. The projects are explained well, and there is some level of admin support if you are lost on what to do. However, it is not a company that offers support on taxes, there are no benefits, and the hours most likely do not contribute to a pension. It is essentially an off-grid type of work, that allows you to make a bit of money.

The advantage is therefore that it is highly flexible. You can work when you want and how you want (provided there is any project available to you at all). The downside is that you have no way of knowing how little or how much you will make, and that there is no transparency at all. On forums discussing this work on Reddit, it becomes clear that sometimes people are just dropped, and no clear reason is given. The work is like a black box: you might work there for years and then get dropped. There is no support system, no applying for unemployment based on this job, no HR person to turn to. So you buy into a little side gig with endless flexibility, but have none of the protections that come with an actual job with a contract.

DA provides various fun projects!

I've been on Dataannotation for a little over a year and I am happy so far :) DA provides various AI related projects. Because all the project have different purpose and style, the work never gets boring :)
However the work come and go so sometimes there's no work for me to do even though when I have time.

Convenient and well-paying

I can pick up work in my free time and have no pressure to work certain hours which is amazing for my schedule. One slight downside is that work isn't always available when I want it but that is quite rare.

Great to earn extra money!

is a great platform to work with, especially if you’re looking to earn extra money. The assignments are interesting and the pay rate is very high.
However, it’s important to note that as a bilingual worker, you may have weeks with a lot of tasks followed by months with none.

flexible and surprisingly rewarding

my freelancing experience has been really positive so far. the work is fully remote and very flexible. the task for each project are clear and easy to follow once I get used to the guidelines. though sometimes they feel repetitive and boring. the pay varies by project, and work availability isn't always consistent, but overall, it's a good option if you want a flexible job and want to learn how AI models are trained, just like I did.

I really enjoy working for…

I really enjoy working for Dataannotation. The projects are fun with usually clear and comprehensive instructions. The workflow is pretty well organized on a very simple, intuitive interface, with additional support by project Admins whether in the platform itself or on Slack. In my experience, the pay is commensurate with the effort and proficiency required for each task.

Great company, quality projects

I've been working at DA in the bilingual team for a bit more than a year and it's been a great experience so far. Projects are compelling and quality work is valued. It's a fully remote position which allows for great flexibility, but workload consistency is not guaranteed.

Good company to work remote

Remote work where you decide when you want to work and how much. Good salary and easy and swift pay out. Fun projects to work on. Sometimes no work available for extended periods of time.
