I had a great experience last week with Diagnostic Orders Direct. My son needed a lumbar MRI to rule out a stress fracture (xray was negative, but MRI was recommended by his pediatrician and physical therapist as a more definitive diagnosis). We are on a very high deductible health plan (so basically out of pocket) and our insurance is VERY picky about what doctors we can see. His pediatrician's office does not give MRI orders and told us we would need to get an orthopedic specialist appointment who would then officially write the order for a lumbar MRI. With our insurance, finding a pediatric orthopedic specialist that we can see on our plan, actually getting the referral to them, scheduling the appointment (likely weeks later), getting the MRI order, getting preapproval from the insurance company for the MRI, etc would have taken countless hours of calling around, weeks of waiting, lots of money for a specialist appointment, etc... all of which was avoided by one 5 minute intake form with Diagnostic Orders Direct, and a brief same-day call with Tod Work, MSN. We had a very detailed MRI order in hand the same day, and I was able to get an MRI appointment for just a few days later at a stand-alone imaging center near us, at a much cheaper self-pay rate than my high deductible insurance plan would have cost. No extra scheduling, no specialist visit, no waiting on insurance red tape, and money saved!
