Warning - dishonest car rental company

Warning – Dishonest Car Rental Company!

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this car rental company after our experience in Sardinia. Everything seemed fine when we picked up the car, and the vehicle itself was as expected. However, after we returned the car in perfect condition and on time, we never got our €150 deposit back.

Since returning home, I’ve tried multiple times to contact the company – both by phone and email – but they simply don’t respond. It feels like they are deliberately ignoring all communication regarding refunds.

This feels like a scam, and I strongly urge others to avoid this company. There are plenty of other car rental services in Sardinia – choose one that’s more reliable and transparent to avoid going through the same experience.

Billing a damage without a proof!!

After the rental staff arrived too late to take back the car, I personally left them the key in order to catch my flight. Later, they charged me for damage that they never proved and that I did not cause. I repeatedly asked for photos or any kind of evidence, but they never responded. I will now consult a lawyer.

Abusive behaviour. Awful experience

At pickup in Catania, Sicily, they charged me €90 extra because I was two weeks under 25 years old. This abusive behaviour in a situation where I cannot say no and am forced to pay to begin my vacation is regrettable. The company used its power to force me to pay and I demand therefore a restitution. I returned the car impecable without any scratch nor nothing. In spite of that the company has not responded to my demand to refund me this abusive charge. The unfriendlines and inflexibility of the workers at Catania didn't made it better.

Great car but expensive insurance

The car was great and the pickup was also good. The only thing that you should keep in mind is that the zero access insurance from the desk is very expensive. It costs €55 daily, when normally from other companies that I hired from Catania airport was €29 daily

Bad service. Customer service person lied.

Rented a car in Milan Bergamo airport. Had a terrible experience from start to finish. Had booked a Mid size SUV, but the customer representative mentioned that since we were late a smaller car was available, even though we were almost on time. And there was no mention of this, any time before.
She offered me a similar SUV at a premium price, which I declined. Only after another colleague intervened that a slightly bigger car was provided.
She mentioned I had to return the car with the same fuel level and in clean condition. I agreed to the same fuel level, but requested that I will pay for in house cleaning service for which she declined saying they dont have one.
On return I had filled to the same fuel level, but an unclean car. I requested the same customer service person about a minimal charge for the cleaning. For which she responded, that I had to pre-book the cleaning service before taking the car out which was 25Euros and now it will be 50Euros. She lied.
Shameful service, tricking customers where possible.
Will avoid them.

You get what you pay for...

We wish we could give this company a good review as the rental car was priced unbelievably well a the pick up experience was relatively easy with a pleasant woman helping us with our car. Sadly, upon returning the car, our opinion of this company changed completely. We were accused of causing a tiny chip in the windshield after 2 women circled the car like sharks for about 10 minutes. I have never seen such a fine-tooth comb inspection of a rental car before in my life. Luckily, we had photos and videos of the car when we picked it up that showed a tiny speck in the same place the women were pointing to. Unfortunately, after about 35 minutes of back and forth, with the agent asserting that the tiny speck in our photos/videos was not the same tink speck that she had in her photos (which she would not allow us to see) we had to leave to catch our flight. We were charged over 300 euros for a tiny ding that- according to photographic evidence- was already there when we picked up the car. We are currently disputing this charge with our credit card company but would not recommend this company to anyone. We are pretty convinced at this point that this is a scam- since the car was only 35 euros for 10 days with unlimited mileage, they are likely making their money by accusing people of casing damage that they were not responsible for.

I wish I could give them more than 5 stars!

We had reserved a Vauxhall Corsa or similar from a different website with Differental at Olbia Airport.
When we arrived we saw that they were going to give us a Fiat Panda which we didn't like.
My husband went to look at what other options they have to see if we could get something else and saw a Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
He asked about the price and after some negotiation we got it for a little more than we had paid and they had it washed for us so it would be nice and clean.
They told us that the car is brand new we got in we saw that the car had only been driven 14 kilometres.
The staff were so friendly and helpful and gave us plenty of advice about places to visit in the area.
I would highly recommend choosing them for your car rental. I know I will be!

I pre-booked a family car through… Discovercars

I pre-booked a family car through Discovercars and reesulted with Differental in Catania airport, Sicily. The whole experience was much easier then expected. I was kinda afraid that they will scam or extra charge - but all was as agreed online. Nice service! My only suggestion to other travellers - for Sicily streets choose as small car as possible ;)

Don’t rent a car via this company

Don’t rent a car via this company! When we brought back the car they’ve asked for the keys and said that they would do the check of the car later. We got an invoice an hour later charging us over 700€ for a damage that we didn’t cause. We went back and they said that we were the first costumers using the car (over 800km down when we got it…) and this just had to be our fault. We had pictures and could prove that it wasn’t… they claimed that they refund us… we will see! But I definitely can’t recommend this company!

Please do not use this company

Please do not use this company. They engage in extremely aggressive and dishonest practices. We were 1.5 hours late to pick up our car due to our flight landing late. The company had our flight number. Their car park was full but they said our car had gone, clearly untrue. They then charged us double for a replacement car. I have given them one star, they don’t even deserve that but there is no option for no stars.

A Terrible Rental Experience*

I had the *worst car rental experience* with *DIFFERENTAL*. The customer service was absolutely unacceptable. The representative was *aggressive, rude, and extremely unpleasant* throughout the interaction.

Although I had booked a small car, they tried to downgrade me to a *mini vehicle*, which was not what I reserved. Additionally, they *refused to accept my credit card*, claiming it was a debit card, and insisted I purchase *extra insurance at €35 per day*. I've been in Italy for *four months* and this was my *ninth rental*, all with the same card and *never any issues* before.

In the end, I was *unable to rent the car*, and had to find another vehicle last minute with a different company, which cost me *an additional €100*.

I strongly *do not recommend DIFFERENTAL* to anyone looking for reliable, respectful, and professional service.

I rented a car in Venice

I rented a car in Venice, Italy.

They wanted to charge me an additional fee that was different from the contractually agreed rate. I recommend documenting everything by email and receipts. I have just been informed that the amount I paid as a security deposit on the day of the rental, which was supposed to be returned within 20 days, can be refunded within 40 days.

I can use only a word, Scam.
You are charged EUR 1300 when return the rental car, they point a invisible dot on windscreen, described a damage. They just charge you credit card, no damage report, no repairing doc, no response.

They can take 40 days to pay back a deposit.

They didn't accept my embossed credit card, which I've used multiple times at other car rental agencies. So I was forced to pay 225 euro exta.

They also haven't paid back my deposit in over 2 weeks, they say it can take up to 40 days.

Worst experience ever

Worst experience ever. First, we waited for transportation to the garage where the car was picked up for over an hour, from problems with communication and agreement regarding the car pick-up to the fact that we were advised that it was best to cancel the reservation and that the full amount would be returned to us, but of course it was not returned.

Differental scam

I had a very disappointing experience with Differental AutoUnion Car Rental. After returning the vehicle in perfect condition, I was wrongfully charged €1277 for alleged damages. The inspection was conducted without my presence. Additionally, €700 was deducted from my account without any justification, and the company has ignored my repeated attempts to resolve the issue. Their lack of transparency and poor customer service make them highly unreliable. Do not trust this company and be extremely cautious when renting from them. I managed to get the guarantee money back by disputing the transaction at the bank. The company accepted the dispute and returned the money, an example of a set up scam and their aim to extract money from customers through illegal methods. I suggest you insist and claim your money through your bank.
