Not a four star experience
I don't usually write hotel reviews, but on this occasion I feel it's important to share my experience to help others make an informed decision.
I stayed at Djerba Aqua Resort for one week with my family, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing from start to finish.
From our very first night, our room was full of mosquitoes, making it difficult to sleep. The air conditioning barely worked, which only made the problem worse, and the fridge was ineffective. The room also had just one working electrical socket for charging devices. Although there was a USB charging port, it did not work at all.
The food was another major disappointment. There was very little variety throughout the week, with many of the same dishes being served repeatedly. To make matters worse, there were flies all over the food, yet very little was covered to protect it. The dining area itself was extremely hot, with little to no ventilation, making mealtimes uncomfortable.
The staff were, in general, unfriendly and unhelpful. There is a very noticeable tipping culture at this hotel, and it genuinely felt as though if you didn't tip from the beginning of your stay, you were ignored or treated as less important. Customer service should not depend on whether guests hand over extra money. As English-speaking guests, we also found many members of staff to be dismissive and far less welcoming than they were towards others.
The entertainment was almost entirely in French. While this wasn't a major issue for us personally, English-speaking guests should be aware that it is difficult to participate or feel included.
Overall, this hotel fell well below expectations. Poor room facilities, repetitive food, hygiene concerns, unfriendly staff and an atmosphere where tipping appears to influence the level of service made this a very disappointing holiday. I would not return and would not recommend this hotel to anyone expecting the standard of a four-star resort.
