AVOID!

Arrived to collect the car at the agreed time and told I had to pay an out of hours office fee?

Then they wanted me to sign the contract in the dark without seeing the car and wouldn't note a broken aerial and other faults on the bodywork.

The car would stall at the traffic lights etc as the revs/tickover was too low

But when I returned the car they refused to return my over €900 excess and said it would take 20-30 days to be refunded?

Got home and emailed them regarding the refund, they claimed it had been processed, checked with by bank who said it hadn't so told them by bank has requested proof of refund and surprise surprise it was actioned later that day

Car ended up being 170 Euros more expensive than promised

I rented the car through discovercars.com
It is not clear in the agreement that it is not possible to pay the deposit in cash. It only says that it is not possible to reserve the deposit on a debet card. We therefore believed that it was possible to pay the deposit (800 euro) in cash and get it back when returning the car. The rental Company made it clear for us when picking up the car that it was impossible and that we had to pay a much higher amount for the car if payed with cash, otherwise the pre-ordered insurance wouldn’t be valid.

Misdescribed poor quality car

I hired a car with Alma Car Hire, through Zestcarrental.com. The car was supplied by driverentcar.gr trading as Mega Rentals. This is the complaint I have sent to all three companies. The photo clearly shows a new model Nissan Micra. The car that was supplied was an old model, which is considerably smaller than the new model. I chose this deal for a number of reasons, including that it hold two medium size suitcases. Although I realise the Micra is smaller than many cars, I was reassured that it was the new model that I would be hiring and thus hold two medium suitcases. The car supplied only just about held one medium sized suitcase. Furthermore, your website clearly states that the car hire office and location of the vehicle as being Corfu Airport. Neither were at the airport. We had to walk along the main road, part of which has no footpath, for about 10 minutes, with our luggage and cross over a busy junction which has no footpath and no pedestrian crossing to get to the car hire depot. On arrival there were no other customers in the office, but it still took the employees half an hour to issue the car to us. The car supplied had c46,000 km on the clock. However, it was abundantly clear that this car was very old. I suspect the mileage reading had either been tampered with, or it had "gone round the clock" and actually done c146,000 km. There were loud banging sounds coming from the back axle. The hand brake only just about held the car. One of the front tyres was so flat that the warning light came on on the dashboard after we had travelled a short distance. When I tried to reinflate this tyre at a petrol station, it was very difficult to get the air line to work with the tyre valve (there was no problem putting air in the other tyres, so I think the tyre in question had a faulty valve). The wheels on the car were rusty. The gears were clunky and hard to engage. The trim on the driver's front seat support became partly detached, and revealed that the seat frame was rusty. This car was not as described, and not in a satisfactory condition. Your website is misleading in that it shows the car to be a new model Nissan Micra, which will hold two medium suitcases, and is located at the airport. Non of these is true. Furthermore, the car supplied was of a poor quality and it is questionable as to whether or not it would pass an M.O.T. I look forward to hearing from you as to how you wish to compensate me for this breach of contract.
