Would give no stars but unfortunately cannot. Applied online as I needed to change my paper licence into a photo licence. Wanted to check on me more. I am a British citizen and have changed my licence through moving home 4 times no problem but there is now. Filled out a form sent to me but I made an error so first time my fault. Cost me £6.85 to send having my birth certificate etc in it. They sent it back due to my error and it cost another£6.85. They had my phone number and email so could have asked me that they required my marriage licence to check my name, has been my name for almost 49 years. It cost me another £6.85 to send as they kept sending birth certificate etc back and required it all to be sent back to them each time. Eventually I got my new licence last week. My husband applied for his online being 70 and had no problems. I know things have to be checked because of criminals etc but for god sake this was too much, 65 years in this Country, name changed once in these years 49 years ago, what is to check. Dread it when I have to get one at 70 if this what they are like. I telephoned them about my name as everything has my right name which has an apostrophe and this is why I needed this new licence as DVLA have never put an apostrophe, my husband’s new photo licence does not have one. I asked the woman about it and she I do not know and that was it, I felt I had interrupted her sleep or something. My licence has for the first time got an apostrophe.

Is this not illegal???

Wow, that was quick! Applied for my new licence (I'm 70) online on Friday, posted my old licence off on Saturday, got my new one on Wednesday !

Absolutely disgusting contact, remove driving license entitlement and even when sent evidence from their nominated optical assessment centres proving no problem with vision, refuse to reinstate those entitlements and now demand a full medical (why???) and yet another optical assessment! No reasonable reason for either assessment to have my license entitlement reinstated other than they say no.
Independant medical board? I think not!
They could be compared to the shower guards. You either take the shower or get shot.

Very poor performance, need to be ashamed of the delays you are causing people waiting for licences coming back to enable them to get trained.

I sent my GHV & PCV licence for renewal in September last year and have not had it back. There is no email address or contact number, for this incompetent government body. When am I going to get my licence back, hopefully before I retire. Another government body not fit for purpose. Give this job to the post office.

I had my licence revoked in 2019 due to a medical condition,at the time I accepted that it would be reviewed in 12 months at the time no explanation was give other than I don’t meet the standard and refer to a document given a number of conditions. This is left to be interpreted in different ways. After 12 months I reapplied for my licence again only to have it rejected again with the same reason. I got a solicitor involved who appealed and sent letters of support from my oncologist this has been dragged out by the DVLA for a further 12 months again with no clear explanation. I again have had no symptoms at all , this is hard to accept. Now the DVLA are saying my oncologist has misread the standard. It has now been two and half years since I drove .l like other reviews the DVLA have no thoughts of the impact there lack of action takes on peoples life’s. Like most government departments they leave everything to be interpreted in different ways

My licence finally came last Friday,I've only been trying to get in touch with them since April, and only had 2 replies,the company is not worth the money we pay for our licences should be wound up,just let the post offices renew licences,it would save hell of a lot of people getting stressed because,they havn't got a driving licence,because the dvla cannot be contacted,we just get cut off,very ignorant to peoples needs.

We have the same problem - still waiting for a licence after 3 months where we applied on-line- there is no complaints procedure in place - they do not answer phones, emails and on the top their CEO Julie Lennard lies to Yahoo Finance that they process on-line applications in 5 days. An utterly disgusting service. Write to the papers, BBC and your MP (do not ever pay a fine if you had applied on-line and still waiting after a year.

My son sent off for his provisional license in May and he still hasn’t received it. Can’t speak to anyone as no one answers the phone or webchat. Emails are an automated response.
Absolutely ridiculous!

My daughter is still waiting for her license to be sent back since May! All this just to change her surname after a very ugly divorce.
I would love to write an essay on the things I’m cross about the DVLA, but won’t waste my time. Please get a grip and make a difference in peoples lives by doing your job with pride and speed.

Dvla, what a joke. After a speeding ban that ended on the 22nd of Aug. I called at the start of July to get a form that the dvla should have sent. I was told I need a new photo. Everything done and sent. After a few phone calls to ask what's happening I was told I need a medical form, when I told them it's was just a speeding ban. 4 weeks ago I was told my hgv medical had expired. I asked why I was not told about this when I had been calling nearly every week sometimes twice a week. Now in Oct still nothing even thou my medical form has been there for 3 weeks. Only 3 people have been helpful, the others can't be bothered. Over 50,000,00 applications, hgv licences, medical forms sitting there and they go on strike. Without a care. This is why the UK is short on hgv drivers. You check your details and it says no driving privileges. Company insurance will not allow you to drive. Even if your under section 88.
The staff at the dvla should get a grip and get on with the job at hand and get the people back on the road. Other wise Christmas will be cancelled this year.

Been waiting months for my son's provisional driving license to arrive, application went in as soon as we were able to with age restrictions that are in place.
Money paid and then received an email saying further information was required as his passport issued 2 days before was not evidence enough!!
Have waited and waited until it seemed there must be an issue so tried to contact the DVLA.
WHAT A JOKE!. I must have tried to call over 1000 times, (no joke here) at all possible times and have never got past the automated answering device which just cuts you off
Have tried the webchat which also never has anyone available ever. I don't think there is a single person working there, it is utterly frustrating and as with most government departments they will take your money no problems there, but forget getting what you have paid for.
My son still can't get himself to work and college as he can't get the driving license even though we did everything at the earliest possible time.
Maybe now the covid, furlough, all our call centre employees have to stay home pathetic excuses have been diminished they might open a few letters and get some licences sent out.
Maybe he might possibly get one before his next birthday but then again maybe not. It's not like you can ask anyone is it!
Funny how if you want to buy premium bonds you call is answered almost immediately 24 hours a day.

Awful, awful, awful and sadly no alternative, if there was no one in their right mind would use this dreadful excuse of a service. If I could I would give negative stars it really is horrendous.

I send my license off end of July to get renewed as it runs out 5 days before my driving test in October, I have emailed and called but the robots can't help. They just advise there are big delays due to covid. I am going to miss my driving test because no-one will help me, I cant even get the dvla to accept my paper license so I can take my test so myblifevis on hold until March next year when I can re book my new test date. How is this acceptable, covid is just an excuse for everyone now to offer crap or no customer service.

Been waiting for over a month for a simple reply. Can't blame Covid anymore. What is the fee for licensing used for? As obviously it's not used for competent staff. And from what I can see not even the courage to reply. Total embarrassment what went wrong. Time to write to my M.P. Can see now why more and more unlicensed drivers are on the roads

One star because you can not give a zero. I tried phoning and was told to e-mail by a robot, when you e-mail they say they can not give any details because of security and that I need to phone them, etc, etc, etc,
Is it possible to report them to the police for the theft of licence and or documents? Does anyone know who the minister is in charge please?

I sent my partner's driving licence off for renewal which took a long time to be returned to us.
Unfortunately the address was not quite right.
I was advised to return the licence so as it can be amended.
I discovered, many weeks later that the amendment Department had been completely closed due to the Covid pandemic and that they were "a little behind" with such issues.
We are still, many months on, waiting for the licence.

Im tearing my hair out. Trying to renew my licence which runs out 25th and I tried everything. The online renewal form is crap I get to the 2 digit number on my licence then it tells me licence not recognised . I've tried phoning but told due to high demand lines are busy. I've tried phoning every 10 mins to no avail. So I go to online chat but its BOT rubbish Try emailing you can't even do that . So what if I got pulled over and my licence has gone past its renewal date coppers won't believe me and its illival to drive without a renewal licence what am I suppose to do. I e read alot of people in the same boat . Absolutely useless giv. Same with tax man . Who do you contact.

I am trying to renew my driving license on line, but every couple of minutes it throws me out because it says my session has been inactive for 20 minutes. None of the ways to conntact them work.
