We'd been struggling getting an approval for the work visa because of some confusion about what documents were required to transfer from the spouse visa. Since I'd already been living in China the worker in the visa office said I'd need the domestic background check, but apparently they were new and that turned out to be wrong. Frustrated, I reached out to eChinaCareers to get their opinion.
