Hired a car for 2 weeks in September

Hired a car for 2 weeks in September, what a great service . We were met at the airport with the car and they had upgraded us to an automatic for no extra charge which was an added bonus . Car was spotless and had low mileage . We were met at the airport on departing, car checked over and our deposit was returned that day . Can’t recommend this company enough I can honestly say I will definitely use them again next year and highly recommend them

Rented car for 14 days

Rented car for 14 days , it was in perfect condition and spotlessly clean. They emailed to confirm booking before we came and terms of rental. They were late for meeting flight but not a huge issue after filling out less than 5 minutes of paperwork and paying we were out of airport it was fast and effecient. Given clear instruction for drop off but were met at drop point and car checked and cleared and deposit returned with no issues. I would have no hesitation using again as they gave competative rates with others available and accept debit card so great service.

Staff helpful and friendly

We rented a buggy from these guys in faliraki, unfortunately we could only have the buggy till 8pm, however we realised this suited our plans perfectly, we hired it from 12-8 and cost 80 euros! Staff were very helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend and when we go back will hire again! We wanted to feel safer than a quad bike and the buggy gave us the extra safety.

Not recommended

Have used this company many times before without issue. On collecting the car at the airport I was informed that there was a 500€ excess on the insurance. I could reduce this by doubling the advertised rental cost. I was informed that I was not covered for any damage caused whilst on a car park. The rental man then went on to say that we would be charged 50€ for a little scratch. I then spent the next hour checking and photographing the car and listing the damage which was not on the rental agreement. Not a pleasant start to a holiday. Will use another company in future

So disapointed

So disapointed. The company must have changed ownership. I could always trust Elephant as the price you saw on the web site was the price you paid and the car would be full of petrol and you brought it back full..Very fair. It was also fully insured, no waiver damage etc or excess as it was all in the online price.
Now when you arrive the web price is not all inclusive, you have to take out extra insurance which added another Circa 100 euros more to the cost and they charged you for half tank of petrol which is a totally unfair method. No one is going to risk running out of petrol on the return to the airport so it is likely like us that they will have at least a quarter tank left so you are actually paying for petrol you dont use and that part of which they have not paid for. the previous fair fuel policy was better. We have been a customer of Elephant for about 12 years but we will now look elsewhere now as we feel a little conned!. This use to be typical of overseas companies grabbing evey penny from the hard working holiday maker and such practises really annoy me.

Horrible - stay away

A very rood and unfriendly guy met us at the airport. he told us that they are a giving us a bigger car than the one we booked - BUT that they are going to replace this bigger car 2 days later. He set the time and place that are comfortable for the them (elephantrentacar company) to make the replacement and said we HAVE to be there. he wouldn't agree to change the time or place. when we said this was totally not ok, he just closed his papers and said that the deal is of and we should find another rental company. we had very small kids with us - but he really could not care less.

Never forget Elephant

As a returning customer to Elephant car hire I have nothing but praise for this company , I was met at the airport on time and surprisingly met by a fellow countryman, hand over went smoothly, sat nav provided, and destination entered , the vehicle was clean and presentable (when hiring cars you must remember that these vehicle are driven by all and sundry) and unless they are brand new you have to expect a “used” vehicle and whilst most people will treat the vehicle as their own and take care of it , there is a large number that abuse it as it’s not theirs and seem not to care how it’s used and driven. My vehicle was a Toyota Fielder auto, unfortunately the air con failed in the Troodos mountains , when reported to there excellent and helpful employee, she very quickly made arrangements to provide a replacement vehicle, which we were presented with by agreement at Paphos bus station, again by a very helpful representative, even better the replacement provided although a manual gearbox which wasn’t a problem, was an upgrade over the Toyota.
Having spent my entire working life in the motor trade, from apprentice motor mechanic through to general manager I know how difficult it is to provide customer service and satisfaction and always meet their expectations (you can’t please all of the people all of the time)
As far as the negative reviews are concerned, please consider the problems that the hire company is presented with and give them a chance to address any issues, and I can assure you that Elephant Car Hire will.

Really excellent experience

Really excellent experience and first time hiring a car so we were apprehensive. Car was dropped to our location on time, we were advised to take photos of the car which we did before moving it. This is really important. Car was a Kia Rio, lovely little car to be honest. Initially booked for 4 days then extended via email for another 4 days, easy enough. They even said to leave cash in the car on collection, really chilled about the whole process. Then we decided to extend to 17 days, which was a quick visit from the helpful representative and we were sorted. Collected from our villa on time too. Would definitely recommend.

An unprofessional outfit

The representative who met us was quite hard to understand and was unclear in his instructions. He spoke quickly and seemed impatient to be rid of us.

The car was several years old and quite worn. The surface had worn off the steering wheel and the driver's seatbelt didn't retract properly. There was damage to several places on the exterior of the car and cigarette burns on the inside. None of the damage was marked on the sheet, as Elephant's policies state it should be. When I started taking photos of the damage, the representative laughed, saying it was unnecessary. I wish I hadn't listened to him.

We were charged 27 euros for under half a tank of fuel that was already in the car. From driving around the island, I now know that it should not have cost more than 20 euros. Events like this are why I prefer a full-to-full policy, but Elephant doesn't offer that. You don't get paid back for any fuel still in the car on return, so you either have to swallow that expense or risk running out of fuel on the way back to the airport.

One of the reasons I chose Elephant was for its comprehensive insurance and no-fuss attitude to minor damage. The representative even said that we needn't worry about scratches obtained while parking or caused by other cars while parked.

Unfortunately, that isn't true. We were charged 150 euros for light damage to a bumper. Of course, none of the damage was marked on the sheet, as per Elephant's policies, so how could they know when it happened?

I didn't receive a receipt to show how much the damage cost to repair, so how do I know it was repaired? I wasn't formally notified that I would be charged, and only found out when I checked my credit card. I don't even have an invoice or damage report that I can submit to my excess insurance company in order to recoup the loss.

In future, I'll go with one of the big car hire companies that have clear T&Cs, decent communication and industry-standard procedures. Even if it costs a little more, it will be worth it for the peace of mind.

I think Elephant is run by honest and well-meaning people. However, it is simply not professional enough in its dealings.

Best car rental company in Paphos Cyprus

In the last three holiday trips to Cyprus I have rented a car from Elephantrent a car and found them excellent to deal with having a high standard of customer service and being met at the Airport even when our plane was late coming in at midnight removed any stresses from our holiday. Cars are always clean and if any problems are encountered a swift replacement is sourced. I cannot recommend highly enough and would rent with no one else, when you have found the best why try the rest.

Hired a car from this company

Hired a car from this company. Was told someone would be meeting us in the arrivals hall at paphos airport but when we got there nobody was there. We found them 10 minutes later in the car park.
The car was reliable and I found this company to be honest with there prices and insurance. I would defiantly use elephant car rentals again.

Very clear costs and excellent service

I used this company for the first time last month. They were slightly more expensive than some of the big hire companies but I noticed that their deposit was less. I was pleased that everything was very smooth from start to finish and the condition of the Kia Sportage automatic was like brand new even though it was 2 years old. We were met at the airport and shown to a desk outside where we signed the papers and paid for the hire and half a tank of fuel. Deposit of 200 Euros was also taken. Then we taken to the car which was in excellent condition and shown all the controls. The rep also spent time going round the car with us checking for scratches etc. He then explained the return procedure and then we were off! Had no problems during the week and after returning the car, our deposit was returned the following day. Much slicker than some of the other companies I have used. Will definitely use again.

Faultless

We used elephant last summer and had no problems we were met at the gate by a friendly professional agent who showed us to our car which was less than a year old, clean and the same as what we ordered filled in the paperwork left a deposit which was done as a hold of funds on a debit card. Had 2 weeks of problem free driving returned car to the airport. And deposit returned before we arrived home. Good fuel policy you return it as you receive it in our case half a tank of petrol no mileage limit. I would recommend them to anyone.

This is my experience of renting a car in June 2015 – you decide!

Having used this company before, I booked a Mazda 2 (knowing that I probably would not get the car of my choice!) in March 2015 for our holiday in June and received the usual email confirmation stating “Please note that all payments will be made locally on arrival in Euro currency cash or card. (Credit card number needed for security reasons)”
On arrival at Paphos airport at 22.00 I was surprised when I was required to pay 400 eur deposit by credit card in addition to the cost of the hire car and half tank of petrol. I have never had to pay them a deposit before and I am sure that it was not mentioned in their terms and conditions when I booked.
I was asked to sign an agreement form and given the keys to an Opel Meriva A (which was at least 5 years old and which, annoyingly, did not have a power outlet to plug in my sat nav, the flap which, according to the handbook, it was supposed to be under was superglued up). Fortunately there was enough battery power to last the 40 minute journey to the villa.
I had the misfortune to bump into a pole in a supermarket car park causing minor damage to the car. I did not have my mobile phone with me at the time but I phoned the hire company as soon as I got back to the villa. They initially said that they would call out to see the car but then phoned back to say they were too busy so I agreed to take the car to their premises when next in Kato Paphos.
They said that I was responsible for up to 400 eur because I hadn’t hit another vehicle. When I said that this was not on the hire agreement they insisted that this was the situation.
I took the car to their premises in Kato Paphos the next day and was told the repair would cost about 150 eur which they would deduct from the 400 eur deposit. Again I tried to dispute this arguing that the terms on the back of the pink form simply suggested that I needed to complete an insurance report form but they would not listen.
On return from holiday, I found that they had deducted 150 eur from the deposit so I posted some critical reviews on line commenting on this. As a result, I was bombarded with phone calls from them and they agreed that they would return the 150 eur. I pointed out the various claims they made on their website including “we include in the price given a range of car hire insurances, which are designed to meet our Cyprus car hire customer's needs with no hidden extras.” They insisted that motor insurance in Cyprus is different from the UK (and possibly the rest of the world!) in that damage to the vehicle is only covered if you hit another vehicle, phone the police from the scene of the accident, wait until the police arrive and obtain a written police report. It would appear that, in other circumstances, there is actually no cover for damage to the vehicle but they may decide that you liability is no more than the 400 eur deposit – I notice that they did reduce this to 250 eur and it now appears to be 200 eur
I would strongly recommend that, before booking, you read through the terms and conditions on their website and make sure you are totally confident that you fully understand the circumstances in which you may be liable for some or all damage to the hire car and, more importantly, those where you have no insurance cover whatsoever eg:
If a non 4x4 vehicle is driven on a non-paved road or sandy beach (off road) – so that rules out the likes of Lady’s Mile Beach and most beach car parks.
If failed to take in mind traffic regulations (sic) – overlook a “give way” or “stop” sign and you apparently have no cover whatsoever.
I worked for a major insurance company for 30 years and was involved in setting cover levels and writing appropriate policy wordings including motor insurance for the 20 years before I retired and I find their terms extremely difficult to fully understand (and more than a little worrying!). In fact the “traffic regulations” exclusion reminds me of Vehicle and General Insurance which collapsed spectacularly in the early 1970’s and which incorporated that sort of wording in their policies to minimize claims costs!
And, when you pick up the car, make sure that the terms on the back of the pink form match those on the website.
