Great product. Just a couple annoyances.

After a little experimentation, I got the layout how I like it.
I'm a big fan of the consolidated inbox. I have 2 personal email accounts and I like seeing all my email in one place. I do have a couple gripes, though (hence the 3 stars).
When I fire up the email client, it opens the inbox to my last read email. I expect to have it go to the top of the list. Moderately annoying.
I tend to scroll emails using the mouse wheel. When I slide my mouse over to a newly selected email and turn the wheel, nothing happens. After I click around in the email (usually opening up some link accidentally), it finally kicks in. This one is very annoying.
I'm using the free version because I haven't found any client I like better yet and I refuse to pay a subscription fee. I'll happily pay a reasonable fee for software once, but will not, with a very few exceptions, pay an ongoing fee. Don't get me wrong, you certainly should get paid for your development time (I'm a developer myself). I just won't use an email client that requires a subscription.

I would actually give eM Client a 4.5…

I would actually give eM Client a 4.5 rating. The .5 less than 5 was because the conversion of my old emails from Postbox was challenging. But once I was up and running I can say I'm very pleased with eM Client. It does what I need and how I want. I have never liked using Outlook in all it's iterations over the years with the newer versions even more difficult to use. Outlook comes as part of my O365 package but I still paid to use eM Client instead.

Love it

Love it. It does everything that Outlook did well, and none of what Outlook sucked at. One thing that could be improved is to update the highlighted message header in the main window as you move from message to message in the message reading window.

This email app works well for me.

I've been using this mail app for a couple of months, and it is working better than many of the mail clients I have tried in the past year. The interface took a little getting used to, but things are now running smoothly.
This might be a good fit for those of you out there who are not happy with their current email app.

The good, the not so bad, and the problematic

After some time to get used to the app, I found it easy to operate. A bit complicated was the setup for synchronizing with the Yahoo email account.
I use a VPN (Surfshark), which I need to turn off to be able to send emails. How much I tried, I was not able to figure out, how to send mails with the Shark on

Regarding VPN: network and security apps always have higher-level permissions than any other app on your PC, including eM Client. We unfortunately cannot bypass being blocked by security or network apps unless they allow us to, which might cause issues. If you want to use VPN with the eM Client app, you could technically use a split tunneling feature, if your VPN provider supports it - this should allow you to use the app along with a VPN with no issues. It seems that Surfshark does offer a split-tunneling feature - you can contact the Surfshark support, so they can help you with the specific settings in the Surfshark app.

emails from same sender not always in primary or promotion. One time in primary and next email from same sender in promotion???

Emails can get miscategorized by the algorithm that assigns the categories. For Gmail accounts, you can only change the category of a message in the eM Client app with a paid license. If you're a Free license user, go to the Gmail webmail and change the category there (select the message>Move to tab>select the target category tab) - this will then sync with the eM Client app as well.

For all non-Gmail accounts, you can change the category by dragging the message to the target tab. To apply the change to all past messages from that email address, press and hold Shift while dragging. If you want to update only the selected message and avoid creating a new rule, hold Alt (Windows) or Control (macOS) while dragging.

EM Client has converted to trash

EM Client has converted to trash. Lifetime user here. They decided to shut down service and take away my support after being an early adopter, beta tester, etc for years. If you run a business that depends on email, this paid program will destroy you. If you want a company who is loyal to their supporters, this is not them.

Update: I know there is a free version that I am using, but limit it to just two accounts and other limitations and if I need assistance becouse I am on the free version it says it will take a long time to get help. Even the free user are costumer, and that I think is wrong, and you are not the only one company to do so.

Our app does have a Free license option for home use, which you are currently using. So if you don't want to pay, you don't have to. Those who need a dependable email app for work or just want to get more features, can choose to get our paid plans.

The development and upkeep of the program to work with all emails providers and stay secure and protect your data is not free, especially in 2026, but if you'd prefer to use an app that does not have any paid plans there are other options out there.

It works for most of what I need.

It works for most of what I need.
What I am missing is that it does not process the Dismiss process for event notifications.
I am setting it to wait for 1 day so the out of date process can clean up the events.

Slow downloading of emails

When downloading emails, is very slow and takes time to update.
Not good if a company send one an authorisation code that expires in 5 minutes
This happens all the time - not only on the date of experience as trapped in below
Otherwise, am quite happy

The download speed can be affected by your internet connection speed as well as third-party security apps (antivirus, firewall). In general, we suggest enabling the download for offline use (Menu>Accounts>IMAP/EWS tab>Sync Options). This feature will download your messages in advance so they will be readily available and it won't slow down your workflow. However, this might not affect how fast the confirmation codes are sent by their provider, which can also be a factor.

Everything is just working fine

Everything is just working fine. The only thing that bothers me is that I don't have quick sychronization between my devices.
Antoher thing that could be improved, but it's not that crucial, is that I would prefer the new message not to open in a new window.

The programme makes some weird…

The programme makes some weird decisions. A contact who I have regular communication with has for years been a normal email - then suddenly eMclient decides that his email address is a spam email. It cost me a lot of time.
The search function is a bit Schizophrenic - it will pick up an email address one day and then the same search a few days later it will not pick up the email address.

eM Client moves messages to junk based on the spam headers from your email server provider and your custom Blacklist, which you create via the "Move to Junk and Blacklist email/domain" options. Nothing else.
You can check the local Blacklist in Menu>Settings>Mail>Blacklist and Whitelist section and remove the email/domain if you added it accidentally. If the message was moved to spam by your mail provider, it sometimes helps to add the sender to your synchronized contacts.

Problems with the Search feature can often be due to the server-side search being enabled, since not all providers have the same search options as eM Client. Please try disabling it by unchecking the "Use server search if available" option in the Search bar drop-down menu. At the same time, we suggest enabling the download for offline use (Menu>Accounts>IMAP/EWS tab>Sync Options). This way your messages are downloaded fully in the background and the more detailed local search can give you better results.

Previous MS Outlook PC Desktop User-converted :-)

For many years I used MS Outlook PC desktop for my email, calendar, and contacts. When it decided not to play nice with the iCloud App for synchronizing my calendar and contact data, I looked for another product, preferably free. eM Client fulfilled that need. It Refreshes all screens quickly unlike Outlook.

I have been using the free version about 4 months and am quite happy. Because of my Outlook experience, it was intuitive to setup.

My only wish is for the contact form format. I realize its format is probably standard among programs today, but I like the Outlook format where all info for a contact is visible without needing to click different tabs, i.e., Overview, Details, Addresses. It's a small thing and isn't a deal breaker and I wish I had a choice.

I recommend this free product and don't intend to return to MS Outlook.
