DO NOT use this company
DO NOT use this company, even if it’s the only one available. I rented a car with them for $115 for one day. I was charged an additional $100 upon return of the vehicle because of a small scratch on the front bumper of the car. I accepted the charge and left an unsatisfactory review. Two weeks later I was charged an extra $198.33 with no explanation whatsoever. Not sure if my review was the reason but I disputed the charge with my bank who later denied my dispute because Europcar provided information to prove that I made the purchase. When I looked at the documentation, they provided my bank with a completely different contract that had someone else’s information. I submitted my personal contract to show my bank that I was being incorrectly charged. Unfortunately my bank accepted their documentation and refused to give me my money back.
So now I am down almost $200 for a purchase I did not even make. Please do not use them, what they are doing is fraud.
Best wishes on your travels guys, stay safe.
Terrible
Terrible, terrible, never again!!!!! Athens airport worst experience ever.
Rip off
I received a speeding ticket in France, I paid the ticket 46 euro but then saw a charge of 55 euro from europcar. They charge you for getting a ticket in their car!!!! I objected but its buried in the fine print. DO NOT RENT from them.

The process for returning the car and assessing damage is flawed. They then refuse to speak to you by telephone and repeat false statements on email at every turn to obfuscate the process. They refuse to discuss the contradictions in their photographs versus damage report and then take the money despite being in dispute. DO NOT USE
They deserve zero stars
I had to give them one star, but honestly they deserve zero. If I could rate them lower, I would.
Their customer service was extremely rude every time I called—I spoke to multiple representatives, and all of them were unhelpful and dismissive. My flight was delayed, and I let them know I would be picking up the car late. Despite that, they insisted on charging me an extra $100, which I felt was completely unfair since the delay was out of my control.
Instead of trying to help, they simply said it wasn’t their responsibility and gave me two options: pay the extra fee or cancel. No effort was made to accommodate the situation or offer any support.

Thorough inspection needed prior to taking over the car. They imposed a ridiculous amount for very minor damage (scratch on hood). Honestly I wouldn’t even labelled it a damage. The repair cost was Euro 1214 plus a handling charge of Euro 60. Totally absurd. Had full protection so didn’t quarrel with them.
Very disappointing and misleading…
Very disappointing and misleading experience with Europcar Faro Airport.
At the time of pickup, I clearly stated multiple times that I already had full insurance coverage and did not want any additional services. Despite this, “Roadside Assistance” was added to my contract without my informed consent.
The way the contract is presented is confusing and misleading. The structure and pricing are very similar to the original booking (in my case via Ryanair), making it look like everything listed is part of the standard package rather than optional extras. This creates the impression that you are simply confirming your booking, while in reality additional charges are being included.
Afterwards, I noticed that many other customers report the exact same issue at this location. This suggests a recurring practice rather than an isolated mistake.
Customer service simply refers to the signed document, ignoring the fact that the service was clearly refused and not transparently explained.
This is not acceptable and does not reflect fair or transparent business practices. I would strongly advise others to be extremely careful and double-check everything before signing.

We ordered the car and they told us to wait 15 minutes for the car to be washed we ended up waiting over 2 hours we ask them multiple times for a different car or any way it can be quicker but they just told us it would take 5 for minutes

Was completely lied to by clerk at Sydney Airport and false charges were placed on my credit card. These guys are nothing short of criminals. Do not use these folks
Euro car faro
Having hired a car at Farah airport in the Algarve we were told not to fill up the tank and return it full having already paid for a tank of petrol because the rate was cheaper on the contract then it was in the petrol station. So surprised to receive an invoice for €113 using 2/3 of a medium sized car tank fuel which would come to know more than €60. I was also charged for premium station? Don’t know what this is for and tolls chip in the car to pay tolls and the tolls have been cancelled. So this was also a bogus charge if I’ve returned the car full they would’ve not had access to be able to build me any of this additional money. So I am chasing for a refund as I think this is a scam.
Do not use
Do not use. They tricked me into paying for $3,000 insurance I did not need, and would not let me out of the rental when I realized what had happened. Plus the car they gave us was not the model promised, and we made so much noise we had to swap for a new one.
Extremely unprofessional
Extremely unprofessional. My credit card had a technical issue, and the staff refused to help or offer any alternative (like purchasing insurance). They simply STOLE my 1300 CNY pre-paid rental fee. Pure robbery. Avoid this place!
Shocking Customer Experience
I rented a car in New Zealand from Queenstown airport dropping back to Greymouth. I arrived 30 minutes earlier than my allotted time of 11.00am where I had specially booked 11.00am 15th March until 11.00 17th March drop off so I would pay only two days. I double checked with the Europcar agent that I would not be charged an extra day as I was quite happy to go and get breakfast at the airport and pick the car up later. She assured me this was fine. On drop off of the car at 11.00 on the 17th at Greymouth I was emailed my final receipt and I was charged $130 for an extra day despite the verbal confirmation and agreement from a Europcar representative that I would not. Having escalated this to the complaints department Joy Incar I still have no response to my latest email. SHOCKING CUSTOMER EXPERINCE. I will never use this company again and I will make sure to tell as many people I can of my experience.
Non-responsive customer service
Non-responsive customer service once rental has commenced.
Have been trying for weeks to obtain invoice from rental. No response at all via e-mail and when I can get someone to answer the phone they are not able to assist. Glad I did not need them during the rental as customer service is non-existent even for a simple task. Cannot imagine a complicated concern.
Europcar Deception
1. Quoted the GUARANTEED price to pay on pick-up was EUR 159.84 ($260.19). I filled in all the information requested on-line for a quick pick-up of the car which
for other agencies I have used simply means showing your driver's licence and credit card and I get handed the keys. It took over an hour to get the car from Europcar with much discussion about the insurance. I had already put all the information on line declining the extra insurance.
2. I brought a letter from the credit card's insurance company stating the name of the card (which was the card I booked the reservation on and which I had with
me), that it had full world-wide coverage-(the company wrote the letter knowing the request was for the rental to be used in Ireland and Northern Ireland), and the length of coverage-48 days (I only rented for 5 days). The added insurance was not required but the agent refused to give me the car unless I took out their
insurance.
3. On picking up the car I was told there would also be an added charge if I drove to Northern Ireland even though there was to be unlimited milage on the car
4. Final cost for the rental was Euro 423.59 + 34.05 (for drive to Northern Ireland )($736.34). Almost 3 TIMES the initial quoted price.
5. The company deceives customers. I spoke with my sister on my return from Ireland and she had the same experience with Europcar as did my brother. None of us will ever again use this company and I now advise any of my colleagues and acquaintances to avoid using Europcar.
Hidden costs
I booked directly with Europcsr to avoid any “hidden fees” a cheaper, third party website might have at pick up/drop off. When I picked up the car I was very confused by my bill as there were all sorts of numbers and all were different than the amount I was emailed at booking which was a ‘garunteed at pickup’. When I got my final bill after drop off, the numbers were different again and I was charged a ‘premium station surcharge’. When I emailed about this, I was told this is a fee they charge for all airport pickups to cover their expenses. I explained I had booked that location as my pickup and was garunteed a price, they kept repeating it was a fee they charge for all airport pickups. BEWARE!! I wish I had just paid a lot less for a third party booking and been expecting extra fees, rather than being majorly disappointed by Europcar. On top of this, I was also fooled into purchasing roadside assistance, even though I already have CAA.. it was very rushed and I was exhausted after traveling and very confused which I take responsibility for but wish I had been prepared for this sales tactic.
Europcar is a scam...
I was late to my reservation due to a delayed flight. My reservation was cancelled and I was told by the desk assistant that the reservation could not be reopened and that I should contact customer service.
Customer service did not answer the phone and the web site did not provide any options to address the problem. I tried to make a new reservation but the web page said the rental site was closed despite me being at the desk and talking with the desk representative.
Email customer service response 24 hours later was, "too bad, so sad. No refund for you"
Poor customer service
Poor customer service. I was Charged for a no show after I was asked to change the contract because they could not release the car as I had a copy of my license and not the actual license. New contract was issued under my wife. However still charged for a no-show. Extremely disappointed!
This company is the worst I ever dealt…
This company is the worst I ever dealt with they will find any excuse not to give u the car I lost my wallet at the airport and didn’t have my drivers license and they didn’t want to make an exception even though I had a picture of the id and a passport very rude and takes forever for the shuttle to pick u up. It’s a 15 min shuttle ride from the airport they refused to give me a refund or a refund for the insurance never used they are thieves and u will regret using them
Coerced into subscribing for an insurance
I had a very disappointing experience with Europcar in Quito (Ecuador).
At the time of vehicle pickup, I was told that I could not take the car unless I purchased an additional insurance (Personal Accident Insurance – PAI), charged at 29.16 USD per day. I was also told that cancelling my prepaid reservation was not possible.
As a result, I felt I had no choice but to accept this insurance in order to proceed. However, I later confirmed that this coverage is entirely optional and not legally required. I had already purchased Europcar’s Basic Protection during the booking process.
This means the insurance was presented as mandatory when it was not.
I contacted both the local agency and Europcar International, but despite clear explanations, no refund was offered and the core issue was never addressed.
This kind of practice is misleading and puts customers under pressure at the counter. I would strongly recommend carefully reviewing all charges and being prepared to refuse additional products.
