Worst rental care experience ever. I rented a car from Europcar location Paris CDG airport in Aug/Sept 2026. The car: Not clean, defective steering, fuel tank not full. The cost: More than adv... See more

Dysfunctional car and customer service
The car that I rented was dysfunctional. The engine of the car failed twice in less than 24 hours. Once I remained stuck for about 1 hour in a supermarket underground parking. The second time the car failed to start when I was rushing to return the car and get a train. As I could not risk turning off the car for doing gasoline, Europecar staff told me not to worry about the payment of the gasoline. I was, instead, charged for the price of gasoline.
In short, the service that I had was deeply disappointing (dysfunctional car) and Europecar team not only did not solve the problem but even failed to keep its word. I really do not recommend Europecar to anyone: the typical case of a huge multinationational company not caring about customer's interests.
We have been here for 50 mins
We have been here for 50 mins. Three people on the tills - service is appalling….i would not book them again…..
STAY AWAY FROM EUROPCAR PODGORICA.
STAY AWAY FROM EUROPCAR PODGORICA.
At return, they suddenly inspected underneath the car and blamed us for underside damage. How many customers before us have already been forced to pay for this exact same "damage"?
They left us zero choice on the spot: pay €500 immediately or leave without solving it. They refused to deduct it from the deposit, claiming "customer service would handle it."
What a joke. I sent over 10 emails. Customer service ignored every single message about the unfair charge. Yet, the moment I asked a basic question about the deposit, they replied instantly.
They don't just scam you at the desk; they completely ghost you afterward, leaving you 0.0 chance to dispute anything. Absolute worst customer service.
Scammer practices.
Inflated recharge costs - 5 times what staff indicated
The staff at Edinburgh Airport have always been friendly and helpful, but on my last hire I was given incorrect information regarding the recharging cost of the electric vehicle. I verified the recharging cost with both the staff at pick-up and at return - but when the invoice was emailed, the charge was (a) for a recharge in kWh greater than the car could have required to get back to 80%, and (b) at more than FIVE times the previously stated cost per kWh.
Attempts to get this resolved by emailing customer services were ignored, and phone calls resulted in a promise to get a manager at the Edinburgh Airport branch to call me back, which never happened.
Nice folk, but if I can't trust what they are telling me on the cost, then how can I possibly hire from them again?
This company is a very big SCAM!!
This company is a very big SCAM!!! Stay away at all costs!!! I had an extremely unpleasant experience with Europe Car in Mallorca airport. They tried to give me a more expensive car than the one I reserved. The front desk worker was very insistent, also insisting that I make an insurance with them. Since I refused, they made sure they would rip me off in another way. They discovered a minuscule dent in the inside of the door (even though their policy tolerates imperfecties up to 2cm in size, and this was well under) and they kept my entire deposit. I had the imperfection recorded on a video, that I made when I picked up the car, which I did not share with them initially as it was not easy to spot. The person responsible for inspecting the car when I returned it went straight to the dent ("by chance") and pointed it out. I showed her it was in the video, but she said it could be tricked and the date of the file falsified, so she deemed it to be inconclusive evidence. They don't even bother to look at the evidence you provide. I looked closely at other people's cars (same model) and they had a similar dent in the same place "by chance". This lead me to think that the company "prepares" cars with these hard to notice damages in order to rip people off and keep their deposits. The inspector said I need to make a complaint at the front desk. By the time the front desk agent came to inspect the car with me, the car was "by chance" not in the parking lot anymore, and not to be found as it was already sent for washing. This is a massive scam. They don't even bother to take your complain into account (Especially since they know you are short on time in the airport, and risk losing your flight if you need to stay for longer and defend your case). As I would not want similar things happen to other people, I want to warn everyone of how dangerously sneaky, scamish and corrupt this company is.

Online booking flop
After completing the long on-line booking process, this worker calls me to say, "We don't any vans this weekend". This is ineptitude of the highest order.
File this review under "hidden…
File this review under "hidden charges". I've used Europcar before and never had an issue. When I reserved a car online there was no mention of any additional fees, let alone "roadside service". In the email confirmation? Not mentioned there either. When I picked up the car it was there, in the small print that no one reads... and they refuse to refund me the 155 euros. I can't remember the last time I left a bad review for a business, it's not my style, but this really annoyed me.
SCAM
SCAM: Europcar Rome lied to me, telling me that getting petrol around Rome was expensive and they could fill it up at return on a flat rate of euros 70.-, and I would get reimbursed for the petrol not used.
When I asked the check-in man if the tank would be returned nearly full, would they re-imburse the difference, he assured me that Europcar would only charge the petrol I used and made me sign a document.
SCAM SCAM SCAM - be careful!
Europcar WILL keep your money no matter how full the tank is on return.
AVOID or be extremely cautions on what they tell you. They are trained to deceit the client and make you sign a paper very quickly. Highly skilled charlatans.
I will never use this company again
I will never use this company again. A two inch scratches on the boot which I saw was already there when I collected the car. I was accused of, they said that it may not have been me but did happen in the 24 hours that I had it. £525 to get them off of my back. I believe because I didn't take out the extra insurance they had the chance to penalise me........my advice is to not take out the extra insurance, just dont use them........i am so dissappointed with how they handled my case. I will never ever go near this company again.
Dishonest con artists.
Won't use again. Ever. Dishonest. I booked a car and they never offered me the category I booked. After a long flight, the charming sales agent offering me 3 different, ridiculously expensive other categories. I understood the implication to be that my booked category was not available and I eventually agreed to the 4th that he offered frankly out of exhaustion and a will to get going. The upgrade charge came in at over double the charge for the initial category. Seriously, who books an economy car and then is ok paying over double for a swanky car.
Be very careful with additional charges at Europcar Faro Airport
To me, this experience felt like a rip-off of tourists. My strong recommendation: Read every single line of the rental agreement before signing anything on the tablet – regardless of what the employee tells you verbally.
I had already booked and paid for my rental car online. When I arrived, the vehicle I had originally booked was not available. I was therefore shown other available vehicles and chose one of them.
At the counter, I was told that a security deposit would be reserved on my credit card. The employee then quickly scrolled through the document on the tablet to the signature section and asked me to sign.
What was not transparently explained to me, according to my recollection: By signing, I was being charged an additional €247.54 for an upgrade and €254.47 for Premium Protection.
After the rental, another €502 was charged to my card, on top of the amount I had already paid online.
I complained several times to Europcar Germany and Europcar Portugal. Their response was essentially always the same: I had signed the rental agreement and therefore accepted the additional products.
Yes, I signed the agreement. But that is exactly the problem for me: If I am told that the process concerns the security deposit, the document is quickly scrolled down to the signature field, and I later discover more than €500 in additional products that I would never knowingly have purchased at that price, I consider this extremely misleading and unacceptable.
I also specifically asked Europcar to provide evidence showing when and how the upgrade and Premium Protection, including their respective prices, were clearly explained to me before I signed. I did not receive any convincing clarification beyond repeated references to my signature.
My advice to anyone renting a car at Faro Airport:
Do not rely on verbal explanations at the counter. Ask to see the final total price before signing, check every single additional item in the agreement, and ideally take a photo of the screen before you sign.
After this experience, I will not rent from Europcar again.
Scammers
The misfortune of using this company to rent a car in Spain. I wish I’d read the reviews first. I’ve booked the car via booking . Com I paid extra money to have premium insurance. However, when we got to Malaga airport, we were told that this insurance is not valid and would not be accepted by Europecar. And that we would have to have their own insurance at a cost of £470 before they would let us take the car. It was 10 pm at Malaga Airport with my family. They absolutely had us over a barrel and they knew it. What they done was nothing short of scandalous. After reading all of the reviews this is a typical example of what they do. And when you try to contact them, they ignore you. I would strongly advise that you do not use this company. I personally feel that they are nothing but legalised scammers.
Bait & switch
Bait & switch. My fault for not reading reviews! Could have saved myself wasting money! Worst car rental experience ever! Wish I could meet the ceo & ask him/her how do you allow for such mediocrity!!!
Horrible
Horrible! That most transparently dishonest company. Outright lied to our faces about the condition of the car we rented, then hid behind a language barrier that didn’t exist when we rented the car. Stay away from them or have your trip ruined!
1 Forced insurance charges and undisclosed fees at Dublin Airport
1. Impossible CDW/TP letter requirement
I had valid American Express CDW and Theft Protection coverage with full policy documentation, and I used that AmEx card for the rental. Europcar refused it and demanded a formal letter from AmEx confirming coverage. AmEx doesn't issue such letters — and Europcar knows this. I was forced to buy their CDW and TP at the counter.
2. Hidden breakdown charge
A breakdown insurance fee was added at the counter with no prior disclosure — not in my booking, not in my voucher. If their car breaks down, that's their responsibility, not mine to pay extra for.
3. Charged twice for CDW
I'd already pre-purchased Collision Damage Protection through Booking.com. Since Europcar refused my AmEx coverage, I had to buy their CDW too — paying for the same thing twice.
4.
I took the car to NI. In the booking terms it said the charge would be EUR34.05. They helped themselves to EUR45 although they did send me a nice email to advise me of this charge.
Come prepared, or better yet, consider a rental company that accepts third-party coverage in good faith.
EUROPCAR Valence airport
EUROPCAR Valence airport. Great experience with the car rental! The staff were friendly and helpful, and both pick-up and return were very quick and easy. The location at the airport was very convenient.
The car was almost new, in excellent condition and very well equipped. It even had adaptive cruise control, which is quite rare for a rental car and made the journey much more comfortable.
Very happy with the service and would definitely rent from them again!
Cancelled on us last minute after all…
Cancelled on us last minute after all other van hire had closed for the weekend . We are now unable to move tomorrow and had the check to charge a cancellation fee which I will be disputing
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I am (was) a repeat renter of Eurocar…
I am was a repeat renter of Eurocar over the past 10 years . No more
I rented a car through Auto Europe for a 15 day rental (I usually rent for 21 days) for a CDG Eurocar in February 2026.
The Auto Europe voucher for the car was $810.
I upgraded, which I have done before. That usually only costed a few hundred more. This time I was charged over $1,440 not including the gas charge at the end on top of the original Auto Europe charge.
So my initial $810 charge turned into a $2300 rental for two weeks.
This was three times the amount I ever paid for a three week rental.
Through multiple card disputes, no human reply to multiple emails it took until today (late August) to clarify the actual charges.
P.S. I was also a "preferred member")
I booked a Jeep
I booked a Jeep. They gave me a Peugeot a lower category.
Then Europcar charged me an “upgrade” fee.
Yes, you read that correctly: they downgraded my car and charged me EXTRA for it.
No consent. No itemised invoice. The money was simply taken from my card after I returned the vehicle.
I disputed it. Europcar customer service sent one generic copy-paste response then completely disappeared.
So now I’ve had to send a FORMAL LEGAL NOTICE just to recover money I believe they had no basis to charge.
Imagine needing a lawyer and a legal deadline just to get a company to explain why they took money from your card.
At this point, this isn’t just “bad customer service.” It’s a warning to anyone considering renting from Europcar Catania.
Europcar Catania is a scam, please don t book there
