Moved from New York to London with Excess International.
Before the move:
Inventory was done via a video conference and was followed by a cost estimate. Keep in mind that the client is responsible for buying insurance which is in addition to the cost estimate and about 3% of the declared value.

Transfer of Residence (ToR) documentation was easy

Moving-out day: Excess used a sub-contractor who was slightly late and advised to crate more items (additional costs!)

Transfer. Although we actually removed some items from what we showed during the video inventory, we were told we needed to pay more as the shipment was bigger than expected (?) No way to prove it.

Transition
It took over 2 months to get the shipment to the UK. Absolutely no issues with customs.

Move-in day.
Be aware that unless you have access to free parking, you will have to organize and pay for the movers’ truck parking time and space which can actually be quite expensive.

The London movers were professional, courteous and efficient.
The issues came up when we opened boxes and noticed a few items were broken, mainly because they had been badly packed in NY. This could have been avoided.
This being said, the London movers did a great job unpacking or organizing the various items.

Finally, we received very little help getting the insurance claim prepared from Excess. This was disappointing. Still waiting to hear from the insurance company on the various broken items.

Excess seems to act more as an agent/consolidatorthan a true moving company.
I gave them 4* (although thought about giving 3!) mainly because of the great service received Fromm the London-based movers. The rest is average and ended substantially more expensive than expected.

The shipment arrived exactly one month after collection so a bit later than the time expected, but considering that it was around christmas and the end of year's holidays it is understandable, plus it arrived just in time for us to move to the new home saving us to bring it into storage.

The person liaised with me has been exceedingly helpful throughout the process, so thank you Deborah for all your help.

I would have given 5 stars if there wasn't a lack of communication between the head office of the partners in the collection country and their van driver who could not take into consideration what was exactly required for the collection itself and came with a smaller van than needed. As a result the shipment could not have been wrapped at collection point but successively in their warehouse or else it could not have fitted in the van.

Nevertheless everything arrived in excellent condition so I am very happy. Thank you again, this is the second time our family has used your services and we can definitely recommend Excess International Movers.

We shipped a small amount of personal effects from Birmingham UK to Boston MA( ref 1923626). Nick and Shirley kept me informed at all stages of the process in the UK and I was kept informed at the other end as well. Shipment arrived in very good order and bang on the time that the US agent said it would. No hiccups encountered at all. Delivery crew in Boston were from Schumachers and were polite, on time and quick. Would definitely use again both for the service levels and the price value.

So what are you looking for when moving your goods (aka your life) to another country?

In many ways, EIM has provided a great level of comfort and convenience throughout the process. For example, the way the onboard you of walk through your goods is frictionless. Using your phone, you can simply walk room by room, whilst an agent, in our case Charlie, notes down all they need to know to prepare an initial estimate of the volume, price and timelines. Yes, all that in the first session. You have to download an App — just so you know, but it's worth the time you save in every aspect.

They make sure that you know what's next at any point in time. Moving dates, shipping dates and they guide you through insurance, customs as well as basic packaging questions like a great steward.

Communications will delight you when you are a fan of quick responses — even if you have, like in our case, a lot of detailed insurance questions. They got back to us with answers from an expert broker so that we knew what to pack, document or research.

The day! When the movers come, be considerate. They are amazing in what they do, come with a positive attitude and truly practical when it packing, unpacking your goods, no matter how prepared you are. Obviously, I'd recommend the get the most out of a happy team, so we got some coffee, croissants and other treats to start the day as good as possible.

Moving can be tricky and drains your energy, especially when you want your goods to arrive in another country! In this case, you want more than a great price, but convenience, trust and flexibility.

I had 3 of their guys in today 13/6/19, Steve, Tom and Colin. They were absolutely brilliant. Worked so very hard. Were polite, appreciative and so hard working. I cannot say enough nice things about these guys. We chose Excess Intl Movers because out of all the companies we approached they were the only company to offer to come to our house and and give us a quote as we really had no idea what space we would need. This visit was carried out by another lovely guy called Charlie Robinson.
So as far as the U.K. end of our move goes it was simply the best. We hoe that when our belongings get to Cyprus we receive the same treatment.

I was recommended to use this company by a friend who has used it many times before. Everything explained fully and the quote was very competitive.

I used Excess International Movers (EIM) to move some computer equipment and televisions from London to Madrid. I did a lot of research into moving computers safely and found EIM to be outstanding. I recently used Excess International to ship several pieces of furniture from the UK to France and was extremely impressed with their service. Their team did a fabulous job collecting the items from my home, ensured the packaging was correct to prevent damage during the transit and the items were delivered on time and in good condition.

I will definitely use them again.

I found the service that I received from Excess International Movers a very satisfying and they helped me in every step of the way at a point that I was under a lot of stress. They answered all of my questions in a polite and courteous manner. They replied promptly to all my e mails. I had to delay my arrangements due to the numerous family deaths that had occurred over the late summer and fall and they were understanding and very pleasant to deal with. I particularly wish to say how enjoyable it was to work with Zenobia. She is an asset to your company and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend your company to anyone that needed to make an international move.

Excess International has been phenomenal. The contact point I dealt with to handle logistics (scheduling the survey, booking the movers, international customs forms, and updates as my household goods are in transit) was very professional and knowledgeable. The representatives that came to our apartment (for the survey and packing / moving) were pleasant, amiable, and impressively efficient. The survey was less than 30 minutes and was precise (matched the final volume shipped - so no surprises on the final bill vs. quote) and the packers / movers were great. We have a lot of fragile and sentimental items and they took great care in terms of packing and transport. The overall packing and moving took 4 hours for a 2 bedroom apartment. It was very efficient - I originally thought it would've taken the entire day. From the overall experience I have confidence in the capabilities of the company and feel very fortunate to have had them manage my move.

They are very good at selling but once you have chosen to go ahead with their services you will have to chase every piece of information.
They do not understand their insurance product which they are selling to you and after they collected the shipping I was told I cannot cover for Mechanical and Electrical Derrangement.
The sales person was particularly unhelpful and pedantic. They collected my items 10 days ago and I still have outstanding queries in relation to insuring my items.

During my conversations with them I was insulted and cut off every time I tried to explain my concerns.

They are also some of the most expensive on the market.

Considering this was the first time I've ever shipped goods abroad, process was seamless and utterly painless. Deborah in particular provided a perfect mix of patience and professionalism. Thank you so much for the service you provide. Invaluable : )
