Intensive but engaging and effective learning

A big slot of learning compressed into 3 days sounded daunting. But with extensive materials delivered in advance, on line copies and importantly a great tutor with energy and pace; we were engaged and learning despite the long days.

Review of the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Course at Firebrand Training, Netherlands

I attended the 5-day Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course at Firebrand Training in the Netherlands twice, taking advantage of the school's offer to retake the course in case of exam failure. Regrettably, neither session met my expectations.

The course material was presented ineffectively and lacked coherence. Both instructors, including Peter Cox who led the course on my second attendance, seemed unprepared. Peter appeared to have experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies, but his teaching skills were subpar. Interaction with students was minimal, and he failed to address or adequately answer about 80% of the questions posed.

Time management during the course was also poor; the first three days were spent on overly detailed explanations with unnecessary examples, while the last two days rushed through slides in an inappropriate hurry, leaving no time for questions on the most substantial topics.

It is particularly disappointing that despite clear negative feedback from students about the November session last year, no improvements were made before the May session this year. Alarmingly, none of the twelve participants passed the exam after last year's training, despite the school advertising a 75% pass rate after the first 5-day course.

I am profoundly disappointed with my experience at Firebrand Training. I hope my feedback will be considered for future improvements to the course, ensuring better outcomes for future participants.

A mixed bag

The instructors for the residential courses are superb. Their knowledge of their subjects is genuinely extraordinary and their use of humour makes the modules easier to digest and makes the long days on the courses easier to cope with. They make sure they understand our individual job roles and try to pitch the course content, where possible, so it is relevant to our jobs.
The reason I couldn't award more than 3 stars, though, is that in the months between the courses there are simply dozens of hours of videos from a 3rd-party website to watch in an entirely passive process, which is in no way helpful to embedding information in your memory, especially on new concepts which are often abstract and packed with new vocabulary and a sea of acronyms. My workplace has been great in giving me lots of projects to do to increase my skills and awareness of the company's operations as a whole, and my managers make me feel empowered to tackle tasks which affect the whole company.
In summary, the residential training is truly great and the instructors are brilliant; the pre-course learning resources in between are not though, and are truly a joyless and unrewarding slog, but if you get a good company to work for in your apprenticeship, you should be fine.

The Firebrand immersive experience.

The Firebrand immersive experience was enjoyable and effective. The FB trainer Dr Andrews was extremely good and has not just helped me pass the exam but also provided me with the knowledge and confidence to progress to other disciplines and exams. Booked the CISSP exam!! The only complaint is the actual Person test centre which seems it has not been updated since being built. It looks like the exact same from when i took my first exam in 2001. They need to update the test centre and ensure candidates who are sitting long complex, expensive exams are kept separate from those who are taking technical exams which required the tapping of keyboards as opposed to mouse clicks such as the ISC2 exams. Th hotel facilities and availability of meals were not an issue, there was plenty. Thanks for the experience.
