“Legal Scam” that makes it very difficult to cancel the membership

Do not go to this gym, they are scamming their customers in a “legal” way. I asked for a membership for one month and was told that this is absolutely no problem. The way you pay is by giving the gym your IBAN details (they don’t take cash) and their reasoning is that it’s easier as it’s a “standing order” and you can cancel it anytime. I cancelled it right after I made the membership, so that I would have to pay for one month only. Turns out it’s not a standing order but an authorisation to debit. By signing their document on their I-pad you give FIT FOR FREE the entitlement to withdraw their memeberships fee essentially for an unlimited time. It’s a very stupid mistake to do when you are unsuspecting and not knowledgeable about bank transfers. If you do not check your bank statements regularly you will not realise the deductions that are being made and I am sure especially students do not realise this. Their main target customer base seems to be younger adults.

As the process is entire legal it’s essentially impossible to get your money back.
So, I tried to go one step further, as it’s impossible to reach the gym over the phone number shown on google and my emails asking for contact also failed.
I tried to find out which company owns the Fit For Free chain. First google searches showed that it’s owned by a company called “Avedon Capital Partners” , I called their office and was told that they don’t own fit for free. After a few more searches a news article showed that fit for free was bought from Avedon by “Management and Bencis”. Obviously they deliberately try to avoid ways of communication. I then called this firm where someone answered. I explained the situation and asked for a way to contact the gym. They first tried to give me the same phone number listed on google (very helpful?) and then gave me a another number that I haven’t called yet. That number was again a voice Mail telling me to call the phone number listed on google…

I called the Bencis office again and got only excuses and was put on hold for 2 minutes as the person on the other end had to talk to her superior. I was not allowed to talk to her superior but they did take my number and said I will be contacted soon. Which of course will not happen.

I know this review is excessively long but this shows to what length this seemingly legit gym goes to scam people.

I changed my bank account and cards to avoid more charges…

I hope this can be helpful for a few people and the only way to bring attention to this would be through media / press but that’s easier said than done.

All the best and be careful before you sign anything. Ever.

Used to be at Amsterdam HHT - cancelled - poor maintenance

Used to be at Amsterdam HHT - they had 6 months to fix the running machine. Out of about 10 machine...4 are ''ok'' the other 6 machines are either unstable..out of order ...using SELLOTAPE to hold down the emergency stop button. What the hell are mamagement doing? lekker koffie probably. Cancelled my membership - what a shame they let an ''ok'' club run into the ground.

Scammers!!!!!

Assho*** charging me for nothing. And this time 53€ instead of usual 26€. Making it impossible to delet my account. Hate this gym big time, not going back even if it opens after Covid-19.

Using their customers without any consideration

Such a scam. They really do not care about their customers.
Good luck to continue because after covid’19 I definitely stop going to your gym and choose Basic fit. I already spent 100€ for nothing! I have my personal trainer, why do I need to pay for some videos on the app??? At least inform and get in touch with your customers about options that could be provided during this lockdown! And at least, since no workers working, would be a nice idea to install a phone, so that your customers are able to call and ask questions.

They don't cancel subscription

I have been trying to cancel my subscription since October 2020. They ignored my email. I tried again in January. They finally canceled it. I just checked my account and they still charged a small amount of 2,5 euros the month after cancellation. They make it really hard for you to cancel!!!

Impossible to cancel the subscription…

Impossible to cancel the subscription in spite of the fact the club is closed due to corona. They charge me 22 euros for nothing every month. The business is total scam. When everything works again, I will never go to this gym anyway, they should be sued and closed.

Cancellation and payment problems!!

Even 1 star is too much for this company!
Not free but EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE! I subscribed Fit for free on 11 January 2020 and told to the gym staff during my subscription that "I will be moving during the year. So is it okay to unsubscribe anytime I want?". He told me that there will be no problem! I unsubscribed in May due to our moving. However, I learned at that time that despite my unsubscription I HAVE TO continue to pay for the whole year due to my "1 year subsciption". This was not told me when I signed my contract. I made so many calls or wrote emails to see what I've signed because everything was in Dutch However the worst thing is I continued to pay despite the 4-5 months of lockdown and even some extra charges without any explanation. When the gyms were opened I also went there and tried to talk, there was no solution, no explanation to anything!
I always believed in customer rights, human rights, I felt so stupid for believing in a gym staff and just signing that document. Moreover continue to pay more than 24.99 Euros each month for a service that I do not use and despite the lock down.
I really hope that there will be a solution and they will stop doing this to their customers/ to anyone. It is not normal, it is not right! Despite the current lock down, they still make you pay, if you do not pay on time they increase the fee amount without even sending you a reminder email and not saying why you are paying more!!! They also didn't asnwer my email specifically asking this payment and extra charges even during the lockdown!

I have a really bad experience with them never got to this gym again and I do not advise you too. I hade a monthly subscribtion which I wanted to cancel when they were close in the lockdown but they did not want to cancel my subscribtion and they made me pay without going to thy gym

Do not sign any subscription with them.

They are not stopping the subscriptions during thr period they have to stay closed. They found instead a way to borrow money from tgeir customers even if they don't agree with that. THAT IS EXTORTION. They don't answer mails nor the phone, if you block the payment they menace to use a collection company. Real extortion, mafia style.

NEVER GO HERE

this gym is awfull, i paid for the gym for 8 weeks, then i was told i needed to book and when i told them i can not go to the gym because of these bookings. asked for a refund but instead they said to go to a diffrent gym. are they really expecting me to travel over a hour and spend 10 euros a day to get to a gym.

________dutch_______

WORST GYM EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE.

WORST GYM EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE.

They did not process my cancellation request twice and charge me against my permission afterwards. They do not offer phone contact on their customer service and just ignore my emails. Over time they charge 'debt' collection costs while ignoring any attempt of contact for months. After reading other reviews I wonder how this business operates without legal consequences for so long. What options do customers have if fitforfree can not even be contacted?!

I joined for 2 years and when the 2 years ended they signed me up without my permission for another year. I stopped my incasso and now they are trying to collect with threatening emails. I wrote 3 times to cancel and spoke to the gym directly.

I was quite happy with the gym before this but fit for free is just like all the other gyms. They cannot sign me up for a new contract without written permission form me. An automatic renewal in the conditions of the contract is against the laws of the Netherlands.

HQ/back office is unprofessional and...

Dealing w/HQ/back office is unnecessarily unpleasant and counterproductive for sure. Any question or matter will take a long time to get an answer on, it will most likely be a partial or non-answer.
Will not dissolve membership bit will change organization/chain due to the organization behind it.
A shame, because most clubs are fine and convenient to me as for locations.

DONT EVER SIGN A CONTRACT WITH FIT FOR FREE.
I signed a contract for three months. Now they tell me that I ow them money for the months after three months and they hired a collect agency to go after the payment. This is ridiculous. They trick you, lie to you, and find a way to ask for more money. DONT TRUST THEM!

The big disgrace to Fit for Free…

The big disgrace to Fit for Free practices even during such difficult times like we face at this moment. They have just disrespect to the measures, public health or common sense and empathy to their costumers, they pay respect only to their business and the money they can rip the single customer off nevertheless they are aware that they were already prepaid well by all the customers' subscriptions before and during this unexpected crisis period.

Same experience as other people here...

Same experience as other people here. Took a subscription with the possibility to cancel any moment, but when contacting customer service they say it's not possible to cancel and I have to pay everything for a whole year including water that I don't use. They don't understand the wish of people to cancel even though the government clearly said and says "stay inside as much as possible and don't use public transport if you don't need to", but Fit For Free is open so they are not willing to cancel even though you have a right to do so according to their fake promises. I guess they are afraid to become bankrupt if they have to fulfill each open cancellation request. Also, the customer service is horrible and replies like after three weeks and you get a very predictable robotic reply. DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THIS COMPANY.
