They do good research, don't expect miracles

I have signed up with MF two or three times in the past decade, and like others here, I find their recommendations do better than the wider market. From reading other reviews, I note that the worse the review, the shorter time period the reviewer is talking about. If you don't have 3 to 5 years of MF history in your account, then you haven't given it enough of a chance yet. And yeah the ads for additional services are a little annoying/distracting/unclear, but could be worse.

Lack of consistency

Lack of consistency, I often notice contradictory comments from your organization's annalist. Some recommend or make positive evaluations of a stock while others, for the same stock, make negative evaluations. Find the error! I find that this presents a poor image and casts doubt on your recommendations. Some time ago I subscribed to Motley Foll Dividend, but I cancelled it because too often the recommendations were for REITs, not much else to choose from.

My years with Motley Fool

The assortment of Motley fool newsletters is my primary source of investment research. Motley Fool has done very well for me over the years. When I finally figured out I had to hold my investment “forever”, I realized the value of good research of quality companies.
I like the addition of the podcast so I can listen to them while driving.

Motley rocks

I have made significant returns on many motley canada recommendations and still have more that are unsold. Yes I had some losses too but I am way ahead. Jim Gillies rocks it all the time and Ian Butler is awesome as well.

I like the tips and suggestions given…

I like the tips and suggestions given on Stock Advisor. They have been very helpful.

I feel that Motley Fool does too much "money grabbing" though and sends a lot of spam email about their other services, and creates redundant services. Dividend and Hidden Gems should really be a part of Stock Advisor since they are all essentially advising on stocks. But separating them into different packages it makes Motley Fool seem greedy about grabbing subscription money when really, don't they already make enough money off their stock portfolios? It is also a bit offensive and insulting to current subscribers of Stock Advisor to be approached with redundant services.

If it wasn't for this point I would give them 5 stars.

Very pleased with the Motley Fool…

Very pleased with the Motley Fool services. I still use a personal broker too, but have used some of the advice I get from the MF newsletters. Their analysis is not too deep, but they provide enough to guide me to new stocks to consider. Their track record of results is solid, which is the most important measure for a stock advisory service.

I am generally happy with the Motley…

I am generally happy with the Motley Fools Stock Advisor .My only true criticsm is too often they recommend the same stocks over and over ,surely there are others that could be recommended to give more variety. I have a small portfolio and it does seem I get more from watching the the best buys now over the actual recommended stocks. These have proven to be invaluable as they are more often more profitable to me and far less costly for the initial buy in as I'm old school and like to buy in lots of 100 shares or more and keep a smaller overall number of stocks. That being said I have done very well with they're help in the last few years compared to my mutual bank managed funds. Beating their returns by a easy 100% plus per month.

Excellent source of both education and investments

The Fool is an excellent source of both education and recommendation for investors. I subscribe to both the Canadian and the US based services (Fool.com). However, you need to listen and agree with their overall premise that they are investors not traders. They are serious that their advise assumes a 3 - 5 year holding period. The recommend businesses not stocks.

Very Satisfied with the Service Provided

I have been a member of various services, including Stock Advisor Canada, Hidden Gems and Dividend Investor Canada, for a number of years. I have been very satisfied with the level of information that I have received during that time, which has helped me learn about new companies and become a better investor. The lead analysts are very knowledgeable and they help make investing interesting and enjoyable. The value received from the different services is excellent.

The main purpose of my subscription…

The main purpose of my subscription with Motley is to have access to a team of advisers to better control my investments. At first, I was hesitant to join Motley Fool but over the past 4-5 years I have grown to appreciate each member/adviser.
Currently, my portfolio is down as most investments have been lately. Selling half of my investments at a near peak would have been a good strategy.
The subscription fee is reasonable when purchasing at a discount price, however, not so good when paying full price given the amount of money currently in my portfolio.
The bottom line, I enjoy following the Motley team!

Overall I'm happy with the service

Overall I'm happy with the service. The subscription price is very reasonable and I have made a decent return based on Motley's recommendations. The thing I don't like is being bombarded with a new service almost on a monthly basis. I have actually subscribed to many of them as at times they represent sectors that I'm interested in. However, there are many overlapping in recommendations among these services and there was this one time that I found I already own all but one of the stock being recommended in a newly subscribed service. Also because of these many subscriptions, the number of stock that I owned and the number of reviews/recommendations are so overwhelming that it almost become a full time job (I'm a retired person). So I stopped reading emails from Motely touting new services. And I also decided that when my current subscriptions expire, I will just stay with the three basic services, Stock Advisor, Dividend Investor and Hidden Gems, and may be one or two extra, maximum.

Excellent buying advice

Excellent buying advice, not so good on the selling side. I have had several multi bangers (Paycom, Shopify, Acuity Ads, Fulgent, NVIDIA) but for the most part, missed selling on the peaks.
One quibble I have is that I often have difficulty separating the paid advice from the teasers and then when I try to find the teaser tip on the service that I have paid for and to which the tease belongs, I can't find it. I will continue with Stock Advisor and will pick up Hidden Gems next year.

Timely updates would be helpful

MF provides some great annual and monthly recommendations. The lack of timely updates when things go wrong for stocks is a concern. It's also very frustrating to constantly see teaser Ads about "the great new stock that doesn't seem to have revealed to current users. Also, the additional services like SaaS provide even less updates, and my experience with both I've tried has been dismal.

Fool-On

I first joined the Motley Fool U.S. services in 1999, which I continued until about 2018.
I joined MF Canada in about 2015 and have tried several of their services. The one I would recommend in Canada is the Stock Advisor service, it's the best value.
Overall, I am happy with the experience. If you take the time to read up on their investing philosophy you'll understand that this is not another get-rich scheme.
Through recommendations made by the fool (U.S & Can), living within my means, and engaging the fool community, I have been able to create enough wealth to retire at 50. You'll notice it took just over 20 years, so don't expect to buy in and be rich next month!
All that said, know what you want out of investing, have a realistic goal, take your time and don't panic when there is a market crash! Also, choose your fool service carefully based on what you want. I'd recommend Stock Advisor for any newbie investor.
Also, make sure to adjust your email preferences, or else they will spam you to death trying to sell you more services, but hey, it's a business they're running.

A reliable guide for Buy-and-Hold investing.

I have subscribed to Stock Advisor and Motley Fool Canada for several years. I use their advice as a source for new investment ideas and as a cross-check on my other research. Motley Fool is the most useful and reliable investing guide that I have found.
