Very disappointing experience as a customer.
I write this reluctantly, as I've been a customer who had always thought Footman James offered a good service, but having cancelled my Classic car policy over three weeks ago, having sold my car, I've now made four calls to try to obtain my due refund, and even after three weeks and four frustrating calls I'm still no further forward. No one seems to take responsibility or ownership for any concerns and the default answer is 'call back in a few days'. Footman James, you have to do better than this if you want to retain customers. I expected better and I'm bitterly disappointed by the service I've received.
A good old-fashioned human service like it should be...
Phoned to make an amendment to my policy. Call was picked up within seconds of inputting keypad options. The agent who handled my query did so quickly and professionally - was very knowledgeable, too! Excellent service and not a chatbot in sight!
A Footman James customer for over 30 years
I have been a footman James customer for over 30 years and have held numerous polices with them simultaneously. They were streets ahead of the rest with great prices and excellent customer service!
Sadly this is no longer the case!
Over the last couple of years I have gone elsewhere with almost all of my policies, due to rising costs and more importantly the incredibly rude number of staff I have had the misfortune to speak with, no attempt to even disguise their disinterest and clear contempt for anyone that dares to interrupt their, gaming or chatting on line with friends.
I attempted to renew my last policy with them yesterday and yet again a disintrested rude individual.
Well no more.
I will not be renewing my policy, I have in fact set up a policy with another insurer and paid a little less which is nice and obviously the privilege of never having to speak to a Footman James "Customer Service " employee again.

Sent me a renewal quote 60% up on prior year. No explanation. When I questioned it they reduced it but still massive increase on 2024. Went to another broker, they came back bang on my 2024 premium without me telling them that number.
Not a good initial experience.
I can only offer a review after I declined an online quotation that I received which was three times higher than the lowest quote from an alternative broker. After well over 50 years on the road and wanting to insure one 60 year old classic motorcycle with no claims I was pretty disappointed by FJ's quotation. I cannot in all honesty recommend them.

Been with them for 14 years with 2 classic vehicle. Decided this year that a non fault claim and a fault claim the previous year that wasn’t even on this insurance policy was an issue and reclined to renew the policy. I know that one of my vehicles they will not insurance anyway now so very convenient this has happened this year!! Company is a joke and I’m hoping the classic car clubs who are officiated with them see through this company and drop them.

I’ve been an FJ customer for several years and in my opinion they provide very good classic bike cover at a reasonable price. The renewal letter and documents were well presented; easy process throughout. I especially like being able to speak to someone in the UK about the policy and to pay over the phone.

I insured my classic cars with FJ for over ten years. The huge hike in my last premium from £622 for three cars to £803 seems unreasonable

Price increase with no explanation at all for my multi-bike policy, looking at the reviews the company like to draw you in and then ramp the prices up as fast as possible for no reason.
Will be looking elsewhere in future.

My policy on a scooter that is stored was increased from £268 to £408 no reason given. They sent me a renewal with no indication of cost. No wonder. Makes you wonder how many people just renewed without asking. I shan’t be!
From the reviews on trust pilot they must be losing customers hand over fist.

Quality of call handling and prices uncompetitive
I would not normally leave a developmental review but based on two calls on two different days, responding to FJ's email invitation to renew, I found myself looking elsewhere. The renewal price did not seem good value. I wanted to remove the 'drive to work' element and have a quote for just the core product renewal, ready for me to proceed with or not on-line nearer to the renewal date. Whilst the call handlers were polite and considerate the first time I called I was put through on a lengthy hold, and ultimately there was a no one to pick up the call. The following day, after a briefer hold I was put through to someone who could provide the quote but could not provide the new arrangement without me needing to call back at the time of renewal. I found the length of time waiting on the calls, the expertise of the call handlers and the price of the product uncompetitive and so I have not proceeded to renew.

2025 Policy change. Hugely disappointed
I have been with Footman James Classic Car insurance for over 5 years and have always been satisfied with my policy. However this month, when I called up to renew, they informed me that they will no longer insure my car unless it is parked on a private road or in a private garage overnight. In central London where a garage lease costs almost the same as renting a flat ????
Absolutely shocking. They inform me that these are the new conditions stated by their underwriters AGEAS and that they are considering to forming a different partnership with another insurer. I'm not surprised! Nevertheless I am hugely disappointed at how they have dealt with the change. No email, no explanation via email.... Absolutely terrible customer service.
Looking on Trust Pilot I see that I am not alone. They will be losing a huge amount of loyal customers to their competitors, including me, and at a huge inconvenience.
